Video stabilization refers to the problem of transforming a shaky video into a visually pleasing one. The question of how to strike a good trade-off between visual quality and computational speed has remained one of the open challenges in video stabilization. Inspired by the analogy between wobbly frames and jigsaw puzzles, we propose an iterative optimization-based learning approach using synthetic datasets for video stabilization, which consists of two interacting submodules: motion trajectory smoothing and full-frame outpainting. First, we develop a two-level (coarse-to-fine) stabilizing algorithm based on the probabilistic flow field. The confidence map associated with the estimated optical flow is exploited to guide the search for shared regions through backpropagation. Second, we take a divide-and-conquer approach and propose a novel multiframe fusion strategy to render full-frame stabilized views. An important new insight brought about by our iterative optimization approach is that the target video can be interpreted as the fixed point of nonlinear mapping for video stabilization. We formulate video stabilization as a problem of minimizing the amount of jerkiness in motion trajectories, which guarantees convergence with the help of fixed-point theory. Extensive experimental results are reported to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach in terms of computational speed and visual quality. The code will be available on GitHub. Unifying Gradients to Improve Real-World Robustness for Deep Networks

The wide application of deep neural networks (DNNs) demands an increasing amount of attention to their real-world robustness, i.e., whether a DNN resists black-box adversarial attacks, among which score-based query attacks (SQAs) are most threatening since they can effectively hurt a victim network with the only access to model outputs. Defending against SQAs requires a slight but artful variation of outputs due to the service purpose for users, who share the same output information with SQAs. In this paper, we propose a real-world defense by Unifying Gradients (UniG) of different data so that SQAs could only probe a much weaker attack direction that is similar for different samples. Since such universal attack perturbations have been validated as less aggressive than the input-specific perturbations, UniG protects real-world DNNs by indicating attackers a twisted and less informative attack direction. We implement UniG efficiently by a Hadamard product module which is plug-and-play. According to extensive experiments on 5 SQAs, 2 adaptive attacks and 7 defense baselines, UniG significantly improves real-world robustness without hurting clean accuracy on CIFAR10 and imageNet. For instance, UniG maintains a model of 77.80% accuracy under 2500-query Square attack while the state-of-the-art adversarially-trained model only has 67.34% on CIFAR10. Simultaneously, UniG outperforms all compared baselines in terms of clean accuracy and achieves the smallest modification of the model output. SymmNeRF: Learning to Explore Symmetry Prior for Single-View View Synthesis

We study the problem of novel view synthesis of objects from a single image. Existing methods have demonstrated the potential in single-view view synthesis. However, they still fail to recover the fine appearance details, especially in self-occluded areas. This is because a single view only provides limited information. We observe that man-made objects usually exhibit symmetric appearances, which introduce additional prior knowledge. Motivated by this, we investigate the potential performance gains of explicitly embedding symmetry into the scene representation. In this paper, we propose SymmNeRF, a neural radiance field (NeRF) based framework that combines local and global conditioning under the introduction of symmetry priors. In particular, SymmNeRF takes the pixel-aligned image features and the corresponding symmetric features as extra inputs to the NeRF, whose parameters are generated by a hypernetwork. As the parameters are conditioned on the image-encoded latent codes, SymmNeRF is thus scene-independent and can generalize to new scenes. Experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets show that SymmNeRF synthesizes novel views with more details regardless of the pose transformation, and demonstrates good generalization when applied to unseen objects. Memristor crossbar array is considered as a promising circuit module for accelerating neural networks. Because the memristor is tunable and multi-state, it is important to design applicable Read-Write (RW) circuit for driving memristor crossbar array. In this paper, a novel RW circuit based on analog circuits is proposed for tuning memristors in high-dimensional array parallelly, which is scalable and low-overhead. The standalone RW circuit schematic is presented for reading/writing single memristor and verified in circuit simulation. Then, we extend and apply this circuit into a two-dimensional memristor crossbar array. The performance of memristor crossbar array controlled by designed RW circuits is verified via the simulations under various machine learning datasets. The comparison with related works is presented, which demonstrates the advantages of the proposed RW circuit regarding overhead and anti-error.

