Lung cancer is a leading cause of global mortality *** detection of pulmonary tumors can significantly enhance the survival rate of ***,various computer-Aided Diagnostic(CAD)methods have been developed to enhance the detection of pulmonary nodules with high ***,the existing method-ologies cannot obtain a high level of specificity and *** present study introduces a novel model for Lung Cancer Segmentation and Classification(LCSC),which incorporates two improved architectures,namely the improved U-Net architecture and the improved AlexNet *** LCSC model comprises two distinct *** first stage involves the utilization of an improved U-Net architecture to segment candidate nodules extracted from the lung ***,an improved AlexNet architecture is employed to classify lung *** the first stage,the proposed model demonstrates a dice accuracy of 0.855,a precision of 0.933,and a recall of 0.789 for the segmentation of candidate *** suggested improved AlexNet architecture attains 97.06%accuracy,a true positive rate of 96.36%,a true negative rate of 97.77%,a positive predictive value of 97.74%,and a negative predictive value of 96.41%for classifying pulmonary cancer as either benign or *** proposed LCSC model is tested and evaluated employing the publically available dataset furnished by the Lung Image database Consortium and Image database Resource Initiative(LIDC-IDRI).This proposed technique exhibits remarkable performance compared to the existing methods by using various evaluation parameters.

South Africa faces a critical shortage of blood donors, leading to substantial deficits in the national blood supply. Blood donations are vital for the treatment of life-threatening conditions, making it crucial to develop efficient models for the management of blood stocks. This paper presents a mathematical model to optimize blood donation and ensure sufficient supply to meet fluctuating demands. The model captures the complex interactions within the blood banking system, focusing on minimizing costs, reducing waste, and efficiently distributing blood units. Specifically, it addresses daily supply challenges by minimizing the need for emergency imports and reducing blood wastage due to expiration while meeting all demand requirements. The core objective is to minimize blood wastage and reduce the reliance on imported blood banks during emergencies. The proposed objective function incorporates variables such as emergency importation and expiration rates, and robust optimization techniques are applied to identify optimal solutions while satisfying operational constraints. Symbiotic Organism Search (SOS), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) methods are utilized for optimization. Among these, SOS demonstrated superior performance, achieving the lowest levels of importation and wastage. However, the algorithms were unable to significantly reduce supply levels due to the accumulation of excess stock from the previous day, which carried over into the next day. This paper provides valuable information on blood supply management and highlights the potential for optimization techniques to improve efficiency and sustainability in blood banking. © 2024 CEUR-WS. What is the widest community in which a person exercises a strong impact? Although extensive attention has been devoted to searching communities containing given individuals, the problem of finding their unique communities of influence has barely been examined. In this paper, we study the novel problem of Characteristic cOmmunity Discovery (COD) in attributed graphs. Our goal is to identify the largest community, taking into account the query attribute, in which the query node has a significant impact. The key challenge of the COD problem is that it requires evaluating the influence of the query node over a large number of hierarchically structured communities. We first propose a novel compressed COD evaluation approach to accelerate the influence estimation by eliminating redundant computations for overlapping communities. Then, we further devise a local hierarchical reclustering method to alleviate the skewness of hierarchical communities generated by global clustering for a specific query attribute. Extensive experiments confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of our solutions to COD: they find characteristic communities better than existing community search methods by several quality measures and achieve up to 25 x speedups against well-crafted baselines. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of hardware devices and the upgrading of smartphones,a large number of users save privacy-related information in mobile devices,mainly smartphones,which puts forward higher demands on the protection of mobile users’privacy *** present,mobile user authenticationmethods based on humancomputer interaction have been extensively studied due to their advantages of high precision and non-perception,but there are still shortcomings such as low data collection efficiency,untrustworthy participating nodes,and lack of *** this end,this paper proposes a privacy-enhanced mobile user authentication method with motion sensors,which mainly includes:(1)Construct a smart contract-based private chain and federated learning to improve the data collection efficiency of mobile user authentication,reduce the probability of the model being bypassed by attackers,and reduce the overhead of data centralized processing and the risk of privacy leakage;(2)Use certificateless encryption to realize the authentication of the device to ensure the credibility of the client nodes participating in the calculation;(3)Combine Variational Mode Decomposition(VMD)and Long Short-TermMemory(LSTM)to analyze and model the motion sensor data of mobile devices to improve the accuracy of model *** experimental results on the real environment dataset of 1513 people show that themethod proposed in this paper can effectively resist poisoning attacks while ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of mobile user authentication.

