Ploidy determination across the genome has been challenging for low-pass-WGS tumor-only samples. We present BACDAC, a method that calculates tumor ploidy down to 1.2X effective tumor coverage. Allele fraction patterns displayed in the Constellation Plot verify tumor ploidy and reveal subclonal populations. BACDAC outputs a metric, 2NLOH, that when combined with ploidy better distinguishes near-diploid from high-ploidy tumors. Validated using TCGA, BACDAC had good agreement with other methods and 88% agreement with experimental methods. Discrepancies occur mainly when BACDAC predicts diploidy with subclones rather than high-ploidy. Applied to 653 low-pass-WGS samples spanning 12 cancer subtypes, BACDAC calls 40% as high-ploidy.

Localization and exploration of robotic systems has been a highly active research area in recent years. In order to explore unknown environments with better precision, a robotic system employing surveillance and flying cameras is proposed in this paper. Specifically, a mobile robot equipped with an onboard monocular camera performs visual simultaneous localization and mapping with extended Kalman filtering (EKF-VSLAM) and moves from indoor to outdoor environments. To correct the estimation errors of the system during the task, a least squares-based correction approach is proposed. The proposed robotic system employs surveillance cameras in indoor environment and a flying camera in outdoor environment to correct estimation error from the onboard monocular camera. The proposed correction approach, integrated with the conventional EKF-VSLAM, has been validated by experiments demonstrating better precision. © 2018 The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers - SICE.

3D point clouds consisting of a lot of informatively geometric data have been playing critical roles in many applications such as 3D segmentation, polyline annotation for lane tracking, and especially in manufacturing industry. In particular, this paper proposes to apply Reinforcement Learning (RL) to resolve an automated assembly task based on 3D point cloud data. To address this task, the proposed structure is separated into 2 stages including registration stage and assembly path planning stage. Firstly, in the registration stage, one of the objects is matched to an assembled model to determine the transformation between two 3D point clouds by using RANdom Sample Consensus (RANSAC) and Iterative Closet Point (ICP). Secondly, we employ Q-learning method to train a model to make optimal decisions in assemble path planning task. The entire optimized assembly path planning task has been successfully accomplished for typical objects. Finally, the performance of the approach developed in this paper has been validated by experiments. © 2018 IEEE.

This study is related to a system that enables elderly people to communicate interactively with young people who use existing message exchange services by simply speaking to an avatar on a tablet PC, without having to perform complicated operations of the tablet PC. On the other hand, the young people side can bring in elderly people who could not previously participate in existing message exchange services groups. The effectiveness of the system was verified through demonstration experiments with two households consisting of elderly people in their 80s. © 2022 IEEE.

Integrated constructive and virtual simulations are becoming popular for tactical training in the military domain. An important aspect concerning the integration of these simulation models in the construction of virtual tactical simulations is the modelling and implementation of different kinds of semi-autonomous agents. A fundamental feature of these agents is the capability of intelligently and realistically modelling task-oriented navigation activities in large virtual terrain simulation environments, while following underlying military doctrine and tactics. This paper reviews important navigation issues that emerge in such simulation systems and prominent Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques that have been explored to solve them. From this analysis, a hybrid, semi-autonomous navigation framework is proposed aiming to fulfil the needs of virtual tactical training simulations, more specifically, in the military domain. As implemented in a system for the virtual tactical simulation of artillery battery tasks, the framework shows how to overcome the challenges of implementing realistic global and local navigation behaviours for military units and, at the same time, it shows that the semi-autonomous behaviours implemented are of primary importance to allow interaction with users for learning purposes in the simulation exercises. In this paper we describe a novel clutter cancellation platform based on a two stage approach that combines a feedback guided predictive front-end hybrid clutter canceller with high performance back-end filtering and target detection. The front-end architecture is based on an FPGA implementation of a Kalman filter that predicts target locations in real time and removes the target signals from the incoming data prior to hybrid cancellation. The back-end is user configurable and exploits high performance GPU and multi-core parallel hardware to simultaneously compute multiple clutter suppression and target detection algorithms coupled to an intelligent selection strategy for selecting the most accurate result. These target locations are fed back to the FPGA Kalman filter periodically to update the target predictions. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we performed a simulation for a physical resistive random-access device (RRAM) to propose an improved model representing its electrical characteristics. Voltage ThrEshold Adaptive Memristor (VTEAM) model that operates based on the voltage threshold of the device adapted for the RRAM simulation. We applied some physical features to the model to adjust the internal state variable to improve the simulation results. The internal state variable used in the model was designed after the physical feature such as the distance between the end of the filament and the electrode of the device. Therefore, applying some of these physical conditions affects the simulation results. Simulation results with the newly applied model showed optimized I-V characteristics that resemble the physical device's behavior more than the existing model. © 2022 IEEE.
