We demonstrate the idler generation based on degenerated four-wave mixing assisted by Raman amplification in highly nonlinear fiber. The pump source is internally created using a ring oscillation in the Raman cavity laser. The wavelength conversion efficiency is greater than unity within 19.5 nm wavelength range around the pump source.

This paper presents a new code structure and its ability in supporting multiple transmission rates in point to point spectral amplitude coding-optical code division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) links. The double-weight (DW) code family that has a basic fixed weight of 2 was proposed. Modified double weight (MDW) code is a DW code family variation that has variable weight of greater than two. The ability of MDW codes to support simultaneous transmissions at different bit rates is shown through simulated results of the bit error rate (BER) and the eye patterns. Four MDW encoded channels were used at the bit rates of 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps. MDW code shown here significantly performs better than Hadamard and modified frequency hopping (MFH) codes.

All-optical gain-control Raman fiber amplifier (RFA) based on ring cavity technique using a pair of circulators is investigated experimentally. A pair of 1465 nm laser diodes are used as the pump source to the RFA which provides a gain peak at around 1565 nm. The analyses of gain and noise figure are carried out using lasing wavelengths of 1550 and 1565 nm. Gain and noise figure variations are 0.4 and 0.5 dB respectively. We observed strong influence of pump-signal relative intensity noise transfer that results in noise figure penalty.

This paper proposes a prioritized scheduling in associated with contention resolution schemes for bufferless, single stage, non-blocking fully connected optical packet switch in synchronous optical packet switching network. We introduce a technique that integrates prioritized scheduling with wavelength conversion that can be realized by tunable optical wavelength converter (TOWC). It comprises a set of preemptive selective policies for contention resolution. This proposed scheme ensures packet loss probability below 10- 10 that supports traffic load up to 50%, without suffering from conventional buffering delay. It guarantees real-time delivery for high priority packet with elimination of unnecessary wavelength conversion

This paper presents a new scheme of WDM/OCDMA system that capable of providing differentiated services in access network. We implement the proposed double-weight (DW) code in this system. The double-weight (DW) code has a fixed weight of 2 and exists for every natural number, n. In spectral-amplitude-coding optical code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, DW code has an ideal cross correlation to eliminate multiuser interference and suppress the noise. We analyze the performance of the system by evaluating the bit error rate (BER) of different services.

Bi-conically tapered single-mode couplers are fabricated using a fiber fusion coupler workstation. Losses found during fabrication are analyzed for a range of elongation. It is found that longer elongations will lower the losses. Theoretically, the losses are due to the taper paths crossing delineating curves. These losses which occur during tapering process are not really adiabatic if part of the signal power is not guided at the end of tapering process. In other words, taper path will not be inside adiabatic region of cladding guidance. It will cross from core-guidance region into lossy region or non-adiabatic region of cladding guidance.
