Traditional sparse coding has been successfully applied in texture and image classification in the past years. Yet such kind of method neglects the influence of the signs of coding coefficients, which may cause information loss in the sequential max pooling. In this paper, we propose a novel coding strategy for ground-based cloud classification, which is named soft-signed sparse coding. In our method, a constraint on the signs is explicitly added to the objective function of traditional sparse coding model, which can effectively regulate the ratio between the number of positive and negative non-zero coefficients. As a result, the proposed method can not only obtain low reconstruction error but also consider the influence of the signs of coding coefficients. The strategy is verified on two challenging cloud datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of our method compared with previous ones.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is an effective way to increase urban traffic capacity. But its operation and scheduling optimization are difficult. In this article, Parallel BRT Operation management System (PBOMS) is constructed based on ACP approach. It can detect the passenger's quantity on station platforms in real-time, traffic flow besides stations or at intersections, and the queuing length of vehicles on the road lines. It can provide short-term passenger and traffic saturation prediction in order to arrange transportation management more accurately to relieve the congestion. It can assess, improve and optimize the emergency management during holidays, public events, accidents and other emergency situations. It can improve the quality of real-time scheduling functions by using the measurement results detected from traffic videos, and so on. This system has been piloted in Guangzhou Zhongshan Avenue BRT, which was applied for BRT's monitoring, warning, forecasting, emergency management, real-time scheduling and other purposes, to improve Guangzhou BRT's smoothness, safety, efficiency and reliability.

In this paper, we solve the H ∞ control problems for discrete-time affine nonlinear systems with known dynamics. An iterative heuristic dynamic programming algorithm is derived and the convergence analysis is provided. Three neural networks are used to approximate the control policy, the disturbance policy, and the value function, respectively. A simulation example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In the literature of human action recognition, despite promising results have been obtained by the traditional bag-of-words model, the relationship among spatiotemporal points has rarely been considered. Furthermore, serious quantization error also exists in this kind of strategy. In this paper, we propose a novel coding strategy named contextual Fisher kernels to overcome these limitations. We add a Gaussian function to represent contextual information into the generative model. In this way, our method explicitly considers the spatio-temporal contextual relationships between interest points and alleviates quantization error. Our method is verified on two challenging datasets (KTH and UCF sports), and the experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves better results than the state-of-the-art methods in human action recognition.

One of challenges in GIS Web service is mass GIS data storage and processing. There are at least three obstacles that oppose dealing with this challenge: the mismatch between the frequent requirement of concurrent tasks for accessing data in GIS Web service and the poor performance of conventional storage mechanism such as relational databases;the insufficiency of relational databases to manage complex data types in GIS Web service;the horizontal scalability of storage for non-stop GIS Web service evolution. This paper proposes a distributed cached storage solution, as the mixture of MongoDB storage and Memcached cache, for GIS Web service. Both techniques are closely related to NoSQL that is a class of database management system identified by its non-adherence to the widely used relational database management system (RDBMS) model. A concise case that facilitates a better understanding of this work indicates its feasibility.

In this paper we propose a regularized relaxation based graph matching algorithm. The graph matching problem is formulated as a constrained convex quadratic program, by relaxing the permutation matrix to a doubly stochastic one. To gradually push the doubly stochastic matrix back to a permutation one, a simple weighted concave regular term is added to the convex objective function. The concave regular function is not a concave relaxation of the original matching problem. However, it is shown that such a simple concave regular term has a comparative performance as the concave relaxation of the PATH following algorithm, which works only on undirected graphs. A concave-convex procedure (CCCP) together with the Frank-Wolfe algorithm is adopted to solve the matching problem, and some experimental results witness the state-of-art performance of the proposed algorithm.

This paper investigates the problem of designing a distributed H-infinity fuzzy controller with constraint for a class of nonlinear spatially distributed processes modeled by first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs). The purpose of this paper is to design a distributed fuzzy state feedback controller such that the closed-loop PDE system is exponentially stable with a prescribed H-infinity performance of disturbance attenuation, while the control constraint is respected. Initially, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) hyperbolic PDE model is proposed to accurately represent the nonlinear PDE system. Then, based on the T-S fuzzy PDE model, a distributed H-infinity fuzzy controller design with constraint is developed in terms of a set of coupled differential/algebraic linear matrix inequalities (D/ALMIs) in space. Furthermore, a suboptimal distributed H-infinity fuzzy controller with constraint is proposed to minimize the level of attenuation. The finite difference method in space and the existing linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization techniques are employed to approximately solve the suboptimal fuzzy control design problem. Finally, the proposed design method is applied to the distributed control of a nonlinear system described by two coupled first-order hyperbolic PDEs to illustrate its effectiveness. This paper addresses the system design and locomotion control for a versatile amphibious robot, AmphiRobot-II, inspired by various amphibian principles in the animal kingdom. In terms of the propulsion features of existing amphibians, a novel hybrid propulsive mechanism coupled with wheel-propeller-fin movements is proposed that integrates fish- or dolphin-like swimming and wheel-based crawling. The robot is able not only to implement flexible wheel-based movements on land, but also to perform steady and efficient fish-or dolphin-like swimming under water and can further switch between these two patterns via a specialized swivel device. To achieve multimodal motions, a body deformation steering approach is proposed for the turning locomotion on land with minimum turning radius obtained accordingly. A central pattern generator inspired underwater locomotion control is also implemented and tested on the physical robot. Based on the aforementioned design, the AmphiRobot-II prototype has been built and has successfully demonstrated to confirm the effectiveness of the hybrid propulsive scheme and the amphibious control approaches.
