Theorems and Application of Local Activity of CNN with Five state Variables and One Port

Coupled nonlinear dynamical systems have been widely studied recently. However, the dynamical properties of these systems are difficult to deal with. The local activity of cellular neural network (CNN) has provided a powerful tool for studying the emergence of complex patterns in a homogeneous lattice, which is composed of coupled cells. In this paper, the analytical criteria for the local activity in reaction-diffusion CNN with five state variables and one port are presented, which consists of four theorems, including a serial of inequalities involving CNN parameters. These theorems can be used for calculating the bifurcation diagram to determine or analyze the emergence of complex dynamic patterns, such as chaos. As a case study, a reaction-diffusion CNN of hepatitis B Virus (HBV) mutation-selection model is analyzed and simulated, the bifurcation diagram is calculated. Using the diagram, numerical simulations of this CNN model provide reasonable explanations of complex mutant phenomena during therapy. Therefore, it is demonstrated that the local activity of CNN provides a practical tool for the complex dynamics study of some coupled nonlinear systems.

Reinforcement learning aims to obtain optimal/suboptimal strategy through trial-and-error and interaction with dynamic environment. After an introduction of basic knowledge of reinforcement learning, TD algorithm, Q-learning algorithm, Dyna algorithm and Sarsa algorithm base on Markov decision model are discussed, respectively. Moreover, reinforcement learning based on partially observable Markov decision process and semi-Markov decision model for uncertain environment are analyzed, respectively. The research status of Q learning in the field of multi-robot systems is also presented. Finally, the main challenges and further research work are given.

Stripe-based wireless sensor networks can be deployed in many scenarios, such as roads, bridges, tunnels and metros. The deployment of this type of networks must he considered in detailed because the network is characterized by the long distance and narrow width. The paper gives an analysis of balanced energy consumption deployment of this network. The discussion is presented according to two type of width of network. The main factors which affect the network lifetime are analyzed in detailed and the simulation is presented. The simulation result shows that the short width of networks has little effect on network lifetime. Also, the maximum network lifetime can not be reached when the nodes have short communication radius. The network lifetime can be affected by the long width of networks. The network lifetime can be maximized when the nodes have long communication range.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is an effective way to improve urban traffic status. But, because of its complexity, it is difficult in its operation management and scheduling. In this article, based on ACP approach, Parallel BRT system is constructed, which can detect real-time passenger flow at stations, traffic flow at stations and intersections and queuing length of vehicles on the road;to provide short-term passenger and traffic saturation prediction in order to timely arrange transportation management and relieve congestion;to assess, improve and optimize the emergency management of holidays, events, accidents and other emergencies;to improve the quality of real-time scheduling functions based on the measurement results detected from videos, and so on. This system has been applied in Guangzhou Zhongshan Avenue BRT, which was applied for BRT's monitoring, warning, forecasting, emergency management, real-time scheduling and other needs, to guarantee BRT's smooth, safety, efficiency and reliability.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have mapped risk alleles for at least 10 distinct cancers to a small region of 63 000 bp on chromosome 5p15.33. This region harbors the TERT and CLPTM1L genes;the former encodes the catalytic subunit of telomerase reverse transcriptase and the latter may play a role in apoptosis. To investigate further the genetic architecture of common susceptibility alleles in this region, we conducted an agnostic subset-based meta-analysis (association analysis based on subsets) across six distinct cancers in 34 248 cases and 45 036 controls. Based on sequential conditional analysis, we identified as many as six independent risk loci marked by common single-nucleotide polymorphisms: five in the TERT gene (Region 1: rs7726159, P = 2.10 x 10(-39);Region 3: rs2853677, P = 3.30 x 10(-36) and P-Conditional = 2.36 x 10(-8);Region 4: rs2736098, P = 3.87 x 10(-12) and P-Conditional = 5.19 x 10(-6), Region 5: rs13172201, P = 0.041 and P-Conditional = 2.04 x 10(-6);and Region 6: rs10069690, P = 7.49 x 10 215 and P-Conditional = 5.35 x 10(-7)) and one in the neighboring CLPTM1L gene(Region 2: rs451360;P = 1.90 x 10(-18) and P-Conditional = 7.06 x 10(-16)). Between three and five cancers mapped to each independent locus with both risk-enhancing and protective effects. Allele-specific effects on DNA methylation were seen for a subset of risk loci, indicating that methylation and subsequent effects on gene expression may contribute to the biology of risk variants on 5p15.33. Our results provide strong support for extensive pleiotropy across this region of 5p15.33, to an extent not previously observed in other cancer susceptibility loci.

Radio fingerprint matching localization method promises high localization accuracy but requires extensive infrastructural effort and search operations. This paper proposes a new search strategy for radio fingerprint matching method, which sharply reduces search operations and shows little effect on localization accuracy. Indoor experiment is conducted to evaluate our method. © 2011 IEEE.

Recent neuroimaging studies have shown that the cognitive and memory decline in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) is coupled with abnormal functions of focal brain regions and disrupted functional connectivity between distinct brain regions, as well as losses in small-world attributes. However, the causal interactions among the spatially isolated, but functionally related, resting state networks (RSNs) are still largely unexplored. In this study, we first identified eight RSNs by independent components analysis from resting state functional MRI data of 18 patients with AD and 18 age-matched healthy subjects. We then performed a multivariate Granger causality analysis (mGCA) to evaluate the effective connectivity among the RSNs. We found that patients with AD exhibited decreased causal interactions among the RSNs in both intensity and quantity relative to normal controls. Results from mGCA indicated that the causal interactions involving the default mode network and auditory network were weaker in patients with AD, whereas stronger causal connectivity emerged in relation to the memory network and executive control network. Our findings suggest that the default mode network plays a less important role in patients with AD. Increased causal connectivity of the memory network and self-referential network may elucidate the dysfunctional and compensatory processes in the brain networks of patients with AD. These preliminary findings may provide a new pathway towards the determination of the neurophysiological mechanisms of AD. Copyright (c) 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

An average consensus protocol is proposed for discrete-time double-integrator multi-agent systems with communication noises under fixed topologies. The proposed consensus protocol is composed of two parts: the agent's own state feedback and the relative states between the agent and its neighbor agents. Due to the existence of communication noises, the relative states cannot be obtained accurately. To attenuate the noise effect, a time-varying consensus gain a(k) is applied to the relative states in the proposed protocol. Hence, the closed-loop dynamics of multi-agent systems is a linear stochastic difference equation with variable coefficients. Fortunately, the state transition matrix of this stochastic system can be solved, and the dynamical behavior of linear multi-agent systems can therefore be determined. It is proved that the proposed protocol is able to solve the mean square average consensus problem if and only if the topology graph is connected;and the time-varying gain a(k) satisfies the stochastic-approximation type conditions (Omission)。