Video object segmentation aims to extract 2D object masks by segmenting video frames into multiple objects, which is crucial in various practical applications such as medical imaging, etc.. However, traditional video object segmentation methods produce 2D masks, which are not suitable for 3D scenarios where depth information is essential, such as in robotic grasping, virtual reality, and autonomous driving, etc.. In this paper, we present a comprehensive review of 3D human mesh reconstruction (HMR) as an extension beyond 2D video object segmentation. We begin by reviewing the mainstream video object segmentation methods, then transition from 2D video object segmentation to 3D HMR. We further categorize recent HMR methods based on key characteristics that define this research field, including the type of model input and the use of statistical models. Mobile Edge computing (MEC) offers low-latency and high-bandwidth support for Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) applications. However, due to high vehicle mobility and finite communication coverage of base stations, it is hard to maintain uninterrupted and high-quality services without proper service migration among MEC servers. Existing solutions commonly rely on prior knowledge and rarely consider efficient resource allocation during the service migration process, making it hard to reach optimal performance in dynamic IoV environments. To address these important challenges, we propose SR-CL, a novel mobility-aware seamless Service migration and Resource allocation framework via Convex-optimization-enabled deep reinforcement Learning in multi-edge IoV systems. First, we decouple the Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem of service migration and resource allocation into two sub-problems. Next, we design a new actor-critic-based asynchronous-update deep reinforcement learning method to handle service migration, where the delayed-update actor makes migration decisions and the one-step-update critic evaluates the decisions to guide the policy update. Notably, we theoretically derive the optimal resource allocation with convex optimization for each MEC server, thereby further improving system performance. Using the real-world datasets of vehicle trajectories and testbed, extensive experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed SR-CL. Compared to benchmark methods, the SR-CL achieves superior convergence and delay performance under various scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.

While the multi-view 3D reconstruction task has made significant progress, existing methods simply fuse multi-view image features without effectively leveraging available auxiliary information, especially the viewpoint information for guiding and associating features of different views. To this end, we propose to enhance multi-view 3D reconstruction with the power of viewpoint information. Specifically, a simple-yet-effective viewpoint estimator is designed to learn and provide comprehensive viewpoint knowledge for locating and associating learned features from different views. Moreover, to improve the 3D reconstruction quality when 2D images of only very few viewpoints are available, we propose to learn the shape prior knowledge to provide sufficient shape information for compensating the limited 2D observations. Overall, we present VIPNet, benefiting from Viewpoint information and Shape Prior learning for high-quality multi-view 3D reconstruction. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed VIPNet, which achieves state-of-the-art performance on challenging datasets and shows well generalization ability in real-world scenarios. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Rapid growth of information and communication technology (ICT) has raised concerns about its impact on the environment. This includes devices such as personal computers, servers, data centers, handheld devices, telephones, and printers. Green computing, a critical initiative in the digital age, aims to reduce energy consumption, electronic waste, and promote environmentally responsible practices throughout the IT lifecycle, thereby mitigating the environmental impact of IT systems. To address these concerns, there has been a growing focus on green computing. Green computing involves using computing resources more efficiently without sacrificing performance. However, the adoption and promotion of green ICT technology have been limited to other industries in Africa. This article aims to explore what African regions are doing to implement and adopt green information and communications technology (ICT). The findings show that South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, and Egypt are making significant progress in the development and adoption of green ICT. They are also playing a crucial role in African development with the support of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The study suggests alternative solutions to increase the adoption of green ICT and expedite its development in Africa. Additionally, the study proposes that Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria join BRICS as additional members.

In this paper, we introduce the IMPortance-awaReness maskIng NeTwork (IMPRINT), a novel approach to enhance the robustness of document retrieval systems against query variations, particularly those containing misspellings. Unlike previous models that treat all query components (words/features) equally, IMPRINT prioritizes the most important components while masking out less relevant ones. Specifically, we propose a Mutual information-based measure to quantify component importance and integrate it into a dynamic masking mechanism that adjusts the retention probability of each component. Our method is evaluated on a combination of three benchmark datasets and three types of query variations. The experimental results show substantial performance gains compared to state-of-the-art models, achieving an average improvement of 1.2 absolute MRR@10 points in retrieval accuracy. © 2025 IEEE.
