In this paper, we present an application of a pole placement technique related to the stability analysis for a linear constrained system. In this regard some of the main approaches that have been used in the last decades dealing with the pole placement will be engaged. Concepts and methods involved in this work include positive invariance as an efficient notion for the pole placement amelioration of a modern SISO system. The state feedback will enhance the stabily of the closed loop system under the notion of constrained control. For this aim, a greenhouse system, is engaged and a linear discrete time state space model, which fits properly the acquired data of the greenhouse, was identified by the mean of the subspace system identification (N4sid) algorithm. The obtained model will be used in order to develop and calculate the state feedback gain based on the so-called Sylvester algebric equation and one of the pole placement techniques algorithm to ameliorate the closedloop pole placement of the system with constraints on the control. © 2020 IEEE.

We address the channel estimation problem in reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) aided broadband systems by proposing a dual-structure and multi-dimensional transformations (DS-MDT) algorithm. The proposed approach leverages the dual-structure features of the channel parameters to assist users experiencing weaker channel conditions, thereby enhancing estimation performance. Moreover, given that the channel parameters are distributed across multiple dimensions of the received tensor, the proposed algorithm employs multidimensional transformations to effectively isolate and extract distinct parameters. The numerical results demonstrate the proposed algorithm reduces the normalized mean square error (NMSE) by up to 10 dB while maintaining lower complexity compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2025, CC BY.

Device activity detection in the emerging cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems has been recognized as a crucial task in machine-type communications, in which multiple access points (APs) jointly identify the active devices from a large number of potential devices based on the received signals. Most of the existing works addressing this problem rely on the impractical assumption that different active devices transmit signals synchronously. However, in practice, synchronization cannot be guaranteed due to the low-cost oscillators, which brings additional discontinuous and nonconvex constraints to the detection problem. To address this challenge, this paper reveals an equivalent reformulation to the asynchronous activity detection problem, which facilitates the development of a centralized algorithm and a distributed algorithm that satisfy the highly nonconvex constraints in a gentle fashion as the iteration number increases, so that the sequence generated by the proposed algorithms can get around bad stationary points. To reduce the capacity requirements of the fronthauls, we further design a communication-efficient accelerated distributed algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed centralized and distributed algorithms outperform state-of-the-art approaches, and the proposed accelerated distributed algorithm achieves a close detection performance to that of the centralized algorithm but with a much smaller number of bits to be transmitted on the fronthaul links. This paper considers the distributed online convex optimization problem with time-varying constraints over a network of agents. This is a sequential decision making problem with two sequences of arbitrarily varying convex loss and constraint functions. At each round, each agent selects a decision from the decision set, and then only a portion of the loss function and a coordinate block of the constraint function at this round are privately revealed to this agent. The goal of the network is to minimize the network-wide loss accumulated over time. Two distributed online algorithms with full-information and bandit feedback are proposed. Both dynamic and static network regret bounds are analyzed for the proposed algorithms, and network cumulative constraint violation is used to measure constraint violation, which excludes the situation that strictly feasible constraints can compensate the effects of violated constraints. In particular, we show that the proposed algorithms achieve O(T max{κ,1-κ}) static network regret and O(T 1-κ/2) network cumulative constraint violation, where T is the time horizon and κ ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. Moreover, if the loss functions are strongly convex, then the static network regret bound can be reduced to O(T κ). With increased wind power penetration in modern power systems, wind plants are required to provide frequency support similar to conventional plants. However, for the existing frequency regulation scheme of wind turbines, the control gains in the auxiliary frequency controller are difficult to set because of the compromise of the frequency regulation performance and the stable operation of wind turbines, especially when the wind speed remains variable. This paper proposes a novel frequency regulation scheme (FRS) for de-loaded wind turbines. Instead of an auxiliary frequency controller, frequency support is provided by modifying the parametrized power versus rotor speed (Pw-ωr) curve, including the inertia power versus rotor speed curve and the droop power versus rotor speed curve. The advantage of the proposed scheme is that it does not contain any control gains and generally adapts to different wind speeds. Further, the proposed scheme can work for the whole section of wind speed without wind speed measurement information. The compared simulation results demonstrate the scheme improves the system frequency response while ensuring the stable operation of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs)-based variable-speed wind turbines (VSWTs) under various wind conditions. Furthermore, the scheme prevents rotor speed overdeceleration even when the wind speed decreases during frequency regulation control. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

— Linear queries can be submitted to a server containing private data. The server provides a response to the queries systematically corrupted using an additive noise to preserve the privacy of those whose data is stored on the server. The measure of privacy is inversely proportional to the trace of the Fisher information matrix. It is assumed that an adversary can inject a false bias to the responses. The measure of the security, capturing the ease of detecting the presence of the false data injection, is the sensitivity of the Kullback-Leiber divergence to the additive bias. An optimization problem for balancing privacy and security is proposed and subsequently solved. It is shown that the level of guaranteed privacy times the level of security equals a constant. Therefore, by increasing the level of privacy, the security guarantees can only be weakened and vice versa. Similar results are developed under the differential privacy framework. Social media is profoundly changing our society with its unprecedented spreading power. Due to the complexity of human behaviors and the diversity of massive messages, the information spreading dynamics are complicated, and the reported mechanisms are different and even controversial. Based on data from mainstream social media platforms, including WeChat, Weibo, and Twitter, cumulatively encompassing a total of 7.45 billion users, we uncover a ubiquitous mechanism that the information spreading dynamics are basically driven by the interplay of social reinforcement and social weakening effects. Accordingly, we propose a concise equation, which, surprisingly, can well describe all the empirical large-scale spreading trajectories. Our theory resolves a number of controversial claims and satisfactorily explains many phenomena previously observed. It also reveals that the highly clustered nature of social networks can lead to rapid and high-frequency information bursts with relatively small coverage per burst. This vital feature enables social media to have a high capacity and diversity for information dissemination, beneficial for its ecological development. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper investigates a pattern formation control problem for a multi-agent system modeled with given interaction topology, in which m of the n agents are chosen as leaders and consequently a control signal is added to each of the leaders. These agents interact with each other by Laplacian dynamics on a graph. The pattern formation control problem is formulated as an intrinsic infinite time-horizon linear quadratic optimal control problem, namely, no error information is incorporated in the objective function. Under mild conditions, we show the existence of the optimal control strategy and the convergence to the desired pattern formation. Based on the optimal control strategy, we propose a distributed control strategy to achieve the given pattern. Finally, numerical simulation is given to illustrate theoretical results.
