Microtask crowdsourcing has become an appealing approach to collecting large-scale high-quality labeled data across a wide range of domains. As the crowd workers may be unreliable, the most fundamental question is how to aggregate the noisy annotations provided by these potentially unreliable workers. Although various factors such as worker reliability and task features are considered in the literature, they are not meaningfully combined in a unified and consistent framework. In this work, we propose a semi-crowdsourced deep generative approach called S-DARFC which combines Bayesian graphical models and deep learning techniques and unifies factors including the worker reliability, task features, task clustering structure, and semi-crowdsourcing. Graphical models are good at finding a structure that is interpretable and generalizes to new tasks easily and deep learning techniques are able to learn a flexible representation of complex high-dimensional unstructured data (e.g., task features). Extensive experiments based on six real-world tasks including text and image classification demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With a growing complexity of the intelligent traffic system (ITS), an integrated control of ITS that is capable of considering plentiful heterogeneous intelligent agents is desired. However, existing control methods based on the centralized or the decentralized scheme have not presented their competencies in considering the optimality and the scalability simultaneously. To address this issue, we propose an integrated control method based on the framework of Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). The proposed method achieves a global consensus on energy consumption efficiency (ECE), meanwhile to optimize the local objectives of all involved intelligent agents, through a consensus and incentive mechanism. Furthermore, an operation algorithm is proposed regarding the issue of structural rigidity in DAO. Specifically, the proposed operation approach identifies critical agents to execute the smart contract in DAO, which ultimately extends the capability of DAO-based control. In addition, a numerical experiment is designed to examine the performance of the proposed method. The experiment results indicate that the controlled agents can achieve a consensus faster on the global objective with improved local objectives by the proposed method, compare to existing decentralized control methods. In general, the proposed method shows a great potential in developing an integrated control system in the ITS.

Endowing robots with tool manipulation skills helps them accomplish challenging tasks. While robots manipulate tools to achieve goals, the alignment of tools and targets is a noise-sensitive and contact-rich task. However, it is difficult to access the accurate pose of the tool and the target. When there is unknown noise in the observations, reinforcement learning can't be sure to perform well. In this paper, we define the easier-to-obtain accurate task-related information as anchor information and introduce a tool manipulation method based on reinforcement learning and anchor information, which can perform well when the observations include unknown noise. To evaluate the method, we build a simulated environment ToolGym, which includes four different kinds of tools and different noise sampling functions for each tool. Finally, we compare our method with baseline methods to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Grasping the target object is an essential requirement for the robot to provide better services. It becomes complicated especially in cluttered environments, which still remains challenging. This paper proposes a grasping chain generation solution that enables the robot to grasp the target after other obstruction objects are moved in a good order. SSD is firstly adopted to acquire the information of detectable objects and then Euclidean clustering is employed to obtain the untrained objects. After that, the minimum bounding box of each object is obtained, which is then projected on the plane and represented by a smooth differentiable minimum ellipse. On this basis, an information density kernel function is designed to express the interaction between objects. By abstracting each ellipse as a node of the graph whose edge weight is calculated by this kernel function, the whole scene is described in a form of graph. To simplify the complexity of the scene graph, we use spectral clustering algorithm to classify the objects, and the task-oriented objects graph is constructed according to the objects closely related to the target one. As a result, the searching space is reduced. With space division of task-oriented objects graph, each candidate grasping chain is iteratively extended by using the heuristic searching and the best chain with the shortest length is determined. The proposed method can deal with secondary obstruction and its effectiveness is testified by experiments.

Automatically recognizing surgical gestures plays a key role in computer-assisted surgery and automatic skill assessment. Solutions to this task that only rely on video without additional sensor hardware have attracted great attention since they are economical and feasible. However, it is still a challenging problem due to the variable gesture durations and the oversegmentation problem that occurred in a long gesture duration. To address the above problems, we propose a cascade network with boundary-adaptive filter to dynamically capture the long-range temporal dependencies and reduce the over-segmentation errors obviously. A cascade module is designed to enhance the temporal modeling abilities in different timescales, in which multiple similar temporal convolution networks are divided into cascade stages and a fusion stage. Every cascade stage with different temporal receptive fields has a frame-specific weight to adjust the distribution of each stage and they will be aggregated into the fusion stage to refine the predictions. The frame-specific model architecture may incur a more serious over-segmentation problem. A boundary-adaptive filter is designed to leverage gesture boundary information to smooth the prediction results adaptively, which maintains consistency within a gesture duration while keeping the gesture-crossing discrepancy. We evaluate our model on the JHU-ISI Gesture and Skill Assessment Working Set (JIGSAWS). The proposed method reaches the state-of-the-art frame-wise accuracy (83.79%) and comparable segment-level performance (83.35% F1@50). © 2021 IEEE.

