Point Cloud Classification Using Content-Based Transformer via Clustering in Feature Space

Recently, there have been some attempts of Transformer in 3D point cloud classification. In order to reduce computations, most existing methods focus on local spatial attention,but ignore their content and fail to establish relationships between distant but relevant points. To overcome the limitation of local spatial attention, we propose a point content-based Transformer architecture, called PointConT for short. It exploits the locality of points in the feature space(content-based), which clusters the sampled points with similar features into the same class and computes the self-attention within each class, thus enabling an effective trade-off between capturing long-range dependencies and computational complexity. We further introduce an inception feature aggregator for point cloud classification, which uses parallel structures to aggregate high-frequency and low-frequency information in each branch separately. Extensive experiments show that our PointConT model achieves a remarkable performance on point cloud shape classification. Especially, our method exhibits 90.3% Top-1 accuracy on the hardest setting of ScanObjectN N. Source code of this paper is available at https://***/yahuiliu99/PointC onT.

Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft has gained significant attention as a basic element of urban air mobility (UAM), a potential solution for urban transportation challenges using low-altitude urban airspace. Ensuring the safe operation of eVTOL is crucial for UAM applications, which are related to various professional fields such as aerodynamics, control, structures, and power systems. This article systematically analyzes the characteristics of different design configurations, including multi-rotor, lift+cruise, and tilt-rotor types of eVTOL. The advantages and limitations of each type of eVTOL are analyzed. After that, the overall design problems are analyzed, and challenges of eVTOL control system design are discussed from aspects of overall control structure and subsystems, such as controller, sensors, actuators, and command generator. This article tries to fill the gap in the eVTOL design from a control perspective and provides some resolutions for the eVTOL application. IEEE

The rise of Artificial Intelligence for Science (AI4S) has highlighted the importance and urgency of ensuring open-ness, fairness, impartiality, diversity, and sustainability in scientific systems. Existing scientific systems, referred to as Centralized Science (CeSci), are built on centralized organizational structures and top-down institutional frameworks, which are lagging behind the development and practical requirements of AI4S. To address these limitations, AI4S needs to embrace a new scientific organizational and operational paradigm, namely Decentralized Science (DeSci). It can provide strong support to AI4S via effectively addressing issues such as information silos, biases, unfair distribution, and monopolies and promoting multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and trans disciplinary cooperation in science. Based on these considerations, this paper presents the framework of AI4S based on DeSci and explores its potential application scenarios and research issues. The research can provide effective guidance for the development of scientific systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Integrating Relational Knowledge With Text Sequences for Script Event Prediction

Script event prediction aims to infer subsequent events given an incomplete script. It requires a deep understanding of events, and can provide support for a variety of tasks. Existing models rarely consider the relational knowledge between events, they regard scripts as sequences or graphs, which cannot capture the relational information between events and the semantic information of script sequences jointly. To address this issue, we propose a new script form, relational event chain, that combines event chains and relational graphs. We also introduce a new model, relational-transformer, to learn embeddings based on this new script form. In particular, we first extract the relationship between events from an event knowledge graph to formalize scripts as relational event chains, then use the relational-transformer to calculate the likelihood of different candidate events, where the model learns event embeddings that encode both semantic and relational knowledge by combining transformers and graph neural networks (GNNs). Experimental results on both one-step inference and multistep inference tasks show that our model can outperform existing baselines, indicating the validity of encoding relational knowledge into event embeddings. The influence of using different model structures and different types of relational knowledge is analyzed as well.

In recent years,the introduction of Siamese network has brought new vitality to the object tracking ***,high-performance Siamese trackers cannot run at a real-time speed on mobile devices due to their complex and huge *** distillation is a common and effective model compression method,but it is difficult to be applied to the challenging task like object *** find out the fundamental cause is that the imbalance between the foreground and background in the object tracking task,which aggravates the problem of insufficient feature extraction ability of small ***,we propose the attention mask distillation(AMD) to help the student tracker focus on the foreground area faster and more *** attention mask can be easily obtained from the feature maps and brings fine-granularity to the traditional binary *** experimental results on OTB100 and VOT2018 show that our method enables the student tracker perform as well as the teacher *** the same time,it's able to run on the CPU at a hyper-real-time of 66 fps and achieves nearly 9 times model compression *** low computational and storage costs make it possible to deploy high-performance trackers on resource-constrained platforms.

This study investigates the consensus control issue in discrete-time linear multi-agent systems(MASs) using data-driven control under undirected communication networks. To alleviate the communication burden, an adaptive event-triggered control strategy involving only local information is proposed and a model-based stability condition is derived that guarantees the asymptotic consensus of MASs. Furthermore,a data-based consensus condition for unknown MASs is established by combining a data-based system representation with the model-based stability condition, using only pre-collected noisy input-state data instead of the accurate system information a priori. Specifically, both model-based and data-driven event-triggered controllers can be utilized without requiring any global information. The validity and correctness of the controllers and associated theoretical results are demonstrated via numerical simulations.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising technology to tailor complex structures in a layer-by-layer fashion. Its wide adoption, however, is hampered by occurrence of defects that deteriorates product quality. Defect detection methods have therefore been developed to address quality issues, primarily utilizing deep learning models. Despite achieving appreciable results, these models require a substantial amount of labeled data and extensive training, which are costly and time-consuming. Thus, it is worth developing a new approach that can perform defect detection (1) with minimal labeled data, and (2) without the necessity for model updating. Recently, the large language model (LLM) has demonstrated remarkable generalization capability across various fields. It features an in-context learning (ICL) capability that allows it to learn from a context without any retraining. This study explores the potential of applying an LLM for AM defect detection based on ICL. To this end, a dataset pertaining to the resin deposition status in vat photopolymerization, as a field where prevailing LLMs have limited exposure, is collected. Two contributions are made to achieve more accurate defect detection by prompting. First, a multimodal context that includes both image-label pairs and expert knowledge is tailored, which contains comprehensive information about deposition status. Second, a repeated query and voting (RQV) technique is proposed to mitigate occasional misjudgements, thus enhancing the reliability of the defect detection. Comprehensive ablation studies verify the effectiveness of both the multimodal context and RQV technique. As a result, 96.2% classification accuracy is achieved in such a challenging few-shot setting, obviating the need of model updating. © 2024 IEEE.
