Underwater images play a key role in ocean exploration, but often suffer from severe quality degradation due to light absorption and scattering in water medium. Although major breakthroughs have been made recently in the general area of image enhancement and restoration, the applicability of new methods for improving the quality of underwater images has not specifically been captured. In this paper, we review the image enhancement and restoration methods that tackle typical underwater image impairments, including some extreme degradations and distortions. Firstly, we introduce the key causes of quality reduction in underwater images, in terms of the underwater image formation model (IFM). Then, we review underwater restoration methods, considering both the IFM-free and the IFM-based approaches. Next, we present an experimental-based comparative evaluation of state-of-the-art IFM-free and IFM-based methods, considering also the prior-based parameter estimation algorithms of the IFM-based methods, using both subjective and objective analysis (the used code is freely available at https://***/wangyanckxx/Single-UnderwaterImage-Enhancement-and-Color-Restoration). Starting from this study, we pinpoint the key shortcomings of existing methods, drawing recommendations for future research in this area. Our review of underwater image enhancement and restoration provides researchers with the necessary background to appreciate challenges and opportunities in this important field. Personal Health Record (PHR) plays an important role in realizing the exchange and interaction of medical information as well as in managing chronic diseases. In the recent decade, plenty of researches have been carried out to resolve the secure sharing issue of PHR in the cloud via access control schemes. Attribute-based Encryption (ABE) is a promising technique, which implements access control by introducing the access policy. When ABE is used to construct access control scheme in the cloud, hiding and updating access policy have always been two research hotspots. However, all of the existing solutions only consider one of these two issues separately. How to combine policy hiding and policy updating to achieve secure and efficient access control has always been avoided. Furthermore, the practical deployments of traditional ABE in the medical environment are limited by its small attribute universe. In this paper, we propose a policy hiding and updating ABE (PHU-ABE) based on the Fast Attribute-based Encryption (FAME) to tackle these challenges. We argue the security of PHU-ABE. The experimental results demonstrate that our scheme not only protects users' privacy but also realizes efficient policy updating.

Based on the fact that there always exists error in the impulsive intensity, which leads to the fact that the coefficient is un-fixed, and in the occurrence of the impulses, we propose a new model, which is called nonlinear impulsive control system with impulse time windows and un-fixed coefficient of impulsive intensity. We find sufficient conditions for ensuring its stability by using Lypunov's method. We choose chaotic Lorenz system and Chua's system as numerical examples to show the effectiveness of the results, by employing such method, the systems are controlled. © 2019 IEEE.

In MOEA/D, the replacement strategy plays a key role in balancing diversity and convergence. However, existing adaptive replacement strategies either focus on neighborhood or global replacement strategy, which may have no obvious effects on balance of diversity and convergence in tackling complicated MOPs. In order to overcome this shortcoming, we propose a hybrid mechanism balancing neighborhood and global replacement strategy. In this mechanism, a probability threshold is applied to determine whether to execute a neighborhood or global replacement strategy, which could balance diversity and convergence. Furthermore, we design an offspring generation method to generate the high-quality solution for each subproblem, which can ease mismatch between subproblems and solutions. Based on the classic MOEA/D, we design a new algorithm framework, called MOEA/D-HRS. Compared with other state-of-the-art MOEAs, experimental results show that the proposed algorithm obtains the best performance. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common retinal disease that leads to blindness. For diagnosis purposes, DR image grading aims to provide automatic DR grade classification, which is not addressed in conventional research methods of binary DR image classification. Small objects in the eye images, like lesions and microaneurysms, are essential to DR grading in medical imaging, but they could easily be influenced by other objects. To address these challenges, we propose a new deep learning architecture, called BiRA-Net, which combines the attention model for feature extraction and bilinear model for fine-grained classification. Furthermore, in considering the distance between different grades of different DR categories, we propose a new loss function, called grading loss, which leads to improved training convergence of the proposed approach. In this work we consider the first encounter problems between a fixed and/or mobile target A and a moving trap B on Bethe Lattices and Cayley trees. The survival probability (SP) of the target A on the both kinds of structures are analyzed analytically and compared. On Bethe Lattices, the results show that the fixed target will still prolong its survival time, whereas, on Cayley trees, there are some initial positions where the target should move to prolong its survival time. The mean first encounter time (MFET) for mobile target A is evaluated numerically and compared with the mean first passage time (MFPT) for the fixed target A. Different initial settings are addressed and clear boundaries are obtained. These findings are helpful for optimizing the strategy to prolong the survival time of the target or to speed up the search process on Cayley trees, in relation to the target’s movement and the initial position configuration of the two walkers. We also present a new method, which uses a small amount of memory, for simulating random walks on Cayley trees. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