Networked Traffic Signal control (NTSC) is a fundamental component of Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) and the broader vision of smart city development. While a plethora of intelligent strategies have been developed, the Sim2Real challenge often impedes their full realization. In response, this paper introduces the Parallel Learning-based Adaptive Network for Traffic Signal control (PLANT) as a foundation model for NTSC. We employ the Wasserstein GAN with Gradient Penalty (WGAN-GP) to generate a wide range of artificial scenarios for robust PLANT training. Further, the Transformer-based Cooperation Mechanism (TCM) is integrated as the primary learner within PLANT, facilitating effective capture of traffic dynamics and knowledge accumulation. This knowledge is readily transferable to real-world applications through meticulous fine-tuning, equipping PLANT to adapt and evolve in alignment with shifting transportation paradigms. Our empirical study on the Hangzhou road network demonstrates PLANT's superiority over both traditional and emerging DRL-based approaches, emphasizing its viability as a potential foundation model for NTSC.

Crowdsourcing is a critical technology in social manufacturing, which leverages an extensive and boundless reservoir of human resources to handle a wide array of complex tasks. The successful execution of these complex tasks relies on task decomposition (TD) and allocation, with the former being a prerequisite for the latter. Recently, pre-trained language models (PLMs)based methods have garnered significant attention. However, they are constrained to handling straightforward common-sense tasks due to their inherent restrictions involving limited and difficult-to-update knowledge as well as the presence of "hallucinations". To address these issues, we propose a retrieval-augmented generation-based crowdsourcing framework that reimagines TD as event detection from the perspective of natural language understanding. However, the existing detection methods fail to distinguish differences between event types and always depend on heuristic rules and external semantic analyzing tools. Therefore, we present a Prompt-Based Contrastive learning framework for TD (PBCT), which incorporates a prompt-based trigger detector to overcome dependence. Additionally, trigger-attentive sentinel and masked contrastive learning are introduced to provide varying attention to trigger and contextual features according to different event types. Experiment results demonstrate the competitiveness of our method in both supervised and zero-shot detection. A case study on printed circuit board manufacturing is showcased to validate its adaptability to unknown professional domains. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The concept of metaverses has received extensive attention recently and cyber-physical-social systems (CPSS) is its academic foundation. In almost all the applications of metaverses, the sensing system is an essential part and intelligent sensing capacity must be provided. However, due to the insufficient consideration of human factors in most of the studies, digital twins' sensing in cyber-physical systems cannot achieve smart sensing in metaverses. For this reason, a novel framework for intelligent sensing in metaverses, MetaSensing, is proposed based on parallel intelligence in CPSS. Within the framework of MetaSensing, there are four states of sensing: physical sensing, descriptive sensing, predictive sensing, and prescriptive sensing. To protect sensors' data privacy in metaverses, DAO-based decentralized sensing is introduced as a mechanism of the operation and maintenance for smart sensing industries.

In this paper, a cascade control framework is proposed a class of remote operated vehicles (ROVs) to enhance the control performance and capacity of interference resistance. Specifically, the control framework is composed of a fuzzy-based controller in primary loop and a PID neural network based controller in secondary loop. In the primary loop, fuzzy controller is implemented to avoid precise establishment of ROV model for calculating the expected velocity of the vehicle. Furthermore, in the secondary loop, a PID neural network with adaptation is adopted to accomplish the capacity of resisting disturbance. Eventually, the control framework is verified by theoretical and simulation analyses. The obtained results indicate that the proposed cascade control framework endows the ROV with the ability to guarantee the control performance and attenuate external disturbance effectively. © 2020 IEEE.