The research of fuel cell and lithium battery hybrid system has attracted more and more researchers because of its advantages of low emission. However, the lower efficiency of energy management has been a critical factor that obstruct the commercialization of hybrid system. In this work, based on finite element ideas, a solid oxide full cell node model is developed to accurately estimate the operating status of the fuel cell. As for lithium battery, previous energy management studies generally only focused on state of charge, however, state of health is also a key parameter for lithium battery. In this paper, considering the strong coupling between variables we use particle filter algorithm to jointly estimate the state of charge and state of health. To reasonably distribute and manage the energy in the hybrid system, a T-S fuzzy controller for the hybrid system is designed by controlling the state variables in the SOFC model and the state of lithium battery. Finally, our algorithm is verified by DSPACE simulation platform. The result shows that the hybrid system with the energy management strategy not only meets the real-time sharply changing demand but also ensures the hybrid system working efficiently and safely. © 2022 China Electric Power Research Institute. This article proposes a multi-agent deep reinforce-ment learning algorithm to control a fleet of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) that encircle and capture sea targets. First, a simulation environment for USVs is established based on a dynamic model; two-dimensional control variables are used to control movements in three directions. Second, the multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) algorithm is employed to achieve intelligent control of the USVs, using a reward function based on certain prior knowledge. Finally, centralized training and decentralized execution are used to complete the offline learning of multiple agents, and continuous action decisions are made based on the observations of the USV sensors. Simulations demonstrate that the method can capture stationary moving sea targets with any number of multi-agents under disturbances, and exhibits strong robustness and practicality.

Tracing Intricate Cues in Dialogue: Joint Graph Structure and Sentiment Dynamics for Multimodal Emotion Recognition

Multimodal emotion recognition in conversation (MERC) has garnered substantial research attention recently. Existing MERC methods face several challenges: (1) they fail to fully harness direct inter-modal cues, possibly leading to less-than-thorough cross-modal modeling;(2) they concurrently extract information from the same and different modalities at each network layer, potentially triggering conflicts from the fusion of multi-source data;(3) they lack the agility required to detect dynamic sentimental changes, perhaps resulting in inaccurate classification of utterances with abrupt sentiment shifts. To address these issues, a novel approach named GraphSmile is proposed for tracking intricate emotional cues in multimodal dialogues. GraphSmile comprises two key components, i.e., GSF and SDP modules. GSF ingeniously leverages graph structures to alternately assimilate inter-modal and intra-modal emotional dependencies layer by layer, adequately capturing cross-modal cues while effectively circumventing fusion conflicts. SDP is an auxiliary task to explicitly delineate the sentiment dynamics between utterances, promoting the model’s ability to distinguish sentimental discrepancies. Furthermore, GraphSmile is effortlessly applied to multimodal sentiment analysis in conversation (MSAC), forging a unified multimodal affective model capable of executing MERC and MSAC tasks. Empirical results on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that GraphSmile can handle complex emotional and sentimental patterns, significantly outperforming baseline models. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Large-scale multiobjective optimization problems (LSMOPs) exist widely in real-world applications, and they are challenging for existing evolutionary algorithms due to their massive volume of search space. Despite that a number of large-scale multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (LSmoeAs) have been proposed in recent years, their effectiveness in solving LSMOPs remains unsatisfactory. One main reason is that most existing LSmoeAs may fail to balance convergence enhancement and diversity maintenance, especially for solving real-world problems. To address this issue, we propose to use a hybridized LSmoeA with adaptive operator selection (AOS) to handle real-world LSMOPs. Specifically, the proposed hybridized LSmoeA with AOS (AOS-LSmoeA) includes multiple different offspring generation and environmental selection strategies extracted from some existing LSmoeAs. Then it uses the AOS to adaptively determine the application rates of different offspring generation and environmental selection operators in an online manner. The proposed approach is capable of taking advantage of existing LSmoeAs, and the AOS enables the algorithm to choose suitable operators for solving different LSMOPs. In this study, the proposed algorithm is expected to solve the voltage transformer ratio error estimation (TREE) problems effectively. Experimental results show that AOS-LSmoeA achieves significant performance improvement due to the hybridization of different operators and the adoption of AOS method. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Constrained multiobjective optimization problems (CMOPs) are prevalent in various real-world applications, presenting a formidable challenge to existing evolutionary algorithms when faced with intricate constraints. When solving CMOPs, a crucial concern is achieving a balance between convergence, diversity, and feasibility. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a two-archive-based constrained multiobjective competitive swarm optimizer. The algorithm preserves two collaborative and complementary archives to improve population convergence and feasibility. By implementing a competitive particle swarm mechanism, offspring solutions are generated by drawing upon solutions from both archives, thus capitalizing on their synergistic effect and exceptional information. An adaptive parameter is also used to adjust the bias in choosing the winner in the paired competition during the evolution. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in handling constrained multiobjective optimization problems.
