The increasing stringency of standards has highlighted challenges in high-standard wastewater treatment and water reuse. Current water quality assessment primarily relies on bulk properties like chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD), which fail to capture the intricate characteristics of wastewater contaminants. The novel concept of "feature of water", a multidimensional assessment system encompassing four primary indicators: quantitative concentration, compositional characteristics, transformation potential, and toxicological effects, is applied in the study. Unlike conventional linear approaches, feature of water provides a holistic perspective on wastewater composition, examining pollutant variations across temporal and spatial dimensions. Applications of the feature of water concept include the identification of refractory pollutants, evaluation of treatment processes, and the design of tailored treatment technologies. Case studies demonstrate its effectiveness in improving water treatment efficiency, reducing operational costs, and mitigating ecological risks. By transitioning from traditional linear water quality evaluation to a systems-based approach, the feature of water provides a robust methodology to meet the demands of high-standard wastewater treatment and water reuse, ensuring environmental sustainability and public health protection. © 2025 The Authors

A Real-time Approach for Multi-physics Field Reconstruction of Active Phased Array Antenna

This study proposes an effective approach to reconstruct the multi-physics field of the active phased array antenna (APAA) through limited information of temperature and strain. First, the multi-physics coupling model of the APAA is constructed to analyze the thermal-mechanical-electromagnetic responses;the model calculation accuracy is verified by experimental testing. Then, a large number of samples containing the temperature and deformation information are generated through the coupling model. Subsequently, the multi-physics field reconstruction model is established based on the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) method, in which the parallelization computing is implemented to fully improve the prediction efficiency. Lastly, the testing samples are used to evaluate the performance of the reconstruction model. The obtained results indicate that the developed model is able to reconstruct the multi-physics field of the APAA in real time more precisely through comparing with existing machine learning methods. This approach can provide reliable temperature and displacement reconstruction information for the compensation of the APAA electromagnetic performance. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)are an attractive battery system because of similar characteristics to lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)and large Na element ***,exploring stable,high-capacity and high-rate anode materials for SIBs is still challenging ***,diethylenetriamine(DETA)molecular template derived ultrathin N-doped carbon(NC)layer decorated CoSe_(2)nanobelts(CoSe_(2)/NC)are prepared by solvothermal reaction followed by calcination *** CoSe_(2)/NC exhibits large potential as an anode for *** and theoretical calculations reveal that the in situ formed conductive ultrathin NC layer can not only relieve the volume change of CoSe_(2)but also accelerate electron and ion *** addition,the nanobelt structure of CoSe_(2)/NC with abundant exposed active sites can obviously accelerate the electrochemical *** the synergistic effect of special nanobelt structure and NC layer,the rate as well as cycling performances of CoSe_(2)/NC are obviously improved.A superior capacity retention of 94.8%is achieved at 2 A·g^(-1)after 2000 *** using Na3V2(PO4)3 cathodes,the pouch full batteries can work steadily at 0.5 C,verifying the application ***_(2)/NC anodes also exhibit impressive performances in LIBs and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).

Recent advances in cathodes for all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries have been regarded as the candidate for the next-generation energy storage system due to the high theoretical specific capacity(1675 m Ah/g), energy density(2600 Wh/kg)and the abundance of elemental sulfur, but the application of Li-S batteries is impeded by a series of problems. Recently, all-solid-state Li-S batteries(ASSLSBs) have drawn great attention because many drawbacks such as safety issues caused by metallic lithium anodes and organic liquid electrolytes can be overcome through the use of solid-state electrolytes(SEs). However, not only the problems brought by sulfur cathodes still exist, but more trouble arouses from the interfaces between SEs and cathodes, hampering the practical application of ASSLSBs. Therefore, in order to deal with the problems, enormous endeavors have been done on ASSLSB cathodes during the past few decades, including engineering of cathode active materials, cathode host materials, cathode binder materials and cathode structures. In this review, the electrochemical mechanism and existing problems of ASSLSBs are briefly introduced. Subsequently, the strategies for developing cathode materials and designing cathode structures are presented. Then there follows a brief discussion of SE problems and expectations, and finally, the challenges and perspectives of ASSLSBs are summarized.

Internal solitary waves in the Shenhu continental shelf slope break zone of the northern South China Sea generate benthic storms

Internal solitary waves can generate intense bottom currents and turbulent mixing over continental slopes, influencing the redistribution of sediments and pollutants, as well as driving changes in marine geomorphology and ecosystems. However,owing to the lack of detailed quantitative measurements of the bottom boundary layer, the mechanisms and impacts of internal solitary waves in resuspending and transporting seafloor sediments remain poorly understood. In this study, we present highresolution in situ observations of hydrodynamics in the upper layer(14–265 m) and the bottom boundary layer(<1 m) in the continental shelf slope break zone. Our results reveal that strongly nonlinear internal solitary waves, which occur at the peak of semidiurnal tidal currents, trigger benthic storms at the seafloor. Unlike previously proposed global instability mechanisms, the suspended sediment concentration caused by these strongly nonlinear internal solitary waves reaches 60 times higher than the background value and exhibits sudden, transient peaks. The bottom shear stress(τ) is an order of magnitude greater than that in laboratory measurements, and the observed fluctuating pressure is approximately 2.3 to 7 times greater than that in previous coastal observations. The sediments stirred by benthic storms are transported vertically to more than 100 m above the seabed,with lateral transport extending tens of kilometres beyond the study area. This process is driven by the dynamic mechanism of“strongly nonlinear internal solitary waves lifting sediments, weakly nonlinear internal solitary waves assisted by internal tides,and contour currents transporting sediments.” The suspended sediment flux induced by internal solitary waves in the South China Sea is on the same order of magnitude as that of global dust storm emissions, 21.9 times the volume of Asian dust storms entering the sea, and approximately 21 times the fluvial sediment flux entering the northern South China Sea. Forming limit and failure behavior of fiber metal laminates under low-constraint conditions

