Interactive portrait matting refers to extracting the soft portrait from a given image that best meets the user’s intent through their inputs. Existing methods often underperform in complex scenarios, mainly due to three factors. (1) Most works apply a tightly coupled network that directly predicts matting results, lacking interpretability and resulting in inadequate modeling. (2) Existing works are limited to a single type of user input, which is ineffective for intention understanding and also inefficient for user operation. (3) The multi-round characteristics have been under-explored, which is crucial for user interaction. To alleviate these limitations, we propose DFIMat, a decoupled framework that enables flexible interactive matting. Specifically, we first decouple the task into 2 sub-ones: localizing target instances by understanding scene semantics and the flexible user inputs, and conducting refinement for instance-level matting. We observe a clear performance gain from decoupling, as it makes sub-tasks easier to learn, and the flexible multi-type input further enhances both effectiveness and efficiency. DFIMat also considers the multi-round interaction property, where a contrastive reasoning module is designed to enhance cross-round refinement. Another limitation for multi-person matting task is the lack of training data. We address this by introducing a new synthetic data generation pipeline that can generate much more realistic samples than previous arts. A new large-scale dataset SMPMat is subsequently established. Experiments verify the significant superiority of DFIMat. With it, we also investigate the roles of different input types, providing valuable principles for users. A Novel Optimal Distributed Nonlinear Filter for Simultaneous State and Unknown Input Estimation in Multi-Sensor Networks

This letter investigates the problem of simultaneous state and unknown input estimation in a nonlinear system within multi-sensor networks. To avoid the linearization errors caused by existing methods, such as statistical linear regression techniques and first-order Taylor approximation, a novel optimal distributed nonlinear filter is proposed based on the unscented transformation and unbiased minimum variance criterion. First, the unscented transformation is applied to generate predicted estimates and the covariance matrix. Second, input and state estimation are carried out in an unbiased minimum variance manner using measurements from the nonlinear system. Third, a distributed strategy leveraging average consensus is employed to incorporate local estimates from neighboring sensors. Finally, simulation results confirm that the proposed method achieves substantial improvements in estimation accuracy compared to existing methods. © 1994-2012 IEEE.

Curve-Suppression-Based Event-Triggered Mechanisms for Quasi-Synchronization of Fuzzy Delayed Neural Networks on Time Scales

The vast majority of published event-triggered mechanisms (ETMs) are constructed based on measurement errors, which introduces a problem naturally that they are updated when the measurement errors exceed the thresholds although the current obtained sampling states can make systems converge well. With this problem in mind, we redesign ETMs for quasi-synchronization of T-S fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) with time delays on time scales. First, a novel ETM is designed for continuous-time FNNs with time-varying delays to achieve quasi-synchronization, with which synchronization errors is suppressed to globally exponentially converge to a ball. Second, we introduce the ETM for continuous-time FNNs to discrete-time FNNs, owing to the existence of discrete-time states, the Lypunov function of synchronization errors run over the exponentially decay curve, but it can be suppressed to evolve under another exponentially decay curve. Third, for FNNs on time scales with constant and time-varying delays, we estimate the forward jump operator of the Lyapunov functions and design ETMs to guarantee that the Lypunov functions evolve under the exponentially decay curves, so quasi-synchronization can be achieved. Last but not least, we prove that Zeno behavior will not happen and four numerical examples are introduced to verify the validity and the superiority of the proposed ETMs in reducing information transmission. © 2013 IEEE.

In the scenario of class-incremental learning (CIL), deep neural networks have to adapt their model parameters to non-stationary data distributions, e.g., the emergence of new classes over time. To mitigate the catastrophic forgetting phenomenon, typical CIL methods either cumulatively store exemplars of old classes for retraining model parameters from scratch or progressively expand model size as new classes arrive, which, however, compromises their practical value due to little attention paid to parameter efficiency. In this paper, we contribute a novel solution, effective control of the parameters of a well-trained model, by the synergy between two complementary learning subnetworks. Specifically, we integrate one plastic feature extractor and one analytical feed-forward classifier into a unified framework amenable to streaming data. In each CIL session, it achieves non-overwritten parameter updates in a cost-effective manner, neither revisiting old task data nor extending previously learned networks;Instead, it accommodates new tasks by attaching a tiny set of declarative parameters to its backbone, in which only one matrix per task or one vector per class is kept for knowledge retention. Experimental results on a variety of task sequences demonstrate that our method achieves competitive results against state-of-the-art CIL approaches, especially in accuracy gain, knowledge transfer, training efficiency, and task-order robustness. Furthermore, a graceful forgetting implementation on previously learned trivial tasks is empirically investigated to make its non-growing backbone (i.e., a model with limited network capacity) suffice to train on more incoming tasks. © 2025 IEEE.

