In this paper,the entrapping control problem of discrete-time AUVs with local coordinate frames is *** achieve entrapment in arbitrarily shaped orbits and formations,we design a bearingbased leader-following framework fully in the discrete-time domain with four parts:the orientation estimation unit,estimator unit,controller unit and parameters tuning *** bearing measurements and communication information,the orientation estimation unit can estimate orientations of local coordinate frames infinite time,and the estimator unit can achieve local *** on estimation,the controller unit can drive each AUV to track the desired orbit or formation with an arbitrary *** present su±cient conditions under which stability of the overall system is proved using the theorem offinite-time stability and LaSalle's theorem for the discrete-time ***,the parameters tuning unit can calculate optimal parameters to improve overall ***,we extend our schemes to nonholonomic AUVs with unicycle ***,simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

This paper explores the size-invariance of evaluation metrics in Salient Object Detection (SOD), especially when multiple targets of diverse sizes co-exist in the same image. We observe that current metrics are size-sensitive, where larger objects are focused, and smaller ones tend to be ignored. We argue that the evaluation should be size-invariant because bias based on size is unjustified without additional semantic information. In pursuit of this, we propose a generic approach that evaluates each salient object separately and then combines the results, effectively alleviating the imbalance. We further develop an optimization framework tailored to this goal, achieving considerable improvements in detecting objects of different sizes. Theoretically, we provide evidence supporting the validity of our new metrics and present the generalization analysis of SOD. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Autocorrelation Invariance Property of Chaos for Wireless Communication

A new feature of the chaotic signal generated by chaotic shape-forming filter (CSF) is uncovered in this work. We find that, the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the transmitting signal generated by CSF keeps the same as that of the base function of CSF, no matter what information is encoded. We derive the analytical equation to describe the relation between the ACF of the received signal and the wireless channel parameters using the ACF of the transmitted signal as prior knowledge revealed by the finding in this work. This new property can be utilized together with different wireless communication systems to improve the system performance. Specially, to demonstrate the improvement, channel state information (CSI) is identified using the chaotic baseband wireless communication as a paradigm. Two significant benefits by using the new property are 1) the CSI can be identified without the probe information known to the receiver as done in the conventional wireless communication systems, which improves the bandwidth efficiency, especially in the time-varying channel;2) the correlation operation is insensitive to the channel noise, which improves the identification accuracy as compared to the commonly used methods. In order to mitigate the adverse impact of denial of service (DoS) attacks, this work designs a parameter self-tuning controller based on fuzzy rules for vehicle platoons with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. Aiming at achieving the cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) of the vehicles with a required inter-vehicle distance and the same velocity, while considering the possible DoS attacks, we propose a parameter self-tuning longitudinal controller combining linear control and fuzzy control to enhance the stability and resilience of the platoon systems. Firstly, by analyzing the dynamic characteristics of vehicles and the mechanism of DoS attacks, we establish the dynamic model of vehicle platoons and model the impact of random DoS attacks as a constant data transmission delay, whose probability distribution can be defined using the Bernoulli random variable. Then, a linear controller based on fuzzy control is designed for longitudinal control to guarantee that the platoon keeps a reference velocity and the specified inter-vehicle distance under DoS attacks. Finally, thorough simulations are performed and the detailed results show the performance of the secure longitudinal control scheme for vehicle platoons in terms of stability and security.

