This paper discusses tracking control problem with a discrete-time multi-agent system with active leader and quantized communication constraints. For the active leader in a general linear form, we give a distributed design for each discrete-time agent in the leader tracking control problem and analyze the tracking convergence with the help of Riccati equation and common Lyapunov function when the communication channel is perfect. Then a stochastic quantization strategy is applied to model the information transmission in the agent coordination and the corresponding solution is also given, even if the interconnection topology is switching.

The matrix inversion lemma gives an explicit formula of the inverse of a positive-definite matrix A added to a block of dyads (represented as BB H ). It is well-known in the literature that this formula is very useful to develop a block-based recursive least-squares algorithm for the block-based recursive identification of linear systems or the design of adaptive filters. We already extended this result to the case when the matrix A is singular, and presented the matrix pseudo-inversion lemma. Such a singular case may occur in a situation where a given problem is overdetermined in the sense that it has more equations than unknowns. In this paper, based on these results, we propose a block-based adaptive multichannel super-exponential deflation algorithm. We present simulation results for the performance of the block-based algorithm in order to show the usefulness of the matrix pseudo-inversion lemma.

In this paper a new approach to multiobjective control is proposed. The approach is based on Model Predictive control but is extended to account for several independent objective functions. This is done by substituting a single objective predictive optimisation task with the multiobjective one. A dedicated method of selecting a unique solution from the resulting Pareto front is then required to be applied to the plant. An adaptive selection mechanism is proposed. It adjusts itself to the current Pareto front by means of updating the Utopia point and span of the front based on the current front. Moreover, a way of introducing preferences to the selection mechanism is proposed. The derived adaptive multiobjective model predictive controller is then applied to integrated quality and quantity control of drinking water distribution system.

The paper considers a complex problem of the optimized management and control of energy supplied from solar and traditional electrical and gas energy sources into a single-family house in order to meet required temperature in the house. Solving the problem is approached by applying the controlengineering methods. The system model dynamics is derived and simulated in order to learn its essentials needed for designing the management and control architecture. The multilayer architecture including actuators of the control signals is derived and discussed. A model predictive control is proposed as a base for designing the control algorithms.

Sewer systems are large-scale systems that collect and transport stormwater and sanitary sewage out of urban areas. Sewer systems are mainly operated using pumping stations and pollutants are removed from sewage by treatment plants before water is released into the environment. When a sewer overflow occurs, e.g., caused by a strong rainfall, sewage is discharged directly into the environment without any treatment. An efficient use of storage capacities and pumping stations can help to minimize the environmental pollution caused by sewer overflows. In this paper a nonlinear predictive control approach is presented to improve the operation of sewer systems. To deal with the nonlinear and non-differentiable features of the prediction model used, a pattern search method is proposed to solve the underlying optimization problem. The technique proposed is implemented on a part of the sewer system of Bogotá, Columbia. Simulation results illustrate the potential of the approach.

Spectrum pooling, which allows the secondary networks to utilize the available spectrum bands from different licensed networks, is one of the most promising technologies for dynamic spectrum sharing in cognitive radio systems. Most previous work on spectrum pooling concentrates on the system architecture and the design of flexible access algorithms and schemes. In this paper, a distributed scheme for optimal internetwork spectrum sharing among multiple cognitive radio systems is proposed. Besides, the spectrum access price and spectrum efficiency are considered as the design criteria in the proposed scheme. The spectrum sharing problem is formulated as a restless bandits system, which dramatically reduces the computational complexity by simply allocating the new available band to the secondary network with the lowest index. Furthermore, extensive simulation results illustrate the significant performance improvement of the proposed scheme improves compared to the existing scheme.

This paper addresses the dissolved oxygen tracking problem in multi-zone bioreactor. The proposed approach utilizes decentralized control system incorporating fuzzy multiregional PI controllers so that satisfactory controller performance can be robustly and reliably achieved over a whole process operating range. A fuzzy supervisor of the completely decentralized control system is introduced in order to meet a global actuator capacity constraint. An overall control system can be implemented by using fairly standard equipment that is commonly available at a plant site.

The aeration is used in different operations at wastewater treatment plants. The biological processes that are carried out at require sufficiently high dissolved oxygen concentration in order to maintain microorganisms in an activated sludge. The paper proposes a centralized nonlinear model predictive controller of dissolved oxygen tracking and aeration system control. The controller is applied to wastewater treatment plant at Nowy Dwor Gdanski and its performance is compared with the performance of the control system that is currently applied at this site.
