We consider the event-triggered state estimation of a finite-state hidden Markov model with a general stochastic event-triggering condition. Utilizing the change of probability measure approach and the event-triggered measurement information available to the estimator, analytical expressions for the conditional probability distributions of the states are obtained, based on which the minimum mean square error event-based state estimates are further calculated. We show that the results also cover the case of packet dropout, under a special parameterization of the event-triggering conditions. With the results on state estimation, a closed-form expression of the average sensor-to-estimator communication rate is also presented. The effectiveness of the proposed results is illustrated by a numerical example and comparative simulations.

In a resolver signal processing system, sine and cosine signals processed by the resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) obtained from a resolver is looped back as the resolver's sine wave excitation signal as to ensure that the signal is in-phase and frequency with generated output signals. Regenerating constant-amplitude sine wave is a challenge since output signal amplitude grows and decays over time based on its initial signal In this work, an approach is proposed to digitally generate sinusoidal signal based on a state machine. Progression of states in a state machine that is fixed enables maintaining constant amplitude signal. Implementation using Altera FPGA Cyclone II (EP2C8Q208C8) shows sinusoidal signal is produced with less hardware resources for higher angle and data resolution compared to the popular method of ROM-based lookup table.

We present a novel algorithm for reducing the state dimension, i.e., order, of linear parameter varying (LPV) discrete-time state-space (SS) models with affine dependence on the scheduling variable. The input-output behavior of the reduced order model approximates that of the original model. In fact, for input and scheduling sequences of a certain length, the input-output behaviors of the reduced and original model coincide. The proposed method can also be interpreted as a reachability and observability reduction (minimization) procedure for LPV-SS representations with affine dependence.

The trafficcontrol System of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police department (hereinafter, "MPD") evolved from the traffic Information Center which was opened in 1961 for the purpose of reducing traffic congestion and the number of accidents that had been building up. Initially, congestion status was monitored through reports from policemen at the scene over the phone, but with the SATIC system (a system for reporting traffic congestion states) installed at approximately 220 key intersections in the Metropolitan Tokyo Area in 1963 paved the way for machine-based information gathering to replace manual monitoring. In 1966, a traffic signal control system which optimizes traffic signal control based on information from vehicle detectors was given a trial run. Following its success, a trafficcontrol center which is the precursor of the current trafficcontrol Center started its operation to provide road traffic information and to controltraffic signals automatically. In this paper, the authors will outline the history of the trafficcontrol Center in stages and report the efforts made in sophisticating the technique of demand prediction traffic signal control and the adaptive offset and sub-area control technique as part of the traffic signal control function.
