Taking advantage of their inherent dexterity,robotic arms are competent in completing many tasks *** a result of the modeling complexity and kinematic uncertainty of robotic arms,model-free control paradigm has been proposed and investigated ***,robust model-free control of robotic arms in the presence of noise interference remains a problem worth *** this paper,we first propose a new kind of zeroing neural network(ZNN),i.e.,integration-enhanced noise-tolerant ZNN(IENT-ZNN)with integration-enhanced noisetolerant ***,a unified dual IENT-ZNN scheme based on the proposed IENT-ZNN is presented for the kinematic control problem of both rigid-link and continuum robotic arms,which improves the performance of robotic arms with the disturbance of noise,without knowing the structural parameters of the robotic *** finite-time convergence and robustness of the proposed control scheme are proven by theoretical ***,simulation studies and experimental demonstrations verify that the proposed control scheme is feasible in the kinematic control of different robotic arms and can achieve better results in terms of accuracy and robustness.

On the convergence of stochastic gradient descent with bandwidth-based step size

We first propose a general step-size framework for the stochastic gradient descent(SGD) method: bandwidth-based step sizes that are allowed to vary within a banded region. The framework provides efficient and flexible step size selection in optimization, including cyclical and non-monotonic step sizes (e.g., triangular policy and cosine with restart), for which theoretical guarantees are rare. We provide state-of-the-art convergence guarantees for SGD under mild conditions and allow a large constant step size at the beginning of training. Moreover, we investigate the error bounds of SGD under the bandwidth step size where the boundary functions are in the same order and different orders, respectively. Finally, we propose a 1/t up-down policy and design novel non-monotonic step sizes. Numerical experiments demonstrate these bandwidth-based step sizes' efficiency and significant potential in training regularized logistic regression and several large-scale neural network tasks.

Optical Network-on-Chip (ONoC) is a promising type of interconnection with advantages such as high bandwidth and low latency. The network performance of ONoC can be further enhanced by accurate traffic matrix prediction. Convolutional neural network (CNN) can capture the spatial-temporal information of the input through convolution kernels. In this paper, three CNN-based methods (i.e., Multi-Width CNN, Multi-Channel CNN, and Multi-Input CNN) of traffic matrix prediction are proposed, with multiple timesteps. Multi-Width CNN and Multi-Channel CNN are Single-Input CNN. The evaluation results show that the traffic prediction accuracy of the Multi-Input CNN is significantly improved, compared to the single input. In addition, the Multi-Input CNN better improves performance of ONoC, compared to some popular neural network-based prediction methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Chemical-assisted MMP reduction on methane-oil systems:Implications for natural gas injection to enhanced oil recovery

***,the main challenge in this process is the high minimum miscibility pressure(MMP)between natural gas and crude oil,which limits its application and recovery factor,especially in hightemperature ***,we present a novel investigation to quantify the effect of chemicalassisted MMP reduction on the oil recovery ***,we measured the interfacial tension(IFT)of the methane-oil system in the presence of chemical or CO_(2) to calculate the MMP reduction at a constant temperature(373K)using the vanishing interfacial tension(VIT)***,we performed three coreflooding experiments to quantify the effect of MMP reduction on the oil recovery factor under different injection *** interfacial tension measurements show that adding a small fraction(1.5 wt%)of the tested surfactant(SOLOTERRA ME-6)achieved 9%of MMP reduction,while adding 20 wt%of CO_(2) to the methane yields 13%of MMP ***,the coreflooding results highlight the significance of achieving miscibility during gas injection,as the ultimate recovery factor increased from 65.5%under immiscible conditions to 77.2%using chemical-assisted methane,and to 79%using gas mixture after achieving near miscible *** results demonstrate the promising potential of the MMP reduction to signifi-cantly increase the oil recovery factor during gas ***,these results will likely expand the application envelop of the miscible gas injection,in addition to the environmental benefits of utilizing the produced gas by re-injection/recycling instead of flaring which contributes to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.

In the absence of class priors, recent deep clustering methods resort to data augmentation and pseudo-labeling strategies to generate supervision signals. Though achieved remarkable success, existing works struggle to discriminate hard samples at cluster boundaries, mining which is particularly challenging due to their unreliable cluster assignments. To break such a performance bottleneck, we propose incorporating user interaction to facilitate clustering instead of exhaustively mining semantics from the data itself. To be exact, we present Interactive Deep Clustering (IDC), a plug-and-play method designed to boost the performance of pre-trained clustering models with minimal interaction overhead. More specifically, IDC first quantitatively evaluates sample values based on hardness, representativeness, and diversity, where the representativeness avoids selecting outliers and the diversity prevents the selected samples from collapsing into a small number of clusters. IDC then queries the cluster affiliations of high-value samples in a user-friendly manner. Finally, it utilizes the user feedback to finetune the pre-trained clustering model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that IDC could remarkably improve the performance of various pre-trained clustering models, at the expense of low user interaction costs. This study focuses on the Lower Yellow River(LYR),which has experienced continuous erosion since the operation of Xiaolangdi Reservoir in 1999,and its spatiotemporal variation process is *** on the single-step mode of the Delayed Response Model(DRM),we proposed a calculation method for simulating the accumulated erosion and deposition volume in the *** coefficient of determination R^(2)between the calculated and measured values from 2000 to 2020 is ***,the LYR is undergoing continuous erosion,however the erosion rate is gradually slowing down,and the difference between the equilibrium and calculated values of accumulated erosion and deposition volume gradually decreases,which means riverbed erosion has a tendency towards ***,we derive a formula to simulate the spatial distribution of the main channel accumulated erosion volume per unit river length in the LYR based on the non-equilibrium suspended sediment transport *** coefficient of determination R^(2)between the fitted values and measured values from 2003 to 2015 is approximately 0.98-0.99,with a relative error of approximately 6.2%.The findings in this research suggest that under the current background of decreasing sediment inflow and continuous erosion in the LYR,it takes approximately 3.0 years for the riverbed to achieve half of the erosion and deposition adjustment and approximately 13.0 years to achieve 95%of the ***,the spatial distribution of accumulated main channel erosion volume in the LYR tends to become uniform with the continuous development of *** results could provide a valuable reference for analysing the complex spatiotemporal variation process in the LYR.

