Fake Face Detection Based on Fusion of Spatial Texture and High-Frequency Noise

The rapid development of the Internet has led to the widespread dissemination of manipulated facial images, significantly impacting people's daily lives. With the continuous advancement of Deepfake technology, the generated counterfeit facial images have become increasingly challenging to distinguish. There is an urgent need for a more robust and convincing detection method. Current detection methods mainly operate in the spatial domain and transform the spatial domain into other domains for analysis. With the emergence of transformers, some researchers have also combined traditional convolutional networks with transformers for detection. This paper explores the artifacts left by Deepfakes in various domains and, based on this exploration, proposes a detection method that utilizes the steganalysis rich model to extract high-frequency noise to complement spatial features. We have designed two main modules to fully leverage the interaction between these two aspects based on traditional convolutional neural networks. The first is the multi-scale mixed feature attention module, which introduces artifacts from high-frequency noise into spatial textures, thereby enhancing the model's learning of spatial texture features. The second is the multi-scale channel attention module, which reduces the impact of background noise by weighting the features. Our proposed method was experimentally evaluated on mainstream datasets, and a significant amount of experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in detecting Deepfake forged faces, outperforming the majority of existing methods.

Joint relation extraction models effectively mitigate the error propagation problem inherently present in pipeline models. Nevertheless, joint models face challenges including high computational complexity, complex network architectures, difficult parameter tuning, and notably, limited interpretability. In contrast, recent advances in pipeline relation extraction models (PURE, PL-Marker) have attracted considerable attention due to their lightweight design and high extraction accuracy. A key advancement is the introduction of a marker mechanism, which enhances relation extraction (RE) process by highlighting entities. However, these models primarily focus on generating correct labels. In doing so, they neglect the label selection process. Moreover, they fail to adequately capture the intricate interactions between entity pairs. To overcome these limitations, we develop a Candidate Label Markers (CLMs) mechanism that prioritizes strategic label selection over simple label generation. Furthermore, we facilitate interactions among diverse relation pairs, enabling the identification of more intricate relational patterns. Experimental results show that we achieve a new SOTA performance. Specifically, based on the same Named Entity Recognition (NER) results as theirs, we improve the SOTA methods by 2.5%, 1.9%, 1.3% in terms of strict F1 scores on SciERC, ACE05 and ACE04. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Multiple Edge Data Integrity Verification with Multi-Vendors and Multi-Servers in Mobile Edge Computing

Ensuring Edge Data Integrity (EDI) is imperative in providing reliable and low-latency services in mobile edge computing. Existing EDI schemes typically address single-vendor (App Vendor, AV) single-server (Edge Server, ES), single-vendor multi-server, and multi-vendor multi-server scenarios, which consider a single data replica cached by an ES from the AVs. However, the most practical scenario of Multi-Vendors and Multi-Servers with Multiple Data (MVMS-MD) cached by an ES from different AVs remains unexplored. Current solutions struggle when applied to this scenario due to increased computation and communication costs in the verification process across all ESs using the classical challenge-response per-data multi-round strategy. To tackle this issue, we propose a Multiple EDI-Verification (MEDI-V) approach in this paper. In particular, our MEDI-V utilizes an adaptive Merkle Hash Tree (ad-MHT) to efficiently generate a tree of multiple data replicas within each AV. Next, the dynamic mechanism computes minimal verification information using ad-MHT to create a challenge for individual ESs to produce EDI proofs. The ES then leverages its ad-MHT and the ES’s proof to send the reconstructed ad-MHT root to the AV for verification. Theoretical insights into MEDI-V’s correctness, efficiency, security, and comprehensive evaluations demonstrate its superiority in addressing MEDI issues in the MVMS-MD scenario. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Deepfake detection has gained increasing research attention in media forensics, and a variety of works have been produced. However, subtle artifacts might be eliminated by compression, and the convolutional neural networks (CNNs)-based detectors are invalidated for fake face images with compression. In this work, we propose a two-stream network for deepfake detection. We observed that high-frequency noise features and spatial features are inherently complementary to each other. Thus, both spatial features and high-frequency noise features are exploited for face forgery detection. Specifically, we design a double-frequency transformer module (DFTM) to guide the learning of spatial features from local artifact regions. To effectively fuse spatial features and high-frequency noise features, a dual-domain attention fusion module (DDAFM) is designed. We also introduce a local relationship constraint loss, which requires only image-level labels, for model training. We evaluate the proposed approach on five large-scale benchmark datasets, and extensive experimental results demonstrate the proposed approach outperforms most SOTA works. © 2024 IEEE.

