Demand estimation of water resources based on algorithm comparison

Water is the source of life and the correct assessment of water resources is an important prerequisite for the rational utilisation of water resources. In this paper, water resources are evaluated and predicted by three different algorithms, including Bat Algorithm (BA), Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) and Pigeon-Inspired Optimisation (PIO). Comparing the errors of water resources assessed for the three algorithms, we select an algorithm of the minimum error to predict the future water demand. In the experiments, firstly, the water data from 2003 to 2012 are used to find the optimal weights of the models. Then, the weight factor is combined with the given model to gain the error between predicted value and the remaining data (2013–2015). Finally, the simulation results show that PIO algorithm has a better performance compared with the BA and PSO algorithms. Copyright © 2019 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Fault-Tolerant Cooperative Motion Planning of Connected and Automated Vehicles at a Signal-Free and Lane-Free Intersection

Compared with a conventional intersection, a signal-free and lane-free intersection enables the vehicles to drive more flexibly, thereby to promote the throughput and to reduce congestions. This work proposes a fault-tolerant cooperative motion planning method for a number of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) which are passing through a signal-free and lane-free intersection. Partial loss of actuator effectiveness is considered as the fault type. Even a subtle fault may significantly affect the overall team performance. Thus correctly judging whether each faulty/healthy CAV can still achieve its original goal is impossible until a corresponding motion replanning problem turns out to be solvable or not. To maximize the completeness of the original task, we propose a parallel computation framework, wherein the fault-recovery motion replanning problems in multiple levels of task completeness are tried simultaneously. Concretely, i) each faulty/healthy CAV should accomplish its original goal; ii) only each healthy CAV is required to accomplish its original goal; and iii) all the faulty/healthy CAVs try to stop safely without the need to achieve any original goals. Problems iii), ii), and i) are ranking with increasing computational difficulty. Among all the three problems, the achievable solution to the most difficult one is implemented as the fault-recovery strategy. © 2018

Three-phase four-leg four-wire voltage source inverter (3P4L4W VSI) attracts more attention in many power electronics applications due to its flexibility for both balanced and unbalanced loads, where the power efficiency is a critical point. Conventional Si semiconductor devices suffer from large switching loss due to large parasitic capacitances and thus limit its switching frequency. As a result, it further limits the power density and efficiency improvement. The SiC/Si hybrid switch formed by SiC-MOSFET and Si-IGBT in parallel (SiC/Si HyS) can improve the switching frequency with high efficiency and low cost, which helps to design a power converter with high power density and high efficiency. However, the application of SiC/Si HyS in 3P4L4W faces some challenges, such as the drive circuit design, the proper delay selection, etc.. In this paper, a SiC/Si HyS based 3P4L4W VSI is introduced and the optimal turn-off time delay selection for the SiC/Si HyS used in 3P4L4W VSI is analyzed. A systematical way to calculate the power loss in the SiC/Si HyS is presented. A 5-kW/50kHz 3P4L4W VSI is taken as an example for validating the theory and method. It is found the peak efficiency of the 3P4L4W VSI is 97.5%, and the unbalanced phase load leads to more power loss and degrade the efficiency. The work in this paper provides practical guidance for a SiC/Si HyS based 3P4L4W VSI inverter design.

Recent object detection models have achieved satisfactory performance by deep learning with large-scale annotated datasets. However, these models often perform poorly when the training examples are not sufficient enough, especially for one-shot object detection where there is only one training example of each target class. In this paper, we propose a network parameter generation framework for effective one-shot object detection. By leveraging the semantic relationship between the source-domain and the target-domain (new classes), our framework can generate network parameters for the new classes directly. Furthermore, we develop two implementation schemes for this framework: weighting-based parameter generation and regression-based parameter generation. These two schemes use different information to construct the relationship and transfer knowledge from the source-domain to the target-domain. Experiments on the PASCAL-OSCD benchmark show that our methods can significantly boost the performance of one-shot object detection. © 2019 IEEE.

