In this paper, riding comfort of an omnidirectional wheelchair (OMW) driven by joystick is studied for the case when OMW moves in X direction, Y direction, or in a slanting direction. In order to achieve the comfort driving specific spectrum elements such as natural frequency of OMW and discomfort frequency of human organs are suppressed. In order to evaluate the comfort, a human model which considers human upper body composed of two parts: torso and head, has been developed and used in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The design of a robust controller for a VSC HVDC terminal using LMI based robust H 2 and multi-objective H 2 – H ∞ design methods is described. The operating range of the terminal is first characterised as an uncertainty region around a linear nominal model using the operating points of a non-linear model. The performance and robustness of controllers designed using the two methods and the effects of approximations in the uncertainty region definition are then described and compared. The best trade-off between robustness and performance on the non-linear model is demonstrated to be achieved using the robust H 2 method

A neural network based method of modeling hysteresis in piezo-electrical actuator is proposed. In this method, a hysteretic operator is introduced to transform the multi-valued mapping of hysteresis into a one-to-one mapping so that neural networks can be utilized to approximate the characteristic of hysteresis. The result of modeling the hysteresis exists in a piezo-electrical actuator using the proposed method is finally presented.

This paper presents an acceleration control of an electrodynamic shaker that cannot employ the iteration control method freely. There are considerable points in the design phase of the acceleration controller. The transfer functions using the acceleration controlled variable have zero at the origin and two crossover frequencies. It is not easy to design the acceleration controller by using the conventional design method directly. The controller is designed by using μ–synthesis based on these points. Further, a two degrees of freedom controller is designed to improve the transient response. Finally, the experiment using an actual electrodynamic shaker is carried out. A comparison between the proposed controller and the controller derived from the iteration control method is shown.

This paper developed an adaptive estimation method to estimate unknown disturbances in a class of nonminimum phase nonlinear MIMO systems. The unknown disturbances are generated by an unknown linear exosystem. The frequencies, phases and amplitudes of the disturbances are unknown, the only available information of the disturbances is the number of distinctive frequencies. The system considered in this paper is a class of MIMO nonlinear systems in the output feedback form, the system can be nonminimum phase. The proposed estimation algorithm provides exponentially convergent estimates of system states, unknown disturbances in the system and frequencies of the disturbances characterized by the eigenvalues of the exosystem. Moreover, the disturbance rejection control law is constructed by combining the stabilization controller designed without considering the disturbances and the estimates of the disturbances. The control law compensates the unknown disturbances completely while maintains the stability of the whole closed-loop system.
