To improve the convergence time of Ant Colony Algorithm, avoid falling in local best and enhance the quality of solution, a novel dynamic parameters ant colony algorithm with particle swarm characteristics is proposed. Learning the multi-information instruction characteristic of Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm, the global pheromone update rule with particle swarm characteristic is introduced to improve the directive function of pheromone and the speed of convergence. At the same time, solution multiplicity is guaranteed as far as possible. Using the function of current condition to update particle speed and position, parameters of Ant Colony Algorithm is used to reflect the current condition. Hyperbola Tangent function is imported to dynamic adjust parameters so that the relation between local search and global search could be balanced. Comparing with basic Ant Colony Algorithm, the simulation result on TSP shows that new algorithm has higher convergence speed and better solution. © 2009 IEEE.

A fuzzy clustering is one of important and valid methods to knowledge discovery. One of problems in fuzzy clustering is to determine a certain fuzzy sample classification in given limited sample space. Another is its validity, that is to say, if the sample is resemble in sample space, its fuzzy type will be resemble too. In our research, firstly, using triangle arithmetic operator and triangle transference, we extend fuzzy equivalence relationship to fuzzy closeness relationship, and cluster. Secondly, importing fuzzy coverage based on fuzzy closeness relationship, we judge resemble type of resemble sample. Thirdly, we introduce the clustering method based on fuzzy closeness relationship and fuzzy coverage. The method can overcome information more loss in fuzzy equivalence. Finally, evaluating its validity, we test its feasibility. The method above is applied to knowledge discovery for electronic commerce on Internet, we have got good result. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper presents a hybrid short-term traffic flow forecast technology. For the uncertainty, the short-term traffic flow forecast is complicated, and the accuracy is not high. This strategy combines the RBF neural network and ant colony clustering algorithm to forecast the traffic flow. It used ant colony clustering algorithm to get the centers of hidden layer neurons. To find the best clustering result, local search is used in ant colony algorithm. The model has strong local generalization abilities and high accuracy. The simulation experiment results illuminate that the application is fairly effective. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper proposes the MDMA (Multi-dimensional Distributed Mining Association rules) algorithm based on advanced SQL query. The algorithm works on star-style structure networks. It uses CUBE operator in new standard SQL and combines with SQL powerful query function. So there is no need for the proposed algorithm to conduct a great deal of iterations to generate frequent itemsets in the process of mining association rules. Therefore, no matter what the number of the site in the distributed environments and the scale of the local database in the local site is, the algorithm always needs only two times of scanning the database and only three times of network communications to generate all the global frequent itemsets. Consequently, this algorithm has the merits of light network traffic, low time cost, better scalability and more simplicity. © 2009 IEEE.

Along with the rapid growth of the number of the available web services over the internet, the quality of services (Qos) becomes an imperative concern for service consumers and providers. How to differentiate their quality based on Qos criteria at web service level is a challenging issue. Considering that evolutionary algorithm has powerful ability of searching information, a new web service composition model under improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm is presented in this paper. According to the non-functional attributes Qos of services, the model can select web services with optimal Qos and compose them into value-added web services. Furthermore, IPSO model not only can find the service with optimal Qos immediately but also can overcome the bottleneck of the standard PSO model. It can balance the exploitation and exploration and avoid premature convergence to some extent. As a result, web services can be invocated dynamically and be composed automatically and efficiently. The preliminary experimental results indicate that the web service composition approach based on IPSO model is applicable and feasible to the optimization of general service compositions. ©2009 IEEE.

In allusion to the boundary leaking problem of traditional active contours when used to extract facial features, two kinds of local information are introduced to enhance the weak boundary, then to build new external force for active contours. The prior knowledge of the local shape of the facial features is incorporated into the evolution of active contour. The snake contour in each evolution step just serves as prediction, and then is ruled by the prior local shape;this way, the snake contour deforms via prediction-correction two steps. This two-step-deformation (TSD) snake can utilize the a priori shape of objects effectively. The proposed strategies are evaluated on several images and the experimental results validate the high performance of this TSD snake for facial features segmentation. ©2009 IEEE.

Snakes or active contours are widely used in the fields of computer vision and image processing. Gradient vector flow (GVF) is an effective external force for active contours, but it is based on isotropic diffusion and doesn't take the image structure into account. In this study, a novel external force for active contours, named edge preserving gradient vector flow is proposed for active contours. The gradient information of the image is used in the proposed model. This proposed model has been assessed on different images; experimental results show that the new model provides much better results than GVF snake in terms of noise robustness, weak edge preserving, and concavity convergence.

Gradient vector flow (GVF) has been one effective external force for active contours, but it is based on isotropic diffusion. The recently proposed NGVF external force just took into account the diffusion along normal direction of the level line, so it is sensitive to noise and could smear the weak boundaries. In this article, we present a novel one called normally biased gradient vector flow (NBGVF) which keeps the diffusion along the tangential direction of the level line and biases that along the normal direction. The biasing weight of the diffusion along the normal direction approaches zero at boundaries and is 1, even larger, in homogeneous regions. Consequently, the NBGVF can preserve weak edges and smooth out noise while maintaining other desirable properties of GVF and NGVF such as enlarged capture range, insensitivity to initialization and convergence to u-shape concavity. These properties are evaluated on synthetic and real images.

The gradient vector flow (GVF) is an effective external force for active contours, but it's smoothness constraint doesn't take any image structure into account and the resulting diffusion equation is isotropic which would oversmooth weak edges. In this article, a novel external force named image structure adaptive gradient vector flow (ISAGVF) is proposed for active contours. The proposed ISAGVF employs certain smoothness constraint which is able to be adaptive to image structure, such that the ISAGVF snake would outperform the GVF snake in terms of noise robustness, weak edge preserving and narrow and deep concavity convergence, while possessing some other desirable properties such as enlarged capture range and insensitivity to initialization. Experiments on synthetic and real images manifest these properties of ISAGVF snake.

The gradient vector flow (GVF) snake shows high performance at concavity convergence and initialization insensitivity, but the two components of GVF field are treated isolatedly during diffusion, this leads to the failure of GVF snake at deep and narrow concavity convergence and weak edge preserving. In this study, a novel external force for active contours is proposed that couples the two components during diffusion by generalizing the Laplacian operator from flat space to manifold. The specific operator is Beltrami operator. This proposed method has been assessed on synthetic and real images; experimental results show that the new method behaves similarly to the GVF snake in terms of capture range enlarging, initialization insensitivity, U-shape concavity convergence, while provides much better results than GVF snake for noise robustness, narrow and deep concavity convergence and weak edge preserving.
