Cultural modeling is an emergent and promising research area in social computing. It aims to develop behavioral models of groups and analyze the impact of culture factors on group behavior using computational methods. Classification methods play a critical role in cultural modeling domain. As various cultural-related datasets possess different properties, for group behavior prediction, it is important to gain a computational understanding of the performance of various classification methods. In this paper, we investigate the performance of seven representative classification algorithms using a benchmark cultural modeling dataset and analyze the experimental results.

Cultural modeling is an emergent and promising research area in social computing. It aims at developing behavioral models of groups and analyzing the impact of culture factors on group behavior using computational methods. Machine learning methods in particular classification, play a central role in such applications. In cultural modeling, it is expected that classifiers yield good performance. However, the performance of standard classifiers is often severely hindered in practice due to the imbalanced distribution of class in cultural data. In this paper, we identify class imbalance problem in cultural modeling domain. To handle the problem, we propose a user involved solution employing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis for classification algorithms with sampling approaches. Finally, we conduct experiment to verify the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

A new type of data-driven control framework for non-Gaussian stochastic systems is established in this paper. Different from the traditional feedback style, the driven information for tracking problem is the statistic information set (SIS) of the output rather than the output value. The set of statistical information (including the moments and the entropy) or probability density functions (PDFs) of the output are the measured information and the controlled objective. Under this framework, a mixed two-step adaptive neural network (NN) modeling is established with combining a static NN for description of the statistic information or PDFs and a dynamic one for identification of the relationship between input and output weight vectors. An adaptive PI tracking controller based on the proposed dynamic NNs is designed so as to track a target stochastic distribution. Finally, simulation results on a model in paper-making processes are given to demonstrate the effectiveness.

Nonsingular terminal sliding mode guidance law

In order to intercept maneuvering targets, a guidance law based on nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) technique is presented. The proposed NTSM contains the line-of-sight (LOS) angular rate and a desired LOS angular. Through introducing the nonlinear sliding mode surface to improve the convergent characteristics of the system, the states of the closed-loop system can be converged to the origin in finite time and the system performance is improved greatly. The LOS angular rate is nullified in finite time to guarantee the zero miss-distance between the missile and the target;the LOS angular reaches the desired value in finite time to guarantee the missile attitude of hitting the target. With the maneuverability of acceleration of the target regarded as an unknown bounded disturbance, the proposed guidance law is robust to target maneuvering by using the invariance of the variable structure control. The guidance law has a simple structure and is easy to be implemented. Two cases of target maneuvering are simulated to validate the effectiveness of the method. The simulation results show that the algorithm has strong robustness and high guidance accuracy.

This paper deals with the robust iterative learning control(ILC) for time-delay systems(TDS) with both model and delay *** ILC algorithm with anticipation in time is considered,and a frequency-domain approach to its design is *** shows that a necessary and sufficient convergence condition can be provided in terms of three design parameters:the lead time,the learning gain,and the performance weighting *** particular,if the lead time is chosen as just the delay estimate,then the convergence condition is derived independent of the delay and the *** this case,with the selection of the performance weighting function,the perfect tracking can be achieved,or the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the limit tracking error can be guaranteed less than the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the initial tracking error.

This paper is concerned with the iterative learning control(ILC) problem for discrete-time systems with iterationvarying *** the so-called super-vector approach to ILC,the discrete domain bounded real lemma is employed to develop a sufficient condition ensuring both the stability and the desired H∞ performance of the ILC *** is shown that this sufficient condition can be presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs),which can also determine the learning gain matrix.A numerical simulation example is included to validate the theoretical results.

This paper presents a scientific strategy for cycling induced by the functional electrical stimulation. In order to simulate the FES-cycling movement produced by human body, a neuro-musculo-skeletal model containing 16 segments and 186 muscles is developed, which can simulate human movements precisely. This model contains mathematical model of electrically stimulated skeletal muscles. Having known the kinematics and dynamics of the model, we design an FES-cycling control system based on the central pattern generator (CPG), which can produce rhythm stimulus to produce desired torque and generate rhythm cycling movements. And an approach to control multiple muscles is proposed. In the end of this paper, the simulation results are provided.

The Least Squares (LS) problem has been popular in industrial modeling applications due to its speed, efficiency and simplicity. However, the LS solution is known to be unreliable when the data distribution is not Gaussian and is flat-tailed and such data anomalies occur frequently in the industry. The Least Absolute Value (LAV) problem overcomes these difficulties but at the expense of greatly increasing the complexity of the solution. This was partly addressed when it was shown that the LAV problem could be formulated as a Linear Programme (LP). However, the LP formulation is not suitable for implementation in all types of applications. In this paper, a very fast direct search algorithm is developed to solve the general dimension LAV problem using only elementary operations. The algorithm has been shown to be significantly faster than the LP approach through several experiments.

Ensuring system stability in medium-voltage DC (MVDC) integrated power systems (IPS) is a key issue, due to the presence of many shipboard electric users fed by constant power load (CPL) converters. This paper presents an innovative control system aimed at utilizing alternators, connected to the IPS through controlled AC-DC interface converters, to improve MVDC stable voltage control. Such system is designed to control, for each shipboard generator, the AC machine voltage, the prime mover speed and the interface converter, in an integrated way. Technological aspects and control principle scheme of this system will be presented in the paper, with particular reference to the issue of DC-link voltage stability. This system is expected to bring advantages in terms of MVDC IPS integration, stable parallel operation of generators and loads, safe exploitation of alternators capability as a source of stabilizing power.
