Many students find mathematics a difficult subject. In the context of Caribbean countries, the failure rate in mathematics has been very high. This paper discusses the creation of a personalized game-based mobile learning application to assist secondary school students in improving their mathematical skills. The aim of this application is to motivate and encourage students to practise mathematics. The personalization part of the system helps students to navigate the system easily and recommends specific features of the application that may best suit them. The game aspect of the system aims at making learning fun.

Utilizing virtualization technology to combine real-time operating system (RTOS) and off-the-shelf time-sharing general purpose operating system (GPOS) is attracting much more interest recently. Such combination has the potential to provide a large application base, and to guarantee timely deterministic response to real-time applications, yet there is no convincible experimental result about its real-time property. In this paper, we analyze the interrupt latency of RTOS running on Linux KVM based on some preliminary tunings, and find out System Management Interrupt (SMI) is the main factor which makes the maximum latency unideal, so we propose a method to limit the worst-case interrupt latency in an acceptable interval. Furthermore, we also find out that boosting priority may result in wastes of CPU resources when RTOS is not executing real-time tasks, so we design a co-scheduling mechanism to improve the CPU throughput of the GPOS system. ©2010 IEEE.

Over the last few years, the deployment of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has been fostered in diverse applications. WSN has great potential for a variety of domains ranging from scientific experiments to commercial applications. Due to the deployment of WSNs in dynamic and unpredictable environments, these applications must have potential to cope with variety of faults. This paper proposes an energy-aware fault-tolerant clustering protocol for target tracking applications termed as the Fault-Tolerant Target Tracking (FTTT) protocol. The identification of redundant nodes (RNs) makes sensor node (SN) fault tolerance plausible and the clustering endorsed recovery of sensors supervised by a faulty cluster head (CH). The FTTT protocol intends two steps of reducing energy consumption: first, by identifying RNs in the network; secondly, by restricting the numbers of SNs sending data to the CH. Simulations validate the scalability and low power consumption of the FTTT protocol in comparison with LEACH protocol.

In this work a decision support tool for optimal administration of Levodopa (L-Dopa) in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) is presented. The so called Medication Change Proposer (MCP) is part of the PERFORM system, which monitors patient's motion status using a set of wearable sensors, assesses PD symptoms and their severity through dedicated symptoms detection modules (On-Off detection and LevodopaInduced Dyskinesia detection), and proposes treatment plans to alleviate the symptoms. The methodology is based on the analysis of the outputs of the symptoms detection modules, taking into account the uncertainty (confidence) propagated by their respective classification algorithms. The evaluation of our methodology is performed using artificial follow-up data produced by a specially built simulation environment. The obtained results demonstrate that the MCP outputs compare well with the experts' decisions, indicating high performance. © 2010 IEEE.

Dense collection of tiny Sensor Nodes (SNs), equipped with a variety of sensors are able to sense events, compute and communicate the estimations to the end user, form a distributed Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The advances in WSNs have made it plausible to appraise critical aspects of object tracking WSNs that are continuous monitoring of object track and fault tolerance. This paper presents probabilistic performance evaluation of clustering, redundancy reduction, target tracking and fault tolerance phases of Fault-Tolerant Target Tracking (FTTT) protocol. This type of formal modeling with limited number of SNs helps to plan a scalable network with specific constraints related to the application, for example, object tracking quality, life time of the network, energy consumption, latency, QoS and network throughput.

Due to the geographical distribution, different cognitive capacity, and different domain competency of workers or learners, many misunderstandings can occur during distributed remote collaboration, leading to inefficient discussions and undesired results. To make remote collaboration more efficient and dependable, enriching cyberspace through adaptively utilizing is proposed and evaluated. This assesses situations of remote users through information fusion of multiple biological sensors and the related contexts such as user profiles. Transmitting and using such information, the system adaptively supports the distributed remote collaboration by stressing, warning, and presenting keywords/summaries in multimedia. Effects of presenting keywords/summaries adaptively depending on situations and cognitive profiles of remote members are evaluated as to the decrease of not-/misunderstanding possibilities during the explanation on the Cyberspace. The evaluation demonstrates the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method.

Discovery is the task of locating (Web) Services by means of their semantic annotation. Semantic Web Services (SWS) annotate semantic information about their functionality through capability descriptions (e.g. WSMO, OWL-S). Many approaches of automatic discovery and composition of business services take advantage from SWS. However, discovery and composition of general services or discovery based on other service aspects as functionality are neglected. The paper introduces models of a Discovery Framework called ACTAS (Adaptive Composition and Trading based on Agents), which allows the matching through semantic characteristics and algorithms. Semantic service characteristics, published through an ontological repository, wrap service property objects and constraints. The description of services with the SWS interface needs rather an expert (e.g. in description logic (DL)). Semantic Service Characteristics can offer interfaces adapted for a definite user groups or domains. They allow the keeping of domain specific ontologies.

We present LM, a tool for mining scenario-based specifications in the form of Live Sequence Charts, a visual language that extends sequence diagrams with modalities. LM comes with a project management component, a wizard-like interface to the mining algorithm, a set of pre- and post-processing extensions, and a visualization module.

The AAAI-10 workshop program was held on July 11-12, 2010, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop program included 13 workshops covering a wide range of topics in artificial intelligence. There were several presentations on particular formalisms for combining the levels of planning from the perspectives of classical planning, motion planning, POMDPs, search-based planning, and temporal logic-based constraints. Henry Lieberman from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory presented work developing a platform for knowledge acquisition and usage from expert users, built upon experience with eliciting information from nonexperts in a collaborative manner. The objective of the AAAI Workshop on Goal-Directed Autonomy (GDA) was to encourage discussion and novel contributions on intelligent agents that can self-select their goals. Jeremy Baxter from QinetiQ focused on user interaction, while Nick Hawes described a goal-directed reasoning framework for controlling a mobile robot.
