Recently we have developed an eigenvector method (EVM) which can achieve the blind deconvolution (BD) for MIMO systems. One of attractive features of the proposed algorithm is that the BD can be achieved by calculating the eigenvectors of a matrix relevant to it. However, the performance accuracy of the EVM depends highly on computational results of the eigenvectors. In this paper, by modifying the EVM, we propose an algorithm which can achieve the BD without calculating the eigenvectors. Then the pseudo-inverse which is needed to carry out the BD is calculated by our proposed matrix pseudo-inversion lemma. Moreover, using a combination of the conventional EVM and the modified EVM, we will show its performances comparing with each EVM. Simulation results will be presented for showing the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

A new relative error model reduction technique for linear time invariant (LTI) systems is proposed in this paper. Both continuous and discrete time systems can be reduced within this framework. The proposed model reduction method is mainly based upon time-weighted balanced truncation and a recently developed inner-outer factorization technique. Compared to the other analogous counterparts, the proposed method shows to provide more accurate results in terms of time weighted norms, when applied to different practical examples. The results are further illustrated by a numerical example.

In terms of the difficulty of vehicle tracking in complex environment of the visual surveillance system, an object tracking algorithm is proposed for the applications in practical visual surveillance systems for intelligent traffic. A block-based Gaussian mixture background modeling method for object detection is presented to reduce the computational complexity of moving vehicle object abstraction. An adaptive tracking algorithm fused with color features and texture features is described to better adapt the traffic scene variation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively deal with the complex urban traffic conditions and the tracking performance is better than the conventional particle filter method and single feature based non-adaptive object tracking method.

The design of voltage regulators for mobile computing applications is complicated by several factors that lead to making tradeoffs between efficiency, voltage ripple and dynamic response. Careful choices must be made in selecting the passive and active components order to accommodate for the performance figures required to achieve compatibility for DVS ready processors. A suitable control scheme must be selected that can suffice the stability and dynamic response required. This paper describes the design of Buck converter that has a fuzzy controller implemented using Atmel Atmega189 RISC Based microcontroller with a choice of hardware components that will ensure better efficiency while delivering good stability and dynamic response. System simulation was carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results showed that the fuzzy controller has the capability of providing response characteristics that makes it comparable with PID controllers and more suitable for implementation using microcontrollers.

Recent increases in railway patronage worldwide have created pressure on rolling stock and railway infrastructure through the demand to improve the capacity and punctuality of the whole system, and this demand must also be balanced with reducing life-cycle costs. Condition monitoring is seen as a significant contributor in achieving this. The emphasis of this article is on the use of sensors mounted on rolling stock to monitor the condition of infrastructure and the rolling stock itself. This is set in the context of modern rolling stock being fitted with high-capacity communication buses and multiple sensors, resulting in the potential for advanced processing of collected data. This article brings together linked research that uses a similar set of rolling stock sensors, and discusses: general usage and benefits, a track defect detection method, running gear condition monitoring, and absolute train speed detection.
