Although the containers are featured by light-weightness, it is still resource-consuming to pull and startup a large container image, especially in relatively resource-constrained edge cloud. Fortunately, Docker, as the most widely used container, provides a unique layered architecture that allows the same layer to be shared between microservices so as to lower the deployment cost. Meanwhile, it is highly desirable to deploy dependent microservices of an application together to lower the operation cost. Therefore, the balancing of microservice deployment cost and the operation cost should be considered comprehensively to achieve minimal overall cost of an on-demand application. In this paper, we first formulate this problem into a Quadratic Integer Programming form (QIP) and prove it as a NP-hard problem. We further propose a Randomized Rounding-based Microservice Deployment and Layer Pulling (RR-MDLP) algorithm with low computation complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive experiments, we verify the high efficiency of our algorithm by the fact that it significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art microservice deployment strategies.

In recent years, high-speed trains are one of the popular research topics in the field of transportation and have attracted much attention from scholars at home and abroad in view of their high efficiency and safety features. High-speed trains are susceptible to unexpected situations of delayed arrival due to the disturbance of external factors including wind and temperature during the trip. The delay of high-speed trains has a vital impact on people's work efficiency and living standards. To solve the problem of intelligent forecast of high-speed train delay, we design and implement a clustering ensemble algorithm based on text data of bullet train operation environment monitoring. We firstly combine the concepts of cosine similarity, Jaccard similarity and information entropy, then fuse a bidirectional weighting formula, and further propose a novel Clustering Ensemble algorithm based on Bidirectional Weighted Co-association (CE-BWC). This approach consists of an inter-cluster weighting formula used to obtain the implicit generalized information by weighting each cluster between clusters, and a reliability weighting formula transferring the cluster information to the data item itself to measure the correlation degree of the data group. Experiments prove that our CE-BWC has better prediction performance for high-speed train delay and outperforms the state-of-the-art benchmark algorithms. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Image captioning is a vision-language task that targets at describing an image by generating a coherent sentence automatically. This technology allows computers to understand and describe images like humans, enabling further processing of images. It combines computer vision and natural language processing, which has broad applications. This paper investigates the use of vision-language pre-trained models for image captioning. In this article, an encoder-decoder hybrid model based on PVT and BERT is pre-trained on a large number of image-text pairs, possessing both understanding and generation capabilities. It consists of three components: 1) an image encoder and a text encoder to extract image and text features respectively; 2) a multi-modal encoder to align the two modalities; and 3) a text decoder to generate text descriptions. This paper focuses on enhancing the image encoder of the model, which is crucial for image captioning models as it extracts high-resolution image features. Reducing training time and computational costs can also improve the applicability of pre-trained models. Improvements are made to the original model by modifying the ViT model architecture of the image encoding module. A feature pyramid structure and a spatial reduction attention mechanism is introduced to extract high-resolution image features while reducing computational complexity and memory usage, thereby enhancing the universality of the model. The model adopts a pure Transformer architecture, discarding the convolutional structure, and achieves excellent performance.

APSeg: Auto-Prompt Network for Cross-Domain Few-Shot Semantic Segmentation

Few-shot semantic segmentation (FSS) endeavors to segment unseen classes with only a few labeled samples. Current FSS methods are commonly built on the assumption that their training and application scenarios share similar domains, and their performances degrade significantly while applied to a distinct domain. To this end, we propose to leverage the cutting-edge foundation model, the Segment Anything Model (SAM), for generalization enhancement. The SAM however performs unsatisfactorily on domains that are distinct from its training data, which primarily comprise natural scene images, and it does not support automatic segmentation of specific semantics due to its interactive prompting mechanism. In our work, we introduce APSeg, a novel auto-prompt network for cross-domain few-shot semantic segmentation (CD-FSS), which is designed to be auto-prompted for guiding cross-domain segmentation. Specifically, we propose a Dual Prototype Anchor Transformation (DPAT) module that fuses pseudo query prototypes extracted based on cycle-consistency with support prototypes, allowing features to be transformed into a more stable domain-agnostic space. Additionally, a Meta Prompt Generator (MPG) module is introduced to automatically generate prompt embeddings, eliminating the need for manual visual prompts. We build an efficient model which can be applied directly to target domains without fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on four cross-domain datasets show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art CD-FSS method by 5.24% and 3.10% in average accuracy on 1-shot and 5-shot settings, respectively. Large language models (LLMs) have excelled in various natural language processing tasks, but challenges in interpretability and trustworthiness persist, limiting their use in high-stakes fields. Causal discovery offers a promising approach to improve transparency and reliability. However, current evaluations are often one-sided and lack assessments focused on interpretability performance. Additionally, these evaluations rely on synthetic data and lack comprehensive assessments of real-world datasets. These lead to promising methods potentially being overlooked. To address these issues, we propose a flexible evaluation framework with metrics for evaluating differences in causal structures and causal effects, which are crucial attributes that help improve the interpretability of LLMs. We introduce the Open Causal Discovery Benchmark (OCDB), based on real data, to promote fair comparisons and drive optimization of algorithms. Additionally, our new metrics account for undirected edges, enabling fair comparisons between Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) and Completed Partially Directed Acyclic Graphs (CPDAGs). Experimental results show significant shortcomings in existing algorithms' generalization capabilities on real data, highlighting the potential for performance improvement and the importance of our framework in advancing causal discovery techniques. Hyperbolic Neural Network Based Preselection for Expensive Multi-Objective Optimization