Fiber Metal Laminates(FMLs),as high-performance composite materials,demonstrate exceptional potential in a wide range of applications,such as aeronautical and astronautical ***,the traditional cured FMLs possess complex interlayer stresses and low forming limits,restricting further promotion and application of ***-constraint FMLs exhibit a lower forming resistance and better formability due to no curing during the forming process;however,the formation mechanism and response are not *** paper presents the Forming Limit Diagram(FLD)of low-constraint GLARE(glass fiber reinforced aluminum laminates)based on the forming limit test,and compares it with the conventionally cured laminates to evaluate the differences in the forming *** addition,combined with the analysis of failure mechanism and micro-deformation mechanism of specimens,the influence of different temperatures(20–80℃)and forming states(width)on the deformation performance of laminates is further *** results reveal that the forming limit curve of low-constraint laminates shifts up with the increase of temperature,the forming limit initially increases with the increase of width,then followed by a gradual decrease,and the maximum principal strain of low-constraint laminates is increased by 29% at 80℃ compared to 20℃.The cured laminate has a principal strain range of 0–0.02,while the low-constraint laminates have a principal strain range of 0.03–*** with cured laminates,low-constraint laminates possess a higher forming limit due to the improvement in deformable degree between layers by resin flow and fiber slippage,which enhances their *** study is expected to serve as a reference for establishing forming limit criteria and optimizing forming schemes for low-constraint laminates.

Insight into the bimetallic structure sensibility of catalytic nitrate reduction over Pd-Cu nanocrystals

Catalytic reduction of nitrate over bimetallic catalysts has emerged as a technology for sustainable treatment of nitrate-containing ***,the structure of bimetallic has been much less investigated for catalyst ***,two main types of Pd-Cu bimetallic nanocrystal structures,heterostructure and intermetallic,were prepared and characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The results show that two individual Pd and Cu nanocrystals with a mixed interface exist in the heterostructure nanocrystals,while Pd and Cu atoms are uniformly distributed across the intermetallic Pd-Cu *** catalytic nitrate reduction experiments were carried out in a semibatch reactor under constant hydrogen *** nitrate conversion rate of the heterostructure Pd-Cu nanocrystals supported onα-Al_(2)O_(3),γ-Al_(2)O_(3),SBA-15,and XC-72R exhibited 3.82-,6.76-,4.28-,2.44-fold enhancements relative to the intermetallic nanocrystals,and the nitrogen and nitrite were the main products for the heterostructure and intermetallic Pd-Cu nanocrystals,*** indicates that the catalytic nitrate reduction over Pd-Cu catalyst is sensitive to the bimetallic structures of the catalysts,and heterostructure bimetallic nanocrystals exhibit better catalytic performances on both the activity and selectivity,which may provide new insights into the design and optimization of catalysts to improve catalytic activity and selectivity for nitrate reduction in water.

Impact factors and pathways of halonitromethanes formation from aspartic acid during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection

Light emitting diode (LED-UV)/chlorine disinfection can replace UV/chlorine disinfection in wastewater treatment plants and water supply plants. Halonitromethanes (HNMs) are a class of novel nitrogenous disinfection by-products, which are characterized by higher cytotoxicity and genotoxicity than regulated disinfection by-products. Herein, the impact factors and pathways of HNMs formation from aspartic acid (ASP) were investigated during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. The results showed that three types of chlorinated-HNMs (Cl-HNMs) were found during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection, and their concentrations increased first and then declined as the reaction progressed. Cl-HNMs yields increased with increasing LED-UV_(265) intensity, free chlorine dosage, and ASP concentration, which declined with increasing pH (6.0–8.0). Meantime, the important impact of the coexisting ions contained in water matrices on HNMs formation from ASP was observed during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. It was found that copper ions (Cu^(2+)) promoted Cl-HNMs formation. Furthermore, when bromide (Br–) appeared during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection, nine types of HNMs were detected simultaneously. Moreover, Br– not only converted Cl-HNMs toward brominated (chlorinated)-HNMs and brominated-HNMs but also showed a marked effect on HNMs concentrations and species. Subsequently, the possible pathways of HNMs formation from ASP were proposed during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. At last, it was proved that the formation trends of HNMs obtained in the real waters were similar to those in simulated waters. This work elaborated on the influence factors and pathways of HNMs formation, which is conducive to controlling the HNMs produced during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection.
