Graph signal processing (GSP) has emerged as a powerful framework for analyzing data on irregular domains. In recent years, many classical techniques in signal processing (SP) have been successfully extended to GSP. Among them, chirp signals play a crucial role in various SP applications. However, graph chirp signals have not been formally defined despite their importance. Here, we define graph chirp signals and establish a comprehensive theoretical framework for their analysis. We propose the graph fractional vertex-frequency energy distribution (GFED), which provides a powerful tool for processing and analyzing graph chirp signals. We introduce the general fractional graph distribution (GFGD), a generalized vertex-frequency distribution, and the reduced interference GFED, which can suppress cross-term interference and enhance signal clarity. Furthermore, we propose a novel method for detecting graph signals through GFED domain filtering, facilitating robust detection and analysis of graph chirp signals in noisy environments. Moreover, this method can be applied to real-world data for denoising more effective than some state-of-the-arts, further demonstrating its practical significance. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Trajectory determination is critical for autonomous operations in geostationary Orbit (geo). However, the existing methods cannot satisfy the need for stability and accuracy in short-cycle scenarios. Since the emerging method based on the Ka-band Inter-Satellite Link (ISL) of the Beidou satellite navigation system medium Earth orbit constellation has the advantages of high accuracy and anti-interference, this paper applies it to the autonomous operations of geo satellites and analyzes the feasibility and link characteristics. Different from previous ISL-related studies about long-term orbit determination, there is an issue of periodic failure of priori orbital data caused by frequent maneuvers in short-cycle autonomous operations for ISL-based applications. In this paper, by fusing the priori clock bias information and multiple ISL observation data under the constraint of a sub-hour period, we propose an ISL-based fractional steps filtering method containing rapid contraction and precise tracking, assisted by an optimized satellite selection strategy, to address the issue above. The result indicates that thanks to an average number of 12.16 visible navigation satellites for geo users, the proposed method with dispersed and diversified satellite selection scheme gives excellent results, with convergence to sub-meter accuracy in 10 min on average that satisfies the constraint of a sub-hour period and shows a 41.1 % improvement in average convergence time efficiency compared to the traditional method. Moreover, regarding trajectory determination accuracy in short-cycle autonomous operations, the root-mean-square error achieves about 0.38 m, which is better than the result of existing applications of about 10–20 m precision, demonstrating the advantages of the proposed method. © 2025 Elsevier Masson SAS

Dynamic data packing towards the optimization of QoC and QoS in networked control systems

A class of networked control systems is investigated whose communication network is shared with other applications. The design objective for such a system setting is not only the optimization of the control performance but also the efficient utilization of the communication resources. We observe that at a large time scale the data packet delay in the communication network is roughly varying piecewise constant, which is typically true for data networks like the Internet. Based on this observation, a dynamic data packing scheme is proposed within the recently developed packet-based control framework for networked control systems. As expected this proposed approach achieves a fine balance between the control performance and the communication utilization: the similar control performance can be obtained at dramatically reduced cost of the communication resources. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A general law of human mobility

The intrinsic factors that drive human mobility have remained unclear for decades. Our observations from both intra-urban and inter-urban trips demonstrate a general law of human mobility. Specifically, the probability that a trip will occur is inversely proportional to the size of population located inside a circle with radius equal to the travel distance centered at the trip origin. A simple parameterless rank-based model is presented; this model can predict human flows with a convincing fidelity. Moreover, existing models can be implemented as special cases of our model, suggesting that our model is stable at more spatial scales. Our model also creates a fundamental bridge between individual mobility and social relationships.

With the rapid development of RFID technologies,RFID has been introduced into applications such as supply chain management,inventory control,sampling inspection,3-D positioning and object ***,the reader accesses all the tags in its interrogation region while some applications may only need to identify the tags in a specified area which is smaller than the reader's interrogation *** paper concerns the essential problem of estimating cardinality of tags in the specified *** key novelty of our solution builds on an estimation synopsis that can capture key counting information by moving the reader as well as a simple *** the help of this data structure,a BS can be obtained which only contains the target *** computing the number of 1 in the BS,we can easily get cardinality |E| of the tags in the specified *** conduct extensive experiments to examine this design and the results shows that our solution achieves high *** it not requires any modification of tags and can be implemented with only one reader and some passive RFID tags,the proposed method is easy to deploy in a practical system.

