The increasing processing demands of information technology (IT) workloads cause the booming of data centers (DCs) in recent years. The servers in the DC emit much heat when processing the IT workloads and thus the DC temperature rises. The power consumption when controlling the DC temperature using the air conditioning (A/C) of the DC is high, which leads to expensive power bills. To reduce the power cost, using renewable energy (RE) to power DC has raised much attention in recent years. However, the intermittency of RE and the uncertainties of outside temperature pose operational challenges. Therefore, in this paper, a data-driven statistical-feasibility-based robust rolling optimization framework for the operation of hydrogen-DC microgrid (H2-DCMG) is proposed to control the DC temperature considering these uncertainties and the intermittency of RE. In the framework, the hydrogen energy storage system (HESS) is introduced to deal with the intermittency of RE, and robust optimization (RO) is adopted to deal with the uncertainty of outside temperature. The statistical feasibility is introduced into the framework to decrease the conservatism of RO, through relaxing the DC temperature constraints without harming normal DC operations. Moreover, we propose the Statistical-Guarantee-based Vertex Link (SGVL) algorithm to construct a polyhedron uncertain set of outside temperatures that can ensure the results of dispatch are economical and satisfy statistical feasibility. The constructed polyhedron uncertain set is linear, which reduces computational complexity in solving. A case study based on the real-world temperature dataset verifies the superiority of the SGVL algorithm on the aspect of the economic cost. It further validates the effectiveness of the proposed robust optimization framework for DC temperature control. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Retinal vessel segmentation is important for the diagnosis of many diseases. The segmentation of microscopic vessels is one of the challenges because of the complex structure of retinal vessels, which makes it challenging to tell the vessels apart from the background. In order to improve the segmentation performance of retinal vessels, we use the edge detection method of HED to optimize the segmentation effect of UNet. Using Hybrid Dilated Convolution not only increases the perceptual field, but also avoids the loss of information continuity caused by the continuous use of dilated convolution. The Pyramid Pooling Module is used at the end of the encoder to compensate for the information loss caused by downsampling. Finally, the output of edge detection and image segmentation is combined as the final result. The model is evaluated in two mainstream datasets DRIVE and CHASE-DB1, and the experimental results show that the proposed model can improve the performance of retinal vessel segmentation. © 2022 IEEE.

Optimal control in Both Steady State and Transient Process with Unknown Disturbances

The scheme of online optimization as a feedback controller is widely used to steer the states of a physical system to the optimal solution of a predefined optimization problem. Such methods focus on regulating the physical states to the optimal solution in the steady state, without considering the performance during the transient process. In this paper, we simultaneously consider the performance in both the steady state and the transient process of a linear time-invariant system with unknown disturbances. The performance of the transient process is illustrated by the concept of overtaking optimality. An overtaking optimal controller with known disturbances is derived to achieve the transient overtaking optimality while guaranteeing steady-state performance. Then, we propose a disturbance independent near-optimal controller, which can achieve optimal steady-state performance and approach the overtaking optimal performance in the transient process. The system performance gap between the overtaking optimal controller and the proposed controller proves to be inversely proportional to the control gains. A case study on a power system with four buses is used to validate the effectiveness of the two controllers. © 2024, CC BY.

Nowadays, image recognition plays a pivotal role in acquiring data via sensors. However, the adaptability of traditional algorithms is hindered by the unpredictable nature of open environments, varying sensor quality, and image dimensions. Challenges arise in adverse conditions like inclement weather, low light, and optical distortions. Retinex-based methods have emerged as a viable solution, effectively enhancing images plagued by shadows or poor lighting. Yet, issues surface when images possess saturated colors;the conventional multi-scale Retinex with color restoration risks color inversion. Moreover, during gain compensation, extreme histogram values occupy significant gray level space, obscuring vital image details. This study delves into these challenges and proposes an enhanced multi-scale Retinex algorithm. Our approach substitutes logarithmic functions with tansig functions, eliminating color inversion risks. Additionally, a novel gain compensation method, integrating histogram stretching with Gamma correction, refines image clarity. The algorithm's robustness is evidenced in diverse scenarios, including adverse weather, low light, underwater imaging, and non-uniform lighting. Experimental results validate our method's superiority, surpassing other Retinex-based techniques both qualitatively and quantitatively. This research contributes valuable insights into image enhancement methodologies, fostering advancements in sensor-based data gathering in Smart Spaces. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Assessing the safety status of an engine is critical to the stable operation of electromechanical equipment. The belief rule base (BRB) model enables the integration of expert knowledge to assess the engine safety status, reduce the risk of accidents, and minimize major losses. However, when too many attributes are involved, the rapid growth in the number of rules not only increases the computational cost but also affects the model performance. For this reason, this study proposes a unique interval hierarchical BRB (IH-BRB) modeling approach for engine safety state assessment. The first layer utilizes the interval structure BRB as a classifier, effectively addressing the issue of exploding rule combinations. The second layer classifier employs multiple auxiliary BRBs to transform the multi-classification problem into a binary classification problem for each auxiliary BRB. This approach resolves the challenge of accurately evaluating interval BRB when data similarity is low. To complete the final safety state assessment, interpretability constraints are incorporated into the optimization process. This ensures that the optimized parameters align with expert knowledge and the actual situation. The efficacy of the model in engine safety state assessment is validated using the WD615 engine dataset. Comparison trials and experiments on other datasets further illustrate the advantages of the model in terms of assessment accuracy and interpretability.

Fire is a serious disaster that endangers life and property worldwide. Accurate and prompt fire detection can provide early warning information for firefighting efforts. Deep learning-based object detection algorithms have proven to be useful in the field of fire detection. However, fire detection is a particularly challenging task, due to the low-resolution of fire images and the presence of blurring and deformation in the targets. Existing fire detection methods are limited by poor detection accuracy and slow speed in complex fire scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose a fire detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv5s. Firstly, the attention module is embedded into the network structure. We introduce this attention module into the last layer of the backbone to enhance feature extraction ability. Secondly, we modify the Neck structure to fully fuse different feature maps. Through fusing extra low-level features from the backbone, it utilizes various receptive fields to enhance the expression of feature. Thirdly, SIoU is introduced to achieve faster convergence during the training. SIoU take into account the direction of the mismatch to redefine penalty indicators. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms commonly used models. Even compared to specific fire detectors, our model exhibits certain advantages. © 2023 IEEE.

Anomaly detection has been widely explored by training an out-of-distribution detector with only normal data. Medical image analysis, as a common tool, faces the challenge of how to further enhance the detection performance for thyroid cancer, especially with the application of various deep learning methods in the thyroid-related field. In this paper, we validate the effectiveness of sonographic feature descriptions (textual information) for thyroid cancer diagnosis. Building on this, we propose a simple multimodal self-supervised framework that leverages both textual and image modalities for thyroid cancer anomaly detection. Results on a private dataset demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed method compared to advanced methods. © 2024 IEEE.