A series of surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have been proposed for expensive multi-objective optimization problems (EMOPs), building cheap surrogate models to replace the expensive real function evaluations. However, the search efficiency of these SAEAs is not yet satisfactory. More efforts are needed to further exploit useful information from the real function evaluations in order to better guide the search process. Facing this challenge, this paper proposes a Hyperbolic Neural Network (HNN) based preselection operator to accelerate the optimization process based on limited evaluated solutions. First, the preselection task is modeled as a multi-label classification problem where solutions are classified into different layers (ordinal categories) through -relaxed objective aggregation. Second, in order to resemble the hierarchical structure of candidate solutions, a hyperbolic neural network is applied to tackle the multi-label classification problem. The reason for using HNN is that hyperbolic spaces more closely resemble hierarchical structures than Euclidean spaces. Moreover, to alleviate the data deficiency issue, a data augmentation strategy is employed for training the HNN. In order to evaluate its performance, the proposed HNN-based preselection operator is embedded into two surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms. Experimental results on two benchmark test suites and three real-world problems with up to 11 objectives and 150 decision variables involving seven state-of-the-art algorithms demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Temporal graph processing is used to handle the snapshots of the temporal graph, which concerns changes in graph over time. Although several software/hardware solutions have been designed for efficient temporal graph processing, they still suffer from serious irregular data access due to the uncoordinated graph traversal. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes SaGraph, a domain-specific hardware accelerator to support the efficient processing of temporal graph. Specifically, temporal graph processing shows strong data access similarity, i.e., most graph accesses of the processing of different snapshots are the same and usually refer to a small fraction of vertices. SaGraph can dynamically coordinate the graph traversals and adaptively cache the vertex states to fully exploit the data access similarity for smaller data access overhead. We implemented and evaluated SaGraph on a Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card. Compared with the cutting-edge software and hardware solutions, SaGraph achieves 8.5×-157.3×, 4.2×-16.1× speedups and 34.7×-423.6×, 5.3×-14.7× energy savings, respectively.

DAMPER: A Dual-Stage Medical Report Generation Framework with Coarse-Grained MeSH Alignment and Fine-Grained Hypergraph Matching

Medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. Medical data sharing can improve the quality of medical care and promote progress in the field of public health. However, medical data has high confidentiality and complexity. Taking the clinical diagnosis and treatment data of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (T2DM) in medical treatment as an example, T2DM data often has the phenomenon of "multi-disease coexistence" and is insecure and inaccurate in the process of sharing. Based on Blockchain and Attribute- Encryption (ABE), we propose a T2DM data sharing system to solve the above problems. An Attribute-Encryption algorithm T2DM-CP-ABE is proposed to solve the problem of excessive sharing granularity. T2DM-CP-ABE, combined with the medical data contribution module, takes the contribution factor as an important consideration, to stimulate the power of T2DM data sharing and promote the development of national diabetes prevention. Based on the Blockchain, a medical data attribute authorization model is proposed, which provides a credible solution for multiple hospitals to realize medical data attribute authorization, and realizes the clinical diagnosis and treatment data sharing of T2DM among doctors. Based on Blockchain and ABE technology, a data sharing system for T2DM has been implemented on the Fabric platform. The result shows that the average time for the system to complete a single sharing is less than 1 second.

The phenomenon of unbalanced regional medical resources has led to large differences in the implementation experience of clinical pathways in hospitals with different medical levels. However, due to the fear of privacy leakage and the lack of sharing motivation, there is a lack of effective collaborative communication channels for clinical pathways among medical institutions. In response to these problems, we propose a blockchain-based sharing incentive scheme for clinical pathway experience, which uses the clinical pathway implementation effect evaluation system to evaluate the quality of clinical pathway experience data. Specifically, we designe a two-phase cross-domain shared transaction model for the transaction of clinical pathway experience data. Moreover, we introduce the shared transaction alliance committee to verify and review the transaction, and solve the problems in the transaction in the arbitration phase. Finally, the functional test results show that the system meets the experience sharing incentive requirements, and the performance test results show that the TPS of sharing clinical pathway experience read and writed can reach around 600 and 1000, and the transaction latency of each phase is within 3 s.