Game-based Secondary control for DC Microgrids with Nash Equilibrium

Voltage regulation and current sharing are two major issues when designing distributed control strategies for DC microgrids. However, power supply economy of local generators also needs to be considered. In this paper, a game-based framework is constructed, where multiple generators are regarded as the participants with secondary control signals being the game actions. A distributed secondary control algorithm is proposed, while information mask is introduced to avoid transmitting true control signal to neighbors. Then, payoff function is designed for each generator, which is composed of voltage regulation error, current sharing error and the local generation cost. It is proved that under the proposed secondary control algorithm in conjunction with the payoff function, a unique Nash equilibrium can be reached. Consequently, the minimum of the payoff function can be achieved, where the optimization of system control behavior and local economic operation can be realized simultaneously. Numerical simulations and experimental tests are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed secondary control strategy within several scenarios. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Adaptive Neural Finite-Time Deployment of Heterogeneous Multi-agent Systems via a Cross-Species Bionic PDE-ODE Approach

For large-scale heterogeneous multi-agent systems (MASs) with characteristics of dense-sparse mixed distribution, this paper investigates the practical finite-time deployment problem by establishing a novel cross-species bionic analytical framework based on the partial differential equation-ordinary differential equation (PDE-ODE) approach. Specifically, by designing a specialized network communication protocol and employing the spatial continuum method for densely distributed agents, this paper models the tracking errors of densely distributed agents as a PDE equivalent to a human disease transmission model, and that of sparsely distributed agents as several ODEs equivalent to the predator population models. The coupling relationship between the PDE and ODE models is established through boundary conditions of the PDE, thereby forming a PDE-ODE-based tracking error model for the considered MASs. Furthermore, by integrating adaptive neural control scheme with the aforementioned biological models, a “Flexible Neural Network” endowed with adaptive and self-stabilized capabilities is constructed, which acts upon the considered MASs, enabling their practical finite-time deployment. Finally, effectiveness of the developed approach is illustrated through a numerical example.

Surface-PMSM Sensorless control Strategy Based on Reduced-Order Linear Kalman Filter Cooperating with Prediction Error Rolling Compensation

Kalman filter (KF) is increasingly attracted for sensorless control of surface permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs) due to its strong robustness against measurement and system noise. However, conventional method suffers from poor position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions, and high computational cost. In order to solve these problems, an enhanced sensorless control strategy based on reduced-order linear Kalman filter (RLKF) cooperating with prediction error rolling compensation is introduced in this paper. Differing from conventional method, a reduced-order linear state equation encompassing rotor position, speed and torque disturbance is constructed. Then, by obtaining the prediction error of system output using the motor current equation in the predictive reference frame, the optimal estimation of rotor position and speed in KF algorithm is achieved based on the reduced-order model. This not only simplifies the calculation process, but also enhances the position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions. Meanwhile, a prediction error rolling compensation algorithm is developed to minimize the estimation deviations caused by motor parameters variations. Additionally, the system's dynamic performance is further improved with an adopted speed controller based on torque disturbance feedforward and acceleration feedback. Finally, experimental results verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed strategy.1 © 1986-2012 IEEE.

A Novel Dynamic Peer-to-Peer Carbon Right Sharing Scheme for Microgrid Clusters

In this paper, a novel four-level distributed game decision-making framework of dynamic peer-to-peer (P2P) carbon emission right (CER) sharing is proposed for microgrid clusters (MGCs), which consists of four phases: exploration, selection, equilibrium and correction. Firstly, in the exploration stage, the tradable information is published by microgrids (MGs) and an initial set of tradable options is constructed. Secondly, in the selection stage, bilateral transaction coefficients are calculated according to the deficit and surplus of CERs in the P2P carbon market, and then an optimal sharing matching scheme of CERs is designed to reduce invalid transactions. Thirdly, in the equilibrium stage, a P2P carbon right sharing strategy based on the Stackelberg game is proposed to realize the dynamic change in carbon prices and the flexible conversion of master-slave roles in P2P carbon trading, which can promote the popularity of carbon market. Fourthly, in the correction stage, a carbon emission right balancer (CERB) is developed to avoid the imbalance of CERs, and then a billing scheme including incentives and penalties is established to achieve the benefit redistribution after P2P carbon trading. In the end, numerical results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-layer game decision-making framework for P2P carbon right sharing among MGs. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Tissue P Systems with Look-Ahead Mode

Tissue P systems are a class of distributed and parallel computing models inspired from inter-cellular communication and cooperation between cells. In this work, a variant of tissue P system, named tissue P system with look-ahead mode, is discussed for decreasing the inherent non-determinism of tissue P systems and helping implementing tissue P systems on computers. Such systems are proved to be universal by simulating register machine, and they are also proved to be able to efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff, which is illustrated with a polynomial solution to 3-coloring problem.

Revisiting Euclidean Alignment for Transfer Learning in EEG-Based Brain-Computer Interfaces

Due to the non-stationarity and large individual differences of EEG signals, EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) usually need subject-specific calibration to tailor the decoding algorithm for each new subject, which is time-consuming and user-unfriendly, hindering their real-world applications. Transfer learning (TL) has been extensively used to expedite the calibration, by making use of EEG data from other subjects/sessions. An important consideration in TL for EEG-based BCIs is to reduce the data distribution discrepancies among different subjects/session, to avoid negative transfer. Euclidean alignment (EA) was proposed in 2020 to address this challenge. Numerous experiments from 10 different BCI paradigms demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency. This paper revisits the EA, explaining its procedure and correct usage, introducing its applications and extensions, and pointing out potential new research directions. It should be very helpful to BCI researchers, especially those who are working on EEG signal decoding. © 2025, CC BY.
