This paper presents an efficient analytic method for a mobile robot to determine a collision-free trajectory with unified optimization. The robot kinodynamic constraints and the geometric constraints due to obstacles are addressed by considering a set of constrained inequalities from parameterized trajectories model. Two optimal performance matrices are employed to assess optimization problems. Particularly, both the constraints and performance functions are incorporated by similar forms in terms of trajectory parameters, which thereby can be considered in a uniform way. A parameter space of adjustable trajectory parameters is constructed to solve the unified optimization problem with constraints and results in more flexible and better optimal performance. The proposed approach is complete and enhances methods of deterministic real-time planning by overcoming typical drawbacks as intermediate configuration, curvature discontinuities, vertical singularities and incomplete optimization. Simulation results verify the validity and superiority of the proposed method.

In view of large range change of operating status of combustion process and difficulties in building global model and timely optimizing control parameters, this paper presents dynamic model based optimization control method using the property that just-in-time learning model can rapidly reflect process change characteristics. Based on the idea of local modeling, distance and change trend angle between samples are both considered to choose data and create an online sample library. With this dynamic sample library, a dynamic model for combustion process of coke oven is build. And based on the dynamic process model, the differential evolution algorithm is applied to optimization the universe parameters of fuzzy control to ensure the controller can meet the dynamic changes of the combustion process of coke oven. Simulations verified the effectiveness of the method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Swarm intelligence is an umbrella for amount optimization algorithms. This discipline deals with natural and artificial systems composed of many individuals that coordinate their activities using decentralized control and self-organization. In general, multi-agent systems that use some swarm intelligence are said to be swarm intelligent systems. They are mostly used as search engines and optimization tools. The goal of this special issue has been to offer a wide spectrum of sample works throughout the world about innovative methodologies of swarm intelligence. An adaptive sliding mode control scheme for electromechanical actuator has been presented. The adaptive control strategy can estimate the uncertain parameters and adaptively compensate the modeled dynamical uncertainties, while the sliding mode control method overcomes the unmodelled dynamics. In the adaptive law an equivalent output injection of the sliding mode observer which contains the parameter estimation error is used, and estimates of parameters can approximate the true values without prediction-error that is typically used in compositive adaptive law. Due to the improved estimation of uncertain parameters, the sliding mode law can robustifies the design against model uncertainties with a small swithcing gain. Stability of the system with the proposed approach has been proved and it has also been shown that the system states can reach the sliding mode in finite time. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme has been exhibited via simulation examples. © 2011 Asian control Association.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE. © 2011 Asian control Association.

The Non-Local Means (NLM) filter uses the redundancy of information in the image to remove noise, this scheme gives some of the best results among other powerful methods such as wavelet based approaches or diffusion techniques. Though simple to implement and efficient in practice, the classical NLM suffers from ringing artifacts around edges when using square patches, due to an abrupt lack of redundancy of the image. This paper presents an extended NLM based on Multi-Shape Patches Aggregation (NLM-MSPA) to overcome this problem, and uses it to remove medical ultrasound images corrupted by multiplicative speckle noise. We have incorporated a preprocessing step to make the speckle noise much closer to the real additive white Gaussian noise, hence more amenable to a denoising algorithm such as NLM-MSPA. Results on real images and artificially speckled images show that the proposed scheme outperforms several classical methods chosen for comparison in its ability to reduce speckle and preserve edge details.

This paper addresses a robust H∞ filtering problem for networked systems that are subject to both random transmission delays and packet dropouts. To start with, a data transmission model is established by employing random series with Bernoulli distributions. A sufficient condition for robust stability with H∞ constraints is derived for the filtering error system. The robust filter is designed in terms of the feasibility of a linear matrix inequality (LMI). The numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the data transmission model and the proposed filtering method. © 2011 AACC American Automatic control Council.
