With the deep integration of cyber tools, control algorithms are increasingly employed in cyber-physical energy systems to enhance management, cost efficiency, and robustness. Effective demand load management is crucial in cyber-physical energy systems as it directly impacts operational costs. Failure to adequately manage spiky or seasonal demand loads can lead to significant expenses on monthly utility bills. In this study, we propose AMPAMOD, a randomized online algorithm with machine-learned advice, to optimize battery operations and mitigate highly dynamic peak loads. AMPAMOD utilizes limited advice from machine learning algorithms to guide our online algorithm and ensure cost-effective peak load management. The theoretical analysis shows that our solution has minimal advice complexity, a linear computational cost, and an improved competitive ratio. Finally, we conduct extensive trace-driven experiments on real-world datasets. AMPAMOD achieves a peak shaving success rate of over 90%, outperforming baselines by at least 50%. These experimental results confirm theoretical findings and demonstrate the potential of AMPAMOD. © 2023 IEEE.

We study the effect of waveguide thickness variations on the frequency spectrum of spontaneous parametric downconversion in the periodically-poled lithium niobate on insulator(LNOI)*** analyze several variation models and our simulation results show that thickness variations in several nanometers can induce distinct effects on the central peak of the spectrum,such as narrowing,broadening,and *** also prove that the effects of positive and negative variations can be canceled and thus lead to a variation-robust feature and an ultra-broad *** study may promote the development of on-chip photon sources in the LNOI platform,as well as opens up a way to engineer photon frequency state.

With the advent of Industry 4.0,water treatment systems(WTSs)are recognized as typical industrial cyber-physical systems(iCPSs)that are connected to the open *** information technology(IT)benefits the WTS in the aspects of reliability,efficiency,and ***,the vulnerabilities exposed in the communication and control infrastructure on the cyber side make WTSs prone to cyber *** traditional IT system oriented defense mechanisms cannot be directly applied in safety-critical WTSs because the availability and real-time requirements are of great *** this paper,we propose an entropy-based intrusion detection(EBID)method to thwart cyber attacks against widely used controllers(e.g.,programmable logic controllers)in WTSs to address this *** of the varied WTS operating conditions,there is a high false-positive rate with a static threshold for ***,we propose a dynamic threshold adjustment mechanism to improve the performance of *** validate the performance of the proposed approaches,we built a high-fidelity WTS testbed with more than 50 measurement *** conducted experiments under two attack scenarios with a total of 36attacks,showing that the proposed methods achieved a detection rate of 97.22%and a false alarm rate of 1.67%.

Optical neural networks(ONNs)offer a promising solution for high-performance,energy-efficient artificial intelligence hardware by leveraging the parallelism and speed of ***,the large-scale implementation of ONNs remains challenging due to the bulky footprint and complex control of optical *** this work,we propose and simulate a plasmonic polarized synaptic architecture that overcomes the diffraction limit and enables ultra-compact *** tuning the polarization state of incident light,the optical transmittance through each plasmonic unit can be dynamically adjusted to represent a synaptic *** plasmonic structures,with features as small as 40 nm,operate well below this limit in the visible spectrum(400-750 nm).Compared with diffraction and interference-based circuit designs,our proposed method achieves a substantial reduction in synaptic density by factors of 150000-fold and 1500-fold,***,we successfully demonstrate a proof-of-concept plasmonic ONN applied to the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research—10 classes(CIFAR-10)dataset using a Visual Geometry Group network with 16 layers(VGG16)*** training for 80 epochs,the network achieves an accuracy of 93%.The polarization-tunable plasmonics paves the way towards scalable ONNs for next-generation artificial intelligence(AI)accelerators and smart sensors.

Low-heat Portland(LHP)cement is a new type of Portland cement that has been widely used in recent years due to its low heat of hydration,which makes it exceptional in temperature control for mass concrete ***,limited studies have investigated the impact of temperature and magnesium oxide(MgO)content on LHP cement-based *** study utilizes thermodynamic simulations to study the hydration process,pore structure,and autogenous shrinkage of LHP cement pastes with different water-to-cement ratios(0.3,0.4,and 0.5),curing temperatures(5,15,20,and 30℃),and MgO contents(mass fractions of 2%,4%,and 5%).Higher curing temperature is found to promote the hydration reactions in cement ***,the incorporation of 4%MgO moderately decreases both porosity and dimensional shrinkage in *** microstructural evolution of different LHP pastes is examined through a comparative analysis,lending insights into LHP cement-based material applications.

