—Cyber Movement Organization (CMO) is a special kind of social movement organization on the Web. In this paper, we propose a model to simulate the mobilizing process of CMO, which consists of the individual unit, organization unit, and the mobilizing mechanisms. The mobilizing mechanisms has three sub-mechanisms: the participation mechanism, the choice mechanism, and the inviting mechanism. A dataset of more than two million “human flesh search” related microblogs is used to validate the model. Empirical results show that our model can capture the key features of the real-world mobilizing process.

Large-scale artificial societies with millions or billions of agents call for high-performance parallel *** supercomputers with thousands of CPUs and GPUs make it possible to carry out such *** key is to distribute large-scale agents to massive cores of CPUs and GPUs properly for parallel computing with efficient communication and *** simplicity and efficiency,a modified discrete event system specification(DEVS)is proposed for large-scale artificial society modeling and parallelism is exploited in agent models because similar agents usually share similar *** phased synchronization,a two-tier parallel simulation engine is designed with support of MPI and OpenCL where GPU is used as ***-sided communication is used for reflection of remote simulation objects and message passing between processes.A general kernel function prototype is elaborately designed and conditionally compiled for execution on both CPU and *** artificial society for epidemic study is used to test the performance on a supercomputer with 1024 CPU cores and 1792 GPU *** speedup reaches 3512 for even 2 billion agents with GPU acceleration which is far over 701 when only CPUs are *** turns out feasible for parallel simulation of large-scale artificial society with GPU as coprocessor.

We use agent-based simulations to study emergency evacuation in buildings, and design the interior layout of buildings. We build an abstract scene for the first floor of an emporium in Changsha city in China. The scene includes eight rooms and various objects. We build grid-based environmental models and heterogeneous agent models. Then we conduct simulation experiments to evaluate the performance of two scenes for emergency evacuation, initial scene and optimized scene. Through statistic analysis, we conclude that optimized scene performs better for emergency evacuation than initial scene. © 2013 IEEE.

A high efficient incremental microblog crawler: design and implementation

With the rapid development of microblog technology, many interesting research issues in microblog have aroused growing attention. Fetching data from microblog is the groundwork of these researches. In this paper we propose a flexible multithreading microblog crawling architecture based on the classic multiproducers and multi-consumers model, and further implement a high efficient incremental microblog crawler towards Sina Microblog (also called Weibo). The designed crawler can solve the vertical crawling, dynamic webpage and automatic loginning problems which can't be solved by the general crawler. Meanwhile it can achieve high-precision structured webdata extraction. Some measurements are designed to evaluate the crawling performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the crawler can achieve over 95% coverage and a good freshness. Copyright © 2013 Binary Information Press.

A software framework for ACP in social computing

This paper proposes a novel software framework called KD-ACP. The framework implements the techniques of Artificial Society, computational experiments and parallel Execution. KD-ACP provides a systematic and automatic platform for scientists to study the emergency management problems in social computing. It is composed of a series of tools categorized into three parts correspond with the “A”, “C” and “P” respectively. The results from case study show that the most optimal emergency response decisions can be found through the software framework. In the end, the advantages of the KD-ACP and the futures work are summarized in the conclusion.

How can we foster and grow artificial societies so as to cause social properties to emerge that are logical, consistent with real societies, and are expected by design- ers？ We propose a framework for fostering artificial soci- eties using social learning mechanisms and social control ap- proaches. We present the application of fostering artificial so- cieties in parallel emergency management systems. Then we discuss social learning mechanisms in artificial societies, in- cluding observational learning, reinforcement learning, imi- tation learning, and advice-based learning. Furthermore, we discuss social control approaches, including social norms, social policies, social reputations, social commitments, and sanctions.

Micro-simulation becomes more and more important in the Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research, because it can provide detailed descriptions of the system. For a multi-agent systems (MAS) modeling of an ITS, the computation burden is large, as it involves the computation of the state changing of all the agents. And, there are many multi-objective optimization problems in the ITS research. In this paper, we solve the traffic light signaling optimization problem and we take the average delay time and the average stop times as two objectives. We use a famous method of Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). As NSGA-II can be viewed as an intelligent way of running a number of micro-simulations, usually the computation burden is huge. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been a popular tool for parallel computing. The real transportation system runs in parallel and we think that a parallel tool is more suitable for the simulation and optimization of the system. We test GPU based NSGA-II method on a 4 intersection lattice road network, and on the 18 intersection road network of the Zhongguancun area of Beijing. Compared with the CPU version, the GPU version implementation achieves a speedup factor of 21.46 and 27.64 respectively.

The field of social computing emerged more than ten years ago. During the last decade, researchers from a vari- ety of disciplines have been closely collaborating to boost the growth of social computing research. This paper aims at iden- tifying key researchers and institutions, and examining the collaboration patterns in the field. We employ co-authorship network analysis at different levels to study the bibliographic information of 6 543 publications in social computing from 1998 to 2011. This paper gives a snapshot of the current re- search in social computing and can provide an initial guid- ance to new researchers in social computing.

Extremely popular and commonly adopted microblogging service is not only a new form of communication, but also seen as a place for "fueling" viral marketing. Due to essential openness and growing ubiquity, microblogsphere offers ways to manipulate the trending topics, through arranging a number of "messengers" who send messages and make a push on maximizing influence propagation. In this paper, we present an initial study on quantifying and characterizing the events referring to viral campaigns launched in microblogsphere. Our study is based on two independent data sets, one corresponds to an event referring to viral campaign and the other can be considered as not planned. We examine collectively dynamic response of the event referring to viral campaign, in comparison with the event not planed. We find the event referring to viral campaign exhibits different evolving pattern from the other event. Top users with extremely high yield of microblogs in the event referring to viral campaign has been proven to account for the exceptional pattern of dynamic response. We further investigate the individual dynamic response and calculate the centrality of top users for quantitative characterization of these users. This work aims to suggest insights into the evolving of events referring to the viral campaign launched in microblogsphere and the behavior pattern of top users in these events who may dominate the event evolving. © 2012 IEEE.