The self-organized criticality is a fundamental property for organisms to perform normal functional activities. Extensive large-scale biological neural network researches have found the existence of self-organized criticality through avalanche phenomenon, which is typical characteristic of self-organized criticality. However, such research method is not suitable for small-scale biological neural network, because number of neurons in small-scale biological neural network is not large enough to support the emergence of avalanche phenomenon. It has been demonstrated that branching parameter can also be used to describe the propagation of activity in the neural network. Here, in this paper, the C. elegans neural network composed of 302 neurons is selected to investigate the existence of self-organized criticality using branching parameter. Based on the obtained connectome of C. elegans, a directed graph model is constructed to simulate the gradient potential of neurons and the activity of C. elegans, then, the existence of self-organized criticality in the neural network of C. elegans is proved by using branching parameter method. Meanwhile, the result is further confirmed by analyzing the calcium activity data of C. elegans obtained from biological experiments. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Binary system modes of matrix-coupled multidimensional Kuramoto oscillators

Synchronization and desynchronization are the two ends on the spectrum of emergent phenomena that somehow often coexist in biological, neuronal, and physical networks. However, previous studies essentially regard their coexistence as a partition of the network units: those that are in relative synchrony and those that are not. In real-world systems, desynchrony bears subtler divisions because the interacting units are high-dimensional, like fish schooling with varying speeds in a circle, synchrony and desynchrony may occur to the different dimensions of the population. In this work, we show with an ensemble of multidimensional Kuramoto oscillators, that this property is generalizable to arbitrary dimensions: for a d dimensional population, there exist 2d system modes where each dimension is either synchronized or desynchronized, represented by a set of almost binary order parameters. Such phenomena are induced by a matrix coupling mechanism that goes beyond the conventional scalar-valued coupling by capturing the inter-dimensional dependence amongst multidimensional individuals, which arises naturally from physical, sociological and engineering systems. As verified by our theory, the property of the coupling matrix thoroughly affects the emergent system modes and the phase transitions toward them. By numerically demonstrating that these system modes are interchangeable through matrix manipulation, we also observe explosive synchronization/desynchronization that is induced without the conditions that are previously deemed essential. Our discovery provides theoretical analogy to the cerebral activity where the resting state and the activated state coexist unihemispherically, it also evokes a new possibility of information storage in oscillatory neural networks. With the rapid development and widespread application of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), IMU-based human localization has become critically important in environments lacking Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) signals. Methods such as UWB/WIFI and other anchor-based localization have been employed to enhance the positioning accuracy. However, these methods are susceptible to the environmental interference and increased costs. In contrast, SINS-based localization methods eliminate reliance on the external data. However, this method can suffer from drift errors due to cumulative integration errors. Inertial navigation error correction techniques like Zero Detection Update Technology (ZUPT) provide potential solutions to address drift errors. This paper proposes an error correction method based on the multithreshold zero-velocity detection and Square Root Cubature Kalman Filter (SRCKF) updates. Compared to the single fixed threshold detection, the multi-threshold zero-velocity detection reduces the likelihood of missed zero velocity detection and false alarms, providing accurate time intervals for error correction. Experimental results demonstrate that the SRCKF-based algorithm reduces position deviation to approximately 0.3146 meters, corresponding to an error ratio of1.14%. The proposed method enables cost-effective and accurate pedestrian localization, driving advancements in the field. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, component parameters of the boost converter are identified online using a multiple updating recursive least squares (MURLS) algorithm. The component parameters, such as resistance, inductor inductance and capacitor capacitance, are obtained directly through the identification procedure rather than transfer function coefficients. The MURLS algorithm is applied to improve the rapidity of system identification compared to the traditional recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm, which is verified by a comparative simulation between MURLS and RLS and the simulation of a load-switching scenario.

Security issues are of significant importance for cyber-physical systems (CPS), where the attack design is a major concern. Most related studies on attack design implicitly consider that the control period and detection period are the same. However, the two periods could be different in practical systems with remote detection such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, which could lead to new vulnerabilities for attackers. In this paper, we consider the design of innovation-based linear attack strategies for CPS when the control period and detection period are inconsistent. Specifically, we propose an attack framework that consists of attack strategies for detection and non-detection instants under the period discrepancy. On this basis, we design the optimal stealthy innovation-based linear attack strategies for state estimation and LQG control to maximize the estimation error or control cost, respectively. Simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed attack strategies.