First-principles investigation of microscopic mechanisms underlying hole mobilities in diamond, silicon, and germanium

Silicon (Si) dominates the semiconductor industry but currently suffers from significant hole mobility degradation in advanced transistors due to its abnormally low hole mobility (505cm2/Vs), compared to its group IV neighbors, diamond and germanium (Ge) (both ∼2000cm2/Vs). While Ge's high mobility is understandable by its lighter effective hole mass due to its narrower direct bandgap at Γ point, diamond's superior hole mobility remains difficult to understand since its bandgap is ultrawide. Conventional wisdom attributes diamond's high mobility to reduced phonon scattering due to high acoustic phonon group velocity and optical phonon frequency, overcoming its heaviest effective mass. However, our study reveals that this mechanism alone is insufficient to explain the observed mobility. We demonstrate that the diamond's abnormally light effective hole mass is a primary factor contributing to its high mobility; otherwise, its hole mobility would be approximately nine times lower than Si's. The unexpectedly light mass in diamond stems from larger transition matrix elements, resulting from substantial electronic wave-function overlap between valence and conduction bands, remarkably overcoming the effect of diamond's large bandgap. Furthermore, our investigation uncovers a unique feature in diamond's valence band structure: an inherent strain-enhanced mobility characteristic, where the top valence band manifests as a light-hole (lh) state along certain crystallographic directions (e.g., [100]), instead of the typical heavy-hole (hh) state. Contrary to prevailing assumptions, we observe a strong coupling between holes and transverse acoustic (TA) phonons, and even TA scattering dominates over longitudinal acoustic (LA) scattering in both diamond and Si, challenging the long-held belief that TA scattering is negligible. Our calculations yield a dilation deformation potential of 3.45 eV for diamond, significantly diverging from previously reported values, e.g., 7 or −35 eV.

QoS-Based Beamforming and Compression Design for Cooperative Cellular Networks via Lagrangian Duality

This paper considers the quality-of-service (QoS)-based joint beamforming and compression design problem in the downlink cooperative cellular network, where multiple relay-like base stations (BSs), connected to the central processor via ratelimited fronthaul links, cooperatively transmit messages to the users. The problem of interest is formulated as the minimization of the total transmit power of the BSs, subject to all users' signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraints and all BSs' fronthaul rate constraints. In this paper, we first show that there is no duality gap between the considered joint optimization problem and its Lagrangian dual by showing the tightness of its semidefinite relaxation (SDR). Then, we propose an efficient algorithm based on the above duality result for solving the considered problem. The proposed algorithm judiciously exploits the special structure of an enhanced Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions of the considered problem and approaches the solution that satisfies the enhanced KKT conditions via two fixed point iterations. Two key features of the proposed algorithm are: (1) it is able to detect whether the considered problem is feasible or not and find its globally optimal solution when it is feasible;(2) it is highly efficient because both of the fixed point iterations in the proposed algorithm are linearly convergent and function evaluations in the fixed point iterations are computationally cheap. Numerical results show the global optimality and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Black carbon absorption is a major contributor to global warming, with considerable uncertainty due to complex microscopic properties. Previous studies have mainly attributed the complex absorption enhancement (Eabs) to the non-uniform mixing states, while the effects of the non-uniform coating structure have usually been ignored. In this paper, a modeling framework was proposed to simultaneously investigate the effects of complex coating structures and mixing states. At the particle scale, the effects of non-uniform coating structure can generally be reflected by three levels, and we show that modeling the non-uniform coating structure is important to explain the small Eabs observed in laboratory measurements, which are difficult to explain with a Mie-based model and a model of uniform coating structure. On a population scale, the simultaneous consideration of heterogeneous mixing states and coating structures can significantly improve the model performance in reproducing the field measurements. Although both non-uniform mixing states and coating structures have an important impact on the global aerosol optical absorption depth (AAOD) and direct radiative forcing (DRF), they may attenuate each other’s effects. Therefore, previous studies may overestimate the effects of mixing states based on Mie theory by assuming a uniform coating structure. This work clearly demonstrates the importance of both non-uniform mixing conditions and coating structure on aerosol absorption and DRF. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.
