Multimodal dialogue emotion recognition integrates data from multiple modalities to accurately identify emotional states in conversations. However, differences in expression and information density across modalities complicate the fusion of features. Traditional methods may introduce redundant information from other utterances, reducing the accuracy of emotion recognition. Existing one-hot labels often fail to capture the full range of emotional expressions, leading to biased results. To address these issues, we propose a model that fuses different modalities within the same utterance to avoid redundancy. It employs a progressive classification process, refining emotion recognition from coarse to fine granularity. Additionally, we use emotion polarity probabilities as weights for fine-grained classification and introduce a multimodal information-rich label that considers both the data and their interactions. Experiments on IEMOCAP and MELD datasets demonstrate the model’s effectiveness, significantly improving dialog emotion recognition accuracy. Our code is available at https://***/r/LOCG-188E.

Next point-of-interest (POI) recommendation aims to predict the next interested POI to the user based on their historical check-in data in location-based social services. Most existing studies have attempted to model user visiting behaviors via sequence-based and graph-based models, and have achieved impressive performance. However, there is still room to explore the implicit transition preferences and contextual multiple semantic relationships among various POIs. To this end, we propose a novel graph-based Multi-Relational Variational Contrastive Learning (MRVCL) method for next POI recommendation, which captures local similarity associations and global contextual dependencies among POIs. Specifically, an order-free local-relational adaptive weighting module is designed to alleviate the problem of insufficient utilization of multi-hop neighbor information caused by the limit of neighbor order of nodes. We then develop a contextaware global-relational encoding module to capture implicit semantic sequential relationships. Finally, generative variational-contrastive learning is employed to construct a continuous representation of the latent features and reinforce the quality of representation learning. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets validate that our MRVCL outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on various evaluation metrics. The traditional Mongolian script poses significant challenges for text rendering due to its vertical orientation, complex glyph variations, and context-dependent shapes, compounded by limited linguistic resources. This paper introduces the first method specifically designed to address the out-of-vocabulary (OOV) word problem in traditional Mongolian script conversion. We present a novel dataset and propose MonTransformer, the first Transformer-based model tailored for converting Unicode phonetic sequences into glyph sequences. MonTransformer utilizes dynamic optimization and contrastive learning to effectively manage OOV cases and improve sequence generation accuracy, transforming Unicode inputs into visually accurate glyph representations. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance, maintaining the script's visual fidelity and advancing efforts in digital preservation for complex scripts. © 2025 IEEE.

DHAG-DTA: Dynamic Hierarchical Affinity Graph Model for Drug-Target Binding Affinity Prediction

Computational methods for predicting drug-target binding affinity (DTA) are critical for large-scale screening of prospective therapeutic compounds during drug discovery. Deep neural networks (DNNs) have recently shown significant promise for DTA prediction. By leveraging available data for training, DNNs can expand the use of DTA prediction to situations where only sequence information is available for potential drug molecules and their targets, and there is no prior knowledge regarding the molecular geometric conformations. We propose DHAG-DTA, a general dynamic hierarchical affinity graph DNN approach, for DTA prediction using molecular sequence information and already known drug-target interactions. DHAG-DTA introduces a two-level hierarchical graph structure: at the upper level, interactions between drug and target molecules are represented via an affinity graph and at the lower level, embedded molecular graphs represent interactions within the individual molecules. This allows for integration of information from both inter and intra molecular interactions for DTA prediction, which has also been addressed in other recent independent work. The fundamental innovations introduced by DHAG-DTA include: (a) a single overall hierarchical graph that allows better assimilation of information during the learning process compared with loosely-coupled individual graphs, (b) dynamic determination of the affinity graph structure via the introduction of unlabeled edges and a maximum entropy criterion for active edge selection, (c) skip connections in the DNN for fusing intra and inter molecular information, and (d) fusion of both model-based and similarity-based feature embeddings to get robust embeddings of unseen molecules. Experimental results on two common benchmark datasets demonstrate that DHAG-DTA outperforms other existing models on multiple evaluation metrics, achieving state-of-the-art performance.