Intertidal area classification with generalized extreme value distribution and Markov random field in quad-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar imagery

Classification of intertidal area in synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images is an important yet challenging issue when considering the complicatedly and dramatically changing features of tidal fluctuation. The difficulty of intertidal area classification is compounded because a high proportion of this area is frequently flooded by water, making statistical modeling methods with spatial contextual information often ineffective. Because polarimetric entropy and anisotropy play significant roles in characterizing intertidal areas, in this paper we propose a novel unsupervised contextual classification algorithm. The key point of the method is to combine the generalized extreme value(GEV) statistical model of the polarization features and the Markov random field(MRF) for contextual smoothing. A goodness-of-fit test is added to determine the significance of the components of the statistical model. The final classification results are obtained by effectively combining the results of polarimetric entropy and anisotropy. Experimental results of the polarimetric data obtained by the Chinese Gaofen-3 SAR satellite demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed classification algorithm.

Motion compensation is an indispensable step for generating a high quality image in the airbore SAR system. In bistatic SAR, there are two separate platforms and their velocities cannot keep same all the time. So the echoes are transmitted and received at uniform positions, respectively, which deteriorate the imaging results. In this paper, an azimuth resample method for compensating the velocity variance along the flying direction is promoted, and the difference of azimuth resample between mono static SAR and bistatic SAR is pointed out. This paper devotes to combine the chirp basis function transformation and symplectic coordinates transformation to yield a novel Wigner distribution (WD) associated with the linear canonical transform (LCT), named as the symplectic WD in the LCT domain (SWDL). It incorporates the merits of the symplectic WD (SWD) and the WD in the LCT domain (WDL), achieving stronger capability in the linear frequency-modulated (LFM) signal frequency rate feature extraction while maintaining the same level of computational complexity. Some essential properties of the SWDL are derived, including marginal distributions, energy conservations, unique reconstruction, Moyal formula, complex conjugate symmetry, time reversal symmetry, scaling property, time translation property, frequency modulation property, and time translation and frequency modulation property. Heisenberg’s uncertainty principles of the SWDL are formulated, giving rise to three kinds of lower bounds attainable respectively by Gaussian enveloped complex exponential signal, Gaussian signal and Gaussian enveloped chirp signal. The optimal symplectic matrices corresponding to the highest time-frequency resolution are generated by solving the lower bound optimization (minimization) problem. The time-frequency resolution of the SWDL is compared with those of the SWD and WDL to demonstrate its superiority in LFM signals time-frequency energy concentration. A synthesis example is also carried out to verify the feasibility and reliability of the theoretical analysis. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The massive or large scaled multiple input multiple output(MIMO) systems have gained huge consideration due to high achievable data rates, reliable system performance and advantaged energy efficiency for future wireless networks. For such systems, we should have a keen knowledge of the channel model, the ways of configuration, spectral efficiency and so on. The obtaining of the far-field pattern in the massive MIMO system from measurements made in the near-field has attracted widespread attention recently. In this article, two basic techniques for accomplishing this have been proposed. In the first technique, the NTFF(near-field to far-field) transformation is based on the equivalence principle. While in the second technique, it is based on the plane wave spectrum(PWS) expansion. Both of the methods have their own advantages for the massive MIMO systems. One can drastically reduce the computation time and the other can make enormous reduction in the storage consumption. Experimental results show that the two transformation techniques are proved to be feasible and they are consistent with each other.

When browsing through photographs taken during a trip, it can be a distressing discovery to find many other bystanders captured within the frame. A visually compelling snapshot preserves the desired subject in the foreground, and eliminates irrelevant persons or objects. In this paper, we present a new image completion algorithm that retains the geometric consistency of the scene using Internet photo collections. Our key insight allows us to successfully fill the missing regions with content derived from related images with distinct features, or from visible parts of the input image with repetitive textures. The final composition for the missing regions is guided by a confidence map combining the two types of example images. We validate our algorithm on a variety of scenes which are challenging for state-of-the-art completion techniques. The completion results successfully preserve the geometry consistency for complex structures in a wide range of depths. © The Eurographics Association 2014.