SROBR: Semantic Representation of Obfuscation-Resilient Binary Code

With the rapid development of information technology, the scale of software has increased exponentially. Binary code similarity detection technology plays an important role in many fields, such as detecting software plagiarism, vulnerabilities discovery, and copyright solution issues. Nevertheless, what cannot be ignored is that a variety of approaches to binary code semantic representation have been introduced recently, but few can catch up with existing code obfuscation techniques due to their maturing and extensive development. In order to solve this problem, we propose a new neural network model, named SROBR, which is a deep integration of natural language processing model and graph neural network. In SROBR, BERT is applied to capture sequence information of the binary code at the first place, and then GAT is utilized to capture the structural information. It combines natural language processing and graph neural network, which can capture the semantic information of binary programs while resisting obfuscation options in a more efficient way. Through binary code similarity detection task and obfuscated option classification task, the experimental results demonstrate that SROBR outperforms existing binary similarity detection methods in resisting obfuscation techniques. © 2022 Ke Tang et al.

The scaling off is among the most pervasive and severe deterioration *** scaling off developed on earthen sites in Northwest China has a special and complex binary structure composed of crusted and loose *** the synergistic functions of external environmental elements such as rainfall,temperature,and wind,and rammed earth properties,this deterioration has gradually created the crust on the site’s surface,and has then evolved into exfoliation and finally fallen off,leading to the reciprocating progressive destruction of earthen ***,determining the development mechanism of scaling off and implementing targeted protection measures for the scientific conservation of earthen sites has become *** this review study,the properties of the building material causing the binary structure and the coupling effects of water,temperature,salt,and wind on the development of scaling off were determined,and the quantitative evaluation system for this deterioration development was *** interpreting the reasons for the development of the scaling off,protective measures including chemical grouting,electro-osmosis grouting,and overlay applications were *** study also pointed out the research hotspots and shortage in the study process on the scaling *** hotspots generally focused on the development mechanism of binary structure,quantitative assessment of the degree of development,and related scientific consolidation *** shortcomings around the above directions include less attention to the development characteristics and mechanism of scaling off on earthen sites under special environment types,optimization and applicability of quantitative evaluation models,and the development and feasibility of reinforcement slurries and *** study can be beneficial in providing theoretical support for the scientific conservation and engineering practice of the scaling off on the earthen sites.

The development of Cyber-Physical Fusion Technology gradually takes the power grid in the direction of intelligence, making the smart substation a typical cyber-physical fusion system. However, while the introduction of the IEC61850 standard solves the interoperability problem of smart substations, it also brings new types of cybersecurity threats. Therefore, traditional network intrusion detection techniques do not apply to smart substations, and it is particularly important to analyze and summarize the current relevant research on the security of smart substations. The main contribution of this paper is to discuss the security of smart substations in terms of threat behaviors and defense measures. In-depth analysis is carried out from the three attack perspectives of the information domain, physical domain, and cyber-physical intersection domain, and the detection methods, detection objects, and detection evaluation methods for smart substation security are summarized. Finally, the problems to be solved in smart substations and possible future research directions are discussed. © 2022 IEEE.

The Barzilai-Borwein (BB) gradient method, which employs two-point stepsizes computed by the information of two consecutive iterations, is efficient in solving large-scale unconstrained optimization. In this paper, motivated by the success of BB method and the multi-point stepsize proposed by Dai and Fletcher (Mathematical Programming, 2006, 106: 403–421), we develop a new efficient gradient method, called MPSG, which adaptively uses the Dai-Fletcher long stepsize and Dai-Fletcher short stepsize. The R-linear convergence of MPSG for general n-dimensional strictly convex quadratic functions is established. By making use of two modified multi-point stepsizes and nonmonotone line searches, MPSG is extended to solve general unconstrained optimization. Moreover, the proposed MPSG method is further generalized for solving extreme eigenvalue problems. Numerical experiments on quadratic optimization, general unconstrained optimization and extreme eigenvalue problems demonstrate the efficiency of our method. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
