A kind of fiber-optic sensor for simultaneous measurement of refractive index of surrounding medium, temperature and strain is described. Based on core diameter mismatch, a multimode-single mode-multimode (MSM) structure is presented. It is demonstrated that the three parameters can be measured respectively by the interference of the core mode and cladding modes excited in the single mode fiber (SMF). Then combined with a polarization-maintaining fiber Bragg grating (PMFBG) which has different sensing properties from MSM structure, three parameters are measured simultaneously. The experimental results show that PMFBG is insensitive to the refractive index and the refractive index sensitivity of the MSM structure is 96.04 nm·RIU^(-1); the temperature sensitivities of the characteristic wavelength for MSM structure and the center wavelengths of fast and slow axes for PMFBG are 0.0911 nm °C^(-1), 0.00976 nm °C^(-1) and 0.0105 nm °C^(-1), respectively; the strain sensitivities of those are -0.013 nm με^(-1), 0.012 nm με^(-1) and 0.012 nm με^(-1), respectively.

A novel alive entropy-based detection approach was proposed, which detects the abnormal network traffic based on the values of alive entropies. The alive entropies calculated based on the NetFlow data coming from the network traffic of input and output of a whole system, which is essentially a monitored network. In order to decrease false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, different scales are selected to compute the values of alive entropies in different sizes of network traffic. With the low false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, the abnormal network traffic can be effectively detected. Experiments carried out on a real campus network were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study illustrates that the proposed approach may easily detect the abnormal network traffic with random characteristics in comparison with some "conventional" approaches reported in the literatures.

Computation of the optical flow from a sequence of images remains open in the community of computer vision. Two classical models for this problem are the global smoothness algorithm proposed by Horn-Schunck and the oriented smoothness algorithm by Nagel and Enkelmann. In order to increase the accuracy of motion discontinuity, we propose a new optical flow model which incorporates the harmonic smoothness constraint borrowed from the harmonic gradient vector flow (HGVF) model into the oriented smoothness constraint. In particular, we combine the curl term of the harmonic constraint with the oriented smoothness to control the direction of the displacement vectors together and introduce two spatially varying weighting functions to control the above-mentioned two terms. The benefit of the suggested strategies is illustrated qualitatively on the synthetical image and quantitatively on the Middlebury optical flow benchmark. Compared with the classical Horn-Schunck and Nagel-Enkelmann methods, this method can provide more accurate estimation of optical flow around motion discontinuities.