Echo State Networks (ESNs) are popular in Time Series Classification (TSC) due to their high-dimensional stochastic projections. However, due to the echo state at the current step is susceptible to the preceding step, the existing ESNs struggle to capture the long-term temporal dependencies. Furthermore, most of them only employ the unidirectional storage to capture the sequence information, which fails to fully consider the impact of the past and future moments simultaneously. To address these issues, we propose an advanced method called Bidirectional Skip-stored Dual-Stream Gated Attention Network (BSDSGANet) for Multivariate Time Series Classification (MTSC). Specifically, to roundly exploit the sequence information, a Bidirectional Skip-Stored Encoder (BSSE) is designed to enrich the temporal context by integrating past and future information. Then, a Dual-Stream Gated Attention Learner (DSGAL) mechanism is incroporated, which employs a Gated Recurrent Self-Attention (GRSA) module to learn the long-term dependencies and variable relationships. Meanwhile, a Multi-Scale Gated Attention (MSGA) module is developed to extract more important features from multiple scales. Extensive experiments conducted on eighteen benchmark MTSC datasets show that BSDSGANet outperforms five traditional methods and twelve deep learning models. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Unsupervised Multivariate Time Series Anomaly Detection by Feature Decoupling in Federated Learning Scenarios

Anomalies are usually regarded as data errors or novel patterns previously unseen, which are quite different from most observed data. Accurate detection of anomalies is crucial in various application scenarios. This paper focuses on unsupervised anomaly detection from Multivariate Time Series (MTS), as real-world data collected from sources such as wearable devices, medical equipment and industrial machines typically manifest as MTS and are often unlabeled. Anomaly detection in MTS represents a data-driven challenge that traditionally requires substantial centralized data for training models. However, in practice, data are frequently distributed among multiple institutions, with privacy concerns restricting unrestricted access. To address these issues, we introduce Feature Decoupling Federated Learning (FDFL), an approach designed to collaboratively train a representation learning network over multiple clients for unsupervised anomaly detection in MTS. Unlike previous methods that simply integrate MTS anomaly detection algorithms with federated learning strategies, FDFL specifically addresses heterogeneity among clients by decoupling the representation network into shared and private branches through a contrastive learning mechanism. This method aggregates shared parameters during each federated round while maintaining client-specific private parameters locally. Additionally, we develop a self-attention block that integrates the representations derived from both shared and private parameters to reconstruct MTS and identify anomalies based on reconstruction errors. Extensive experiments conducted on three publicly available datasets demonstrate that FDFL outperforms existing algorithms in most cases, highlighting the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed method in MTS anomaly detection. © 2020 IEEE.

Event Stream-based Visual Object Tracking: HDETrack V2 and A High-Definition Benchmark

