Operating Statuses Identification (OSI) can help operators to find fault timely and minimize the loss. So it is of great significance for optimal operation of photovoltaic (PV) plants. The loss quantity of electricity (LQOE) is defined as that should have been generated but actually not, which is caused by inverter fault, PV modules fault, dust stratification or combinations of them. Firstly, mathematical models of PV cells are proposed to figure out the LQOE of each PV module. Secondly, after analysing the relation between LQOE and operating statuses, an index set of LQOE describing the distinction of different operating statuses are defined including four statistical feature parameters and a user-defined index. Thirdly, Support Vector Classification models for OSI (OSI-SVC) are built with input features extracted from the index set. Lastly, simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness and evaluate the performance of the OSI-SVC models. The results indicated that the operating statuses can be effectively recognized by the proposed model.

Based on the Chinese demonstration project of Zhangbei wind-photovoltaic-energy storage (W-PV-ES) hybrid generation, which is the world's biggest and Chinese first new energy utilization platform, the design of grounding system for W-PV-ES Hybrid power station was studied in this paper. Firstly according to the soil resistivity of that power station, measured by the Wenner four-electrode method, the soil constitution, that is three-level layer in summer and is four-level layer including an 1.5m high and 2000·m permafrost in winter, was got, and grounding grid models of W-PV-ES hybrid generation was studied. Then grounding system of that W-PV-ES station was designed, that was the single wind turbine uses concentric bicyclic earth electrode, whose radius are 7m and 10m, and the PV-ES power station uses one horizontal earth electrode every 10m in one direction, every 50m in another direction, and there are 2.5m long vertical grounding rods every 10m around the PV-ES station. For the substation, we adopt the horizontal grounding grid with a 10m interval between conductors and 0.8m burial depth. On the condition that earth current is 10KA, the earth's surface potential, contact potential, and step potential were simulated. After that safety of 35kV system and secondary system were analyzed, when there was short trouble. Finally influence on earth resistance by different grounding materials was studied, galvanized flat steel and copper material was presented as two kinds of selection schemes of grounding materials for considering economic considerations. © 2014 IEEE.

In vision-based tracking system, thresholding is one of the most important steps in image pre-processing. Thresholding algorithm has a strong influence on both accuracy and performance in object tracking. Thresholding algorithms are classified as global thresholding or local thresholding. In general, the computing power required for local thresholding algorithm is more than ten times that of global thresholding algorithm, so global thresholding algorithm is suitable for a real-time application. The Otsu's method is the most famous global thresholding algorithm, however, it misclassifies object as background in some cases. To reduce the misclassification problems, we apply the modified Otsu's method for indoor mobile robot tracking system. Experimental results show that applied algorithm improves the performance of thresholding results.

Trajectory tracking for autonomous vehicle is one of the field that researchers pay attention. The ultimate goal for trajectory tracking is to track the pre-defined path and follow the reference path with zero steady state error. The common modules for trajectory tracking field are reference generator, controller and plant. While most of the researchers are focusing on the controller development, less work has focused on the optimized reference generator. Optimized reference generator ensures the reference input to the controller is the optimized desired points in order to develop a good controller. Therefore, this work presents the reference generator algorithm that select the best point from the road coordinate profile before being send to the controller. The method is using the vehicle potential field and the modification from Dijkstra’s algorithm to generate the path. This algorithm is useful for trajectory tracking controller development. The algorithm is verified using simulation and experiment. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A novel fault integration method is proposed in this paper for manufacturing system models given in the form of timed colored Petri nets. The faults are assumed to have a stochastic nature and are represented in the form of transitions firing in stochastic way with known fault probabilities in the system model. A novel fault effect propagation method was also developed, that can be used to compute the probabilities of the possible faulty and non-faulty intermediate and final states of the system using the probabilities of faults and the occurrence graph. The faultless and fault containing models were implemented in CPNTools both for non-timed and timed cases. A software module was also developed for the proposed probabilistic fault propagation analysis. The proposed methods and tools were demonstrated using a simple case study.

A novel on-line diagnosis method is proposed in this paper that uses a qualitative dynamic model of the system and its colored Petri nets model. The model contains both the normal and the possible faulty operational modes of the system. The deviation between the normal and faulty modes is characterized based on P-HAZID tables. The actual system state can be searched on the occurrence graph constructed in advance. Starting from this node the possible consequences and root causes can be determined on-line with traversing on the graph. The proposed method is illustrated on simple case studies.

In the highway environment, many applications require localization. It is common to use the Global Positioning system (GPS) to find the current position, but GPS is easily influenced by the external environment and has many internal errors. Dead Reckoning (DR) is a common method for correcting the GPS position. However, the related applications do not have a notice system that can show the number of and distances to neighboring vehicles. In this paper, we design a map application on the Android operating system for vehicular networks. In this map application, the road map would be shown on a monitor, and the neighboring vehicles could also be drawn on this map. Users can easily understand the road conditions. Moreover, the application can exchange traffic information with other vehicles, and the map can also show the vehicles which are out of range. Furthermore, the application can show the time to collision between two vehicles. The experimental results will show the adjustment of position corrected by DR on Google Map, and the radar map on the Android operating system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

This paper discusses a new path tracking controller strategy for autonomous vehicle. Preliminary works done by researchers shows that most of the controller performs well in a straight path and normal curve. However, the problem arises in tight curve or discontinuous path. Therefore, this work aims to reduce the gap on the tight corner problem. The controller is designed based on the dynamic curvature estimation to predict the path condition and modify the wheel speed and steering wheel angle accordingly. In this technique, the curvature estimation algorithm is presented as a required input to the controller. The curvature estimation allows the vehicle to react based on the curvature profile and threshold region detection. The comparison is made based on three different path types. The experimental results on the autonomous prototype platform are discussed to show the effectiveness of the controller.

Recently, semiconductor and noble metal complex nanomaterials have attracted ever-increasing attention because of the realization of multiple functionalities in a single entity. In this study, Ag-TiO2 core-shell nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrolysis of butyl titanate on the surface of Ag nanowires. Due to efficient electron transfer at the Ag-TiO2 interface, the as-prepared nanocomposites exhibit much higher photocatalytic activity than bare TiO2 films, as demonstrated by the enhanced photodegradation rate of R6G and methyl blue molecules. In the meanwhile, such nanocomposites serve as a high-sensitivity surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for in situ monitoring of the photocatalytic decomposition reaction, and the substrate is recyclable due to its self-cleaning function. Full-wave numerical calculations reveal that the improved photocatalysis and SERS efficiencies are attributed to the largely enhanced electromagnetic near-field in the nanocomposites. Our results point out that bifunctional semiconductor-metal hybrids hold great promise for simultaneously detecting and decomposing organic pollutants in the environment. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.