Here, a silicon-based metasurface integrated on a silicon nitride (SiNx) waveguide is proposed, enabling continuous control of light's phase and polarization. By utilizing resonant phase, geometric phase, and detour phase with fixed inter-unit spacing, the metasurface achieves full phase coverage under arbitrary polarization states while reducing design *** demonstrate hologram images of letters under four polarization states: x-, y-, right circular, and left elliptical polarizations, achieving phase control with the same amplitude in corresponding polarizations. The results provide more possibilities for generating complex free space light fields via on-chip devices. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group.

Strong noise is one of the biggest challenges in controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) exploration, which severely affects the quality of the recorded signal. We develop a novel and effective CSEM noise attenuation method that integrates a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) with a high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism. This method first uses a DCNN to learn the large-scale noise characteristics of CSEM measured data and build a DCNN denoising model for attenuating the noise. Because some impulse noise remains after DCNN denoising, the high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism is innovatively applied to optimize the DCNN denoised data. The core of this method is the smoothness value (SV), which quantitatively evaluates the smoothness of the sounding curve (apparent resistivity curve). In effect, the mechanism segments the overall DCNN denoised data and calculates the corresponding sounding curve and its SV for each segment. The highest-quality sounding curve can be screened out by comparing the SVs of all curves as well as obtaining the highest-quality data segment present in the overall DCNN denoised data. Finally, our method is validated with synthetic and field data, demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness in attenuating large-scale CSEM noise. The quality of CSEM data, which is heavily affected by noise, is significantly improved after processing by our method. © 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. All rights reserved.

In this study, we introduce a novel application of transformer for document image unwarping, leveraging depth information and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) results. Our proposed model integrates two key modules: a depth module and an OCR module, into the transformer framework tailored for document image processing. The depth module predicts the relative depth of each pixel in the document image, thereby providing crucial spatial context for unwarping. Concurrently, the OCR module identifies regions suitable for OCR, acting as preferences for the unwarping process. This hybrid approach aims to mitigate text distortion inherent in document image unwarping, consequently enhancing OCR accuracy, although it may reduce our model’s capability in structural image unwarping. Experimental results showcase our model’s effectiveness, achieving a Character Error Rate (CER) of 24.81%, marking a significant 6.2% absolute enhancement compared to the baseline method, DocTr. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Phase noise is inevitably present in wireless communications, arising from both hardware impairments and imperfect channel estimation, and has substantial implications on the integrity and efficiency of communication systems. However, phase noise brings more to wireless systems than just negative effects. For instance, phase noise can be used as a physical layer feature to authenticate received signals and as a source for random number generation. There is a surprising lack of a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art estimation methods and applications of phase noise in wireless communications. In this paper, we conduct the first comprehensive survey on the modeling, estimation, and applications of phase noise in wireless communications. We review the state-of-the-art phase-noise models, phase-noise estimation, and mitigation techniques via joint transmit-receive design, as well as applications of phase noise in wireless communications, while highlighting contributions and critical issues of each reviewed work. Finally, we provide an expansive set of research directions, accompanying challenges, and potential solutions related to phase noise that could shape the future of phase noise research in wireless communications. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Robust Trajectory Design and Task Scheduling With Data Compression in Industrial Internet of Things Assisted by UAV

Data compression technology is able to reduce data size, which can be applied to lower the cost of task offloading in mobile edge computing (MEC). This article addresses the practical challenges for robust trajectory and scheduling optimization based on data compression in the uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted MEC, aiming to minimize the sum energy cost of terminal users while maintaining robust performance during UAV flight. Considering the nonconvexity of the problem and the dynamic nature of the scenario, the optimization problem is reformulated as a Markov decision process (MDP). Then, a randomized ensembled double Q-learning (REDQ) algorithm is adopted to solve the issue. The algorithm allows for higher feasible update-to-data ratio, enabling more effective learning from observed data. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme effectively reduces the energy consumption while ensuring flight robustness. Compared to the PPO and A2C algorithms, energy consumption is reduced by approximately 21.9% and 35.4%, respectively. This method demonstrates significant advantages in complex environments and holds great potential for practical applications. © 2014 IEEE.