Recent years have witnessed unprecedented growth in the field of visual object tracking using bio-inspired event cameras. Previous research in this domain has primarily followed two paths: aligning RGB data and event streams for precise tracking or developing trackers that rely solely on events. However, while the former approach often incurs significant computational costs during inference, the latter may struggle with challenges posed by noisy event data or limited spatial resolution. In this paper, we present a hierarchical knowledge distillation framework designed to leverage multi-modal and multi-view information during the training phase, while utilizing only event signals for tracking. Specifically, we first train a teacher Transformer-based multi-modal/multi-view tracking network by simultaneously feeding RGB frames and event streams. We then introduce a novel hierarchical knowledge distillation strategy that incorporates the similarity matrix, feature representation, and response map-based distillation to guide the learning of the student Transformer network. We also enhance the model’s ability to capture temporal dependencies by applying the temporal Fourier transform to establish temporal relationships between video frames. We adapt the network model to specific target objects during testing via a newly proposed test-time tuning strategy to achieve high performance and flexibility in target tracking. Recognizing the limitations of existing event-based tracking datasets, which are predominantly low-resolution (346 × 260), we propose EventVOT, the first large-scale high-resolution (1280 × 720) event-based tracking dataset. It comprises 1141 videos spanning diverse categories such as pedestrians, vehicles, UAVs, ping pong, etc. Extensive experiments on both low-resolution (FE240hz, VisEvent, FELT), and our newly proposed high-resolution EventVOT dataset fully validated the effectiveness of our proposed method. Federated Learning (FL) faces significant challenges in scenarios with non-IID (non-independent and identically distributed) data distributions across participating clients. Traditional aggregation-based approaches often struggle with the inherent misalignment between local and global optimization objectives, leadingwhich leads to gradient divergence and suboptimal generalization performance. This paper proposes a novel FL framework that replaces conventional aggregation with a biologically inspired model symbiosis approach called FedSym, which employs a dual-level symbiotic mechanism. Ectosymbiosis performs coarse-grained hierarchical parameter recombinations through random layer-wise model combination, while endosymbiosis enables fine-grained intra-layer parameter fusion through weighted averaging, collectively steering model updates towards flatter loss landscapes. Our theoretical analysis demonstrates that FedSym's convergence rate is O(1T) under non-IID conditions, which matches the convergence properties of FedAvg. Extensive experimentsevaluations across multiple datasets and model architectures show that FedSym achieves substantial improvements over state-of-the-art FL methods, particularly in challenging scenarios with high data heterogeneity, and demonstrates robust performance across varying numbers of participating clients and federation scales. © 2014 IEEE.

Sign Language Translation using Frame and Event Stream: Benchmark Dataset and Algorithms

Accurate sign language understanding serves as a crucial communication channel for individuals with disabilities. Current sign language translation algorithms predominantly rely on RGB frames, which may be limited by fixed frame rates, variable lighting conditions, and motion blur caused by rapid hand movements. Inspired by the recent successful application of event cameras in other fields, we propose to leverage event streams to assist RGB cameras in capturing gesture data, addressing the various challenges mentioned above. Specifically, we first collect a large-scale RGB-Event sign language translation dataset using the DVS346 camera, termed VECSL, which contains 15,676 RGB-Event samples, 15,191 glosses, and covers 2,568 Chinese characters. These samples were gathered across a diverse range of indoor and outdoor environments, capturing multiple viewing angles, varying light intensities, and different camera motions. Due to the absence of benchmark algorithms for comparison in this new task, we retrained and evaluated multiple state-of-the-art SLT algorithms, and believe that this benchmark can effectively support subsequent related research. Additionally, we propose a novel RGB-Event sign language translation framework (i.e., M2-SLT) that incorporates fine-grained micro-sign and coarse-grained macro-sign retrieval, achieving state-of-the-art results on the proposed dataset. Unsupervised Domain Adaptation via Bidirectional Transmission Generator Self-Training

Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) aims to transfer knowledge from the labeled source domain to the fully unlabeled target domain, thus improving the classification performance of the target domain. Recently, self-training methods have shown their effectiveness on UDA. It iteratively trains target data using the generated target pseudo-labels. However, the feature space for generating pseudo-labels contains a large amount of source information, which traps the model in the source domain, making it challenging for the generator to learn discriminative features of the target domain. In this article, we propose a self-training domain adaptation (DA) model with bidirectional transmission generators (BDTGs). Specifically, we design a bidirectional transmission structure for generators, using exponential moving average (EMA) as the bridge between two generators. The structure has two advantages: 1) by transmitting weight parameters to each other during the training process, it promotes the shift of the feature space, thereby alleviating the difficulty of the model in adapting target domain features and 2) the transmission disturbs the classification boundary and is able to expose unreliable target samples near the boundary. We design a cosine similarity-based filter to identify such samples, to reduce the influence of noisy pseudo-labels with incorrect semantic information on the model. Extensive experiments conducted on five benchmark UDA datasets show that our approach has superior classification performance. © 2012 IEEE.
