To investigate the influences of performance management rules on human behavior in a chemical plant workshop, we construct an artificial workshop. It mainly contains human behavior model, workshop environment model including the definition of work position performance management rules and production events, and their interaction rules. The human behavior model is built based on DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance) behavior model and the Agent technology. A platform for workshop human behavior computing is finally created for computational experiments on performance management and decision-making. The platform can be used as a support for refined management in the chemical plant. © 2012 IEEE.

Considering the linear wireless sensor network application scenarios, such as road, bridge, tunnel and metro where linear network and multi-hop traffic pattern make the energy consumption unbalanced. The nodes near the base station are required to forward the large amount of traffic for other nodes, which exhausts their energy and results in the failure of network monitoring. In order to solve this problem, a linear wireless sensor network and uniform deployment strategy are considered and an optimal scheduling strategy based on the nonlinear programming is presented. The constraint is formed by the energy model and the requirement of balanced energy consumption. The network lifetime can be extended by adjusting the proportion of traffic and the distance to next hop. The factors affecting the energy efficiency are analyzed and simulation is presented. Simulation results show that energy balance can be achieved by adjusting the communication distance and traffic and network lifetime can be extended. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

We are interested in developing a multi-goal generator to provide detailed goal representations that help to improve the performance of the adaptive critic design (ACD). In this paper we propose a hierarchical structure of goal generator networks to cascade external reinforcement into more informative internal goal representations in the ACD. This is in contrast with previous designs in which the external reward signal is assigned to the critic network directly. The ACD control system performance is evaluated on the ball-and-beam balancing benchmark under noise-free and various noisy conditions. Simulation results in the form of a comparative study demonstrate effectiveness of our approach.

Special current transformer (CT) is designed to induct power from the power transmission lines for an inspection robot. Equivalent circuit is used for calculating and modelling the parameters of the current transformer. Air gap analysis is given aiming at adapting dynamic range of bar current, and calculation of the effect of air gap is provided in detail. Ratio change of current transformer is introduced by which the secondary current could be adaptive to the bus current. Simulation results show that dynamic control of length of air gap and turns of the coils could make the current transformer be adaptive to the variable bus current and be more convenient for inducing power for the power transmission lines inspection robot.

In this paper, a hierarchical neural network with cascading architecture is proposed and its application to classification is analyzed. This cascading architecture consists of multiple levels of neural network structure, in which the outputs of the hidden neurons in the higher hierarchical level are treated as an equivalent input data to the input neurons at the lower hierarchical level. The final predictive result is obtained through a modified weighted majority vote scheme. In this way, it is hoped that new patterns could be learned from hidden layers at each level and thus the combination result could significantly improve the learning performance of the whole system. In simulation, a comparison experiment is carried out among our approach and two popular ensemble learning approaches, bagging and AdaBoost. Various simulation results based on synthetic data and real data demonstrate this approach can improve the classification performance. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Learning control of dynamical systems based on Markov decision processes (MDPs) is an interdisciplinary research area of machine learning, control theory, and operations research. The main objective in this research area is to realize data-driven multi-stage optimal control for complex or uncertain dynamical systems. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on the theory, algorithms, and applications of MDP-based learning control of dynamical systems. Emphases are put on recent advances in the theory and methods of reinforcement learning (RL) and adaptive/approximate dynamic programming (ADP), including temporal-difference learning theory, value function approximation for continuous state and action spaces, direct policy search, approximate policy iteration, and adaptive critic designs. With the fast development of Internet and its data scale, B2B (Business to Business), whose speed and high availability advantage is based on Internet, is eroding more and more market share of traditional business. In recent years, the new data processing technologies, such as cloud computing, assure the enhancement of computer's computing capacity;it has become possible for researchers to process and analyze the massive business data, including large scale customer data, and large scale commodity information. A new B2B platform frame, based on cloud computing with less running time and better response efficiency, is proposed here to promote transaction handle efficiency. By adoption of complex network theory and cloud computing technology, the new platform has been evaluated to decrease transaction handle time, and make more benefits. © 2012 IEEE.

3D weld seam fitting based on interpolation-point cubic spline

The discrete weld seam feature points acquired in the course of arc-welding robot's teaching can not be used to control robot's movement, while a continuous curve which describes weld seam's space position is suitable for guiding the welding process. So an interpolation-point cubic parametric spline method is proposed to fit a 3D weld seam. Weld seam feature points should be analysed in order to estimate the linearity of local weld seam, the value of interpolation points within nonlinear weld seam may be evaluated by quadratic function interpolation. Experiment result indicates that even if the feature points are sparse, the fitted curve may pass through all feature points precisely and there is no disturbance between adjacent feature points.

Initial point location and seam tracking are two main functions of intelligent welding robots. According to the features of the butt seams in container manufacture, this paper presents a novel initial point location using the geometric relationship between two seams. An image-based visual seam tracking control method is proposed, which is based on the target and current image features of the seams. The target image feature is corrected in the welding process to compensate the curve of the tracking rails. The experiments are well conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods. The new systems can be applied in the real welding tasks.

To enhance classification performance by making use of easily available unlabelled data to overcome the scarcity of labelled data, this paper proposes an Embedded Co-Adaboost algorithm that integrates multi-view learning into the Adaboost learning framework and at the same time leverages the advantages of Co-training algorithm for performance enhancement. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of the convergence rate, the accuracy, and the steady performance as compared to the original AdaBoost algorithm, without relying on redundant and sufficient feature sets. As a algorithm application in software engineering, the Embedded Co-AdaBoost has been applied to the classification of software document relations to improve the quality of the architecture design documents and the reusability of design knowledge.
