Distribution and bioavailability of mercury in size-fractioned atmospheric particles around an ultra-low emission power plant in Southwest China

Ultra-low emission(ULE)technology retrofits significantly impact the particulate-bound mercury(Hg)emissions from coal-fired power plants(CFPPs);however,the distribution and bioavailability of Hg in size-fractioned particulate matter(PM)around the ULE-retrofitted CF-PPs are less ***,total Hg and its chemical speciation in TSP(total suspended particles),PM_(10)(aerodynamic particle diameter≤10μm)and PM_(2.5)(aerodynamic particle diameter≤2.5μm)around a ULE-retrofitted CFPP in Guizhou Province were *** PM_(2.5)concentration was higher around this ULE-retrofitted CFPP than that in the intra-regional urban cities,and it had higher mass Hg concentration than other sizefractioned *** Hg concentrations in PM had multifarious sources including CFPP,vehicle exhaust and biomass combustion,while they were significantly higher in autumn and winter than those in other seasons(P<0.05).Regardless of particulate size,atmospheric PM-bound Hg had lower residual fractions(<21%)while higher HCl-soluble fractions(>40%).Mass concentrations of exchangeable,HCl-soluble,elemental,and residual Hg in PM_(2.5)were higher than those in other size-fractioned PM,and were markedly elevated in autumn and winter(P<0.05).In PM_(2.5),HCl-soluble Hg presented a significantly positive relationship with elemental Hg(P<0.05),while residual Hg showed the significantly positive relationships with HCl-soluble Hg and elemental Hg(P<0.01).Overall,these results suggested that atmospheric PM-bound Hg around the ULE-retrofitted CFPP tends to accumulate in finer PM,and has higher bioavailable fractions,while has potential transformation between chemical speciation.

In this study,samples were taken from three locations,upstream to downstream,along the central route project of the China South to North Water Diversion(SNWD)scheme in summer and *** were used to reveal the variations of dissolved organic matter(DOM)during the water transfer process,and the effects of these variations on drinking water treatment and disinfection by-products formation potential(DBPs-FP).The results showed that polysaccharides accumulate in summer and reduce in winter with flow distance,which has an important effect on the overall properties of DOM,as well as on the performance of coagulation,ultrafiltration,and the formation of *** substances,and their hydrophilic content,also increased in summer and decreased in winter with flow *** contrast,the concentration of small organic substances(MW≤1000 Da)increased in both summer and winter with flow distance,which affected both nanofiltration(NF)membrane fouling and *** results provide a useful case study of spatial and temporal changes in raw water DOM during long distance water transfer and their impact on the treatment and quality of drinking water from the SNWD.

The substantial amount of greenhouse gas emissions from anthropogenic activities has caused the global mean surface temperature to increase by 0.99℃since the industrial revolution[1].China is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 in response to climate change[2].Soil stores approximately 2344–3000 Pg(1015 g)of carbon at depths of 0–100 cm in terrestrial ecosystems,an amount approximately equivalent to twice the amount in the atmospheric carbon pool and three times that in the terrestrial biomass;therefore,even a small change in soil carbon stocks will exert significant impacts on atmospheric CO_(2)concentrations[3].

Design and numerical analysis of serpentine microchannel integrated with inner-wall ridges for enhanced droplet mixing

A numerical model is developed for three-dimensional droplet mixing in serpentine microchannels with inner-wall ridges(referred to as SMR microchannels).The underlying mechanisms of mixing in SMR microchannels are revealed,and the effects of the ridge width and ridge number on mixing inside droplets of different sizes are *** results indicate that SMR microchannels are capable of enhancing the mixing efficiency by 3.6%–12.5%compared with that in smooth serpentine microchannels,particularly when the droplet length is larger than the microchannel width and the width ratio of the ridge to the microchannel is 0.25–*** above mixing enhancement is determined by two main factors:the combined effects of the vortex pair and reverse flow,and non-horizontal ***,when the width ratio is 1,there is a maximum 16.0%increase in mixing efficiency for small droplets with a length equal to the microchannel ***,for small droplets,mixing in an SMR microchannel is worse than in a smooth serpentine microchannel when the width ratio is less than *** increasing the ridge number,when the width ratio is 0.25,the mixing efficiency is reduced for small droplets but increased for larger droplets.

Sulfation treatment has been widely used to promote the catalytic performance of ceria(CeO_(2))based catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH_(3)(NH_(3)-SCR of NO).Praseodymium oxide(PrO_(x)),another commonly used rare earth material with similar structural properties as CeO_(2),also shows satistactory redox properties due to the facile redox cycle of Pr^(3+)■Pr^(4+).In this work,gas phase sulfation treatment with varied duration was performed on PrO_(x) at 200℃,and the NH_(3)-SCR activity of sulfated PrO_(x) was *** on the results of systematic characterizations(e.g.,N_(2)-physisorption,NH_(3) oxidation,NO oxidation,in situ diffuse Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy),it is revealed that the catalytic performance of sulfated PrO_(x)is highly dependent on the sulfation time(or the amount of sulfate species deposited on PrO_(x)),which has a significant impact on the competitive reaction between NH_(3) oxidation and NH_(3)-SCR of NO,thus determining the NH_(3)-SCR activity of PrO_(x).This work provides new insight into tuning the interaction between PrO_(x) surface and reactants(NO,NH_(3))via sulfation treatment,which cam guide the design and application of PrO_(x)based catalysts for NH_(3)-SCR of NO in the future.

Scaling laws for the intermittent swimming performance of a flexible plate at low Reynolds number

Many species of fish and birds travel in intermittent style,yet the combined influence of intermittency and other body kinematics on the hydrodynamics of a self-propelled swimmer is not fully *** formulating a reduced-order dynamical model for intermittent swimming,we uncover scaling laws that link the propulsive performance(cursing Reynolds number Rec,thrust T̄,input power P̄and cost of transport COT to body kinematics(duty cycle DC,flapping Reynolds number Ref).By comparing the derived scaling laws with the data from several previous studies and our numerical simulation,we demonstrate the validity of the *** addition,we found that Re_(c),T̄,P̄and COT all increase with the increase of DC,*** model also reveals that the intermittent swimming may not be inherently more energy efficient than continuous swimming,depending on the ratio of drag coefficients between active bursting and coasting.

High glass transition temperature dopant-free hole transport material via D-A-π-A-D-strategy for perovskite solar cell

Despite the great leap forward perovskite solar cells(PSCs)have achieved in power conversion efficiency,the device instability remains one of the major problems plaguing its ***-free hole transport material(HTM)has been widely studied as an important strategy to improve the stability of PSCs due to its avoidance of moisture-sensitive dopants and cumbersome doping *** this work,a series of dopant-free HTMs L1F,L2F and L3F based on D-A-π-A-D configuration were synthesized through two steps of reaction.L3F presents a high glass transition temperature of 1800C and thermal decomposition temperature of ***,electron paramagnetic resonance signals of L1F,L2F and L3F powders indicate the open-shell quinoidal diradical resonance structure in their aggregation state due to aggregation-induced radical *** these HTMs present higher hole mobility than dopant-free Spiro-OMeTAD,and the dopant-free L3F-based PSC device achieves the highest power conversion efficiency of 17.6%among *** addition,due to the high hydrophobic properties of L1F,L2F and L3F,the perovskite films spin-coated with these HTMs exhibit higher humidity stability than doped *** results demonstrate a promising design strategy for high glass transition temperature dopant-free hole transport *** open-shell quinoid-radical organic semiconductors are not rational candidates for dopant-free HTMs for PSC devices.