Ripple-Oriented Degree Distribution of Rateless Codes: A Backward Design Approach for Finite Block Lengths

Rateless codes are a class of error correction codes designed for efficient and reliable data transmission. Luby transform (LT) codes are the first realization of rateless codes. The degree distribution is crucial for the performance of LT codes, but the existing degree distributions do not perform well in finite block lengths, especially in short block lengths. Different from the forward design, such as robust soliton distribution (RSD), we provide a backward design of degree distribution for LT codes in finite block lengths, which starts from the detailed design of ripple size evolution and then arrives at the corresponding degree distribution. This design pattern addresses the limitation of the traditional forward design that cannot guarantee a high probability of successful decoding under finite block lengths. Specifically, we argue that the ripple should increase and then decrease during the decoding process by analyzing the trade-off between redundancy and ripple disappearance. Therefore, a new random walk model is proposed based on adjustable release probability to describe the ideal ripple size evolution. Furthermore, we present a novel design framework to achieve the desired ripple size evolution and the resulting degree distribution is called ripple-oriented degree distribution (RODD). Simulation results show that RODD is superior to other degree distributions in decoding success rate, block error rate, complexity, etc. 1967-2012 IEEE.

An improved distributed nonlinear observer for leader-following consensus via differential geometry approach

This paper is concerned with the leader-following output consensus problem in the framework of distributed nonlinear observers. In stead of certain hypotheses on the leader system, a group of geometric conditions is put forward to develop a novel distributed observer strategy with less conservatism, thereby definitely improving the applicability of the existing results. To be more specific, the improved distributed observer can precisely handle consensus problems for some nonlinear leader systems which are invalid for the traditional strategies with the certain assumption, such as Elastic Shaft Single Linkage Manipulator (ESSLM) systems and most of first-order nonlinear systems. We prove the sufficient conditions for the exponential stability of our distributed observer's error dynamic by proposing two pioneered lemmas to show the relationship between the maximum eigenvalues of two matrices appearing in Lyapunov type matrices. Then, a partial feedback linearization method with zero dynamic proposed in differential geometry is employed to design a purely decentralized control law for the affine nonlinear multiagent system. With this advancement, the existing results can be regarded as a specific case owing to that the followers can be chosen as an arbitrary minimum phase affine smooth nonlinear system. At last, the novel distributed observer and the improved purely decentralized control law are applied in the distributed control framework to construct a closed-loop system. We also prove the stability of closed-loop system to achieve leader-following consensus, i.e., the distributed control framework is proved to satisfy certainty equivalence principle. This work investigates the coordinated motion control and obstacle-crossing problem for a four wheel-leg independent motor-driven robotic system via a model predictive control (MPC) approach based on an event-triggering mechanism. The modeling of a wheel-leg robotic control system with a dynamic supporting polygon is organized. The system dynamic model is 3 degrees of freedom ignoring the pitch, roll, and vertical motions. The single wheel dynamic is analyzed considering the characteristics of the motor-driven and the Burckhardt nonlinear tire model. As a result, an over-actuated predictive model is proposed with the motor torques as inputs and the system states as outputs. As the supporting polygon is only adjusted at certain conditions, an event-based triggering mechanism is designed to save hardware resources and energy. The MPC controller is evaluated on a virtual prototype as well as a physical prototype. The simulation results guide the parameter tuning for the controller implementation in the physical prototype. The experimental results on these two prototypes verify the efficiency of the proposed approach. © 2020, CC BY.

In this paper, a novel approach combining Q-learning method and two-stage optimization is proposed to solve linear quadratic tracking(LQT) problem for unknown discrete-time switched system. An augmented system consisting of switched subsystem and reference trajectory is built and Q-learning method is introduced to identify each subsystem without requiring any knowledge of augmented system state dynamics. Then, based on the optimal control laws for each subsystem obtained by Q-learning in advance, the optimal hybrid control law including switching mode and control input is obtained by the two-stage optimization framework. Furthermore, the optimality of the algorithm is proved. Finally, a simulation case is used to testify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Forest fire detection has great practical significance in actual production and ***, many current solutions are still not reliable in practice and usually affected by many *** paper presents a forest fire detection method based on deep learning approach using aerial images taken by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs).We train a full image fire classifier by exploiting YOLOv3, a latest fast and accurate real-time object detection algorithm using deep learning neural ***, the feature map of a certain size is obtained by feature extraction network, such as 13×*** the input image is divided into 13×13 grid ***, if the central coordinate of an object in the ground truth falls in a grid cell, the grid cell will predict the object, because each grid cell will predict a fixed number of bounding *** the largest bounding box with ground truth IOU(Intersection Over Union) is used to predict *** fire patch detector developed in this paper obtains 91% mAP(mean Average Precision) on the data sets used and the FPS(Frames Per Second) average can reach 80.