How to effectively measure the similarity between two sentences is a challenging task in natural language processing. In this paper, we propose a sentence similarity comparison method that combines word embeddings and syntactic structure. First of all, by generating the corresponding syntactic tree, we synthetically analyze the two sentences and block them according to the syntactic components. Secondly, we prune the syntactic tree, remove the stop words and perform morphological restoration. Then, some important operations will be performed, such as passive flipping, negative flipping, and so on. Finally, the similarity of two sentence pairs is calculated by weighting the block embeddings of the syntactic tree. Experiments show the effectiveness of this method. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018.

Asymmetric GAN for unpaired image-to-image translation

Unpaired image-to-image translation problem aims to model the mapping from one domain to another with unpaired training data. Current works like the well-acknowledged Cycle GAN provide a general solution for any two domains through modeling injective mappings with a symmetric structure. While in situations where two domains are asymmetric in complexity, i.e. the amount of information between two domains is different, these approaches pose problems of poor generation quality, mapping ambiguity, and model sensitivity. To address these issues, we propose Asymmetric GAN (AsymGAN) to adapt the asymmetric domains by introducing an auxiliary variable (aux) to learn the extra information for transferring from the information-poor domain to the information-rich domain, which improves the performance of state-of-the-art approaches in the following ways. First, aux better balances the information between two domains which benefits the quality of generation. Second, the imbalance of information commonly leads to mapping ambiguity, where we are able to model one-to-many mappings by tuning aux, and furthermore, our aux is controllable. Third, the training of Cycle GAN can easily make the generator pair sensitive to small disturbances and variations while our model decouples the ill-conditioned relevance of generators by injecting aux during training. We verify the effectiveness of our proposed method both qualitatively and quantitatively on asymmetric situation, label-photo task, on Cityscapes and Helen datasets, and show many applications of asymmetric image translations. In conclusion, our AsymGAN provides a better solution for unpaired image-to-image translation in asymmetric domains. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Method of Searching for Optimal Coalition Structure for Solving Resource Scheduling Problem of Overall Load Balancing in Edge Computing Environments

The cooperative computing resource scheduling problem in the distributed computing environment is usually transformed into the problem about how to find the optimal coalition structure. However, affected by factors such as high node density and large number of concurrent tasks in edge computing environments, it is difficult to formulate resource scheduling schemes for overall load balancing in a large strategic space by traditional methods. In order to solve this problem, we proposed a method of searching for optimal coalition structure based on discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO). Firstly, we converted the resource scheduling problem of edge computing into an optimization problem model, constructed a new structure of coalition structure to express the resource scheduling scheme, and gave key elements such as optimization objectives, decision variables, and constraint conditions. Secondly, we improved DPSO and designed M-ary discrete particle swarm optimization (MDPSO): improved particle state determination method for adapting to the new expression of the coalition structure, and proposed a power series-based inertia weight computing method to improve the optimization speed and the optimal solution quality. Finally, we simulated real application scenarios and designed comparative experiments on the optimization speed, the optimal solution quality, stability, etc., which verifies that the method proposed in this paper has obvious advantages in solving the resource scheduling problem of overall load balancing in edge computing.

Optimal seam line detection in laplacian pyramid domain for image stitching

Parallax handing is a challenging problem for image stitching. Optimal seam line method is employed in this paper to deal with the misalignment on panoramas caused by parallax problem. It's an important method for orthoimage stitching in remote sensing. However, failures occur when it used in common image stitching due to the parallax problem. In order to obtain a better panorama for common image, the proposed approach mainly employs optimal seam line and contains the following three steps. First, the parallax problem can be alleviated by geometric correction. Then, the optimal seam line is detected within the overlapping region by dynamic programming in Laplacian pyramid domain. And images were blended by using blending trick on each corresponding level of the pyramids. Finally, the convincing panorama can be obtained by reconstructing the panoramic pyramid. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed method can obtain the clear and seamless panoramas. © 2018 computer Society of the Republic of China. All rights reserved.
