Fast hybrid fitting energy-based active contour model for target detection

A novel hybrid fitting energy-based active contour model in the level set framework is proposed. The method fuses the region and boundary information of the target to achieve accurate and robust detection performance. A special extra term that penalizes the deviation of the level set function from a signed distance function is also included in our method. This term allows the time-consuming redistancing operation to be removed completely. Moreover, a fast unconditionally stable numerical scheme is introduced to solve the problem. Experimental results on real infrared images show that our method can improve target detection performance efficiently in terms of the number of iterations and the wasted central processing unit （CPU） time.

Aiming at the problem that the existing labeled multi-Bernoulli(LMB) method has a single and fixed model set, an LMB maneuvering target tracking algorithm via Takagi-Sugeno-Kang(TSK) iterative regression multiple model is proposed. In the TSK iterative regression modeling, the feature information of the targets is analyzed and represented by multiple semantic fuzzy sets. Then the state is expanded to introduce model information, thereby the adaptive multi-model idea is incorporated into the framework of the LMB method to solve the uncertain maneuverability of moving targets. Finally,the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively achieve maneuvering target tracking in the nonlinear system.

Background: The hierarchy and segregation of community-based brain networks can be characterized by functional connectome gradient (FCG). Whether the cortical FCG was disrupted and could even be reversed after prolonged abstinence in substance use disorders (SUDs) remained unclear. Less is known about the underlying genetic basis. Methods: We utilized three independent datasets (n = 247) to investigate cortical FCG dysfunction and recovery after prolonged abstinence in methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) (n = 131), and validated in heroin use disorder (HUD) (n = 36). Furthermore, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) was employed to test the relationship between the glutamate in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and cortical FCG. Postmortem gene expression was utilized to assess the transcriptional profiles related to cortical FCG alterations. Support vector regression (SVR) model based on the baseline cortical FCG was built to predict craving changes after long-term abstinence. Results: MUD and HUD individuals exhibited similar cortical FCG dysfunction and recovery at global and network levels, mainly in dorsal and ventral attentions network (DAN and VAN), frontoparietal network (FPN) and default mode network (DMN). The glutamate levels in VTA were correlated with the gradient distance between FPN and limbic network (LIM). The transcriptional profiles explained variance of the altered gradient pattern, with the most related genes enriched in synaptic signaling. Baseline cortical FCG significantly predicted craving changes after long-term abstinence. Conclusions: We provided novel insights into the understanding of SUD as treatable health conditions from cortical FCG changes, which could be considered as the potential biomarkers of craving changes after prolonged abstinence for SUDs. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.

Subcellular localization of proteins can provide key hints to infer their functions and structures in cells. With the breakthrough of recent molecule imaging techniques, the usage of 2D bioimages has become increasingly popular in automatically analyzing the protein subcellular location pat- terns. Compared with the widely used protein 1D amino acid sequence data, the images of protein distribution are more intuitive and interpretable, making the images a better choice at many applications for revealing the dynamic char- acteristics of proteins, such as detecting protein translocation and quantification of proteins. In this paper, we systemati- cally reviewed the recent progresses in the field of automated image-based protein subcellular location prediction, and clas- sified them into four categories including growing of bioim- age databases, description of subcellular location distribution patterns, classification methods, and applications of the pre- diction systems. Besides, we also discussed some potential directions in this field.

Motion cue based pedestrian detection with two-frame-filtering

This study proposes a motion cue based pedestrian detection method with two-trame-filtering （Tff） for video surveillance. The novel motion cue is exploited by the gray value variation between two frames. Then Tff processing filters the gradient magnitude image by the variation map. Summa- tions of the Tff gradient magnitudes in cells are applied to train a pre-deteetor to exclude most of the background regions. Histogram of Tff oriented gradient （HTffOG） feature is proposed for pedestrian detection. Experimental results show that this method is effective and suitable for real-time surveil- lance applications.

Mem Brain: An Easy-to-Use Online Webserver for Transmembrane Protein Structure Prediction

Membrane proteins are an important kind of proteins embedded in the membranes of cells and play crucial roles in living organisms, such as ion channels,transporters, receptors. Because it is difficult to determinate the membrane protein's structure by wet-lab experiments,accurate and fast amino acid sequence-based computational methods are highly desired. In this paper, we report an online prediction tool called Mem Brain, whose input is the amino acid sequence. Mem Brain consists of specialized modules for predicting transmembrane helices, residue–residue contacts and relative accessible surface area of a-helical membrane proteins. Mem Brain achieves aprediction accuracy of 97.9% of ATMH, 87.1% of AP,3.2 ± 3.0 of N-score, 3.1 ± 2.8 of C-score. Mem BrainContact obtains 62%/64.1% prediction accuracy on training and independent dataset on top L/5 contact prediction,respectively. And Mem Brain-Rasa achieves Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.733 and its mean absolute error of13.593. An Adaptive Regulation Problem and Its Application

This paper studies an adaptive regulation problem for the modified FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model under external electrical stimulation. We first present the solution of the global robust output regulation problem for output feedback system with an uncertain exosystem which models the external electrical stimulation with unknown frequency and amplitude. Then, we show that the robust control problem for the modified FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model can be formulated as the global robust output regulation problem and the solvability conditions for the output regulation problem for the modified FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model are all satisfied. Then, we apply the obtained output regulation result to constructing an output feedback control law for the modified FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model to achieve global stability of the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertain parameters and external stimulus. An example is given to show that the proposed algorithm can completely reject the external electrical stimulation.

In order to classify the objects in nature images, a model with color constancy and principle component analysis network (PCANet) is proposed. The new color constancy model imitates the functional properties of the HVS from the retina to the double-opponent cells in V1. PCANet can be designed and learned extremely, which comprises only the very basic data processing components: cascaded principal component analysis (PCA), binary hashing, and block-wise histograms. At last, a SVM is trained to classify the object in the image. The results of experiments demonstrate the potential of the model for object classification in wild color images. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this work, a kernel principle component analysis network (KPCANet) is proposed for classification of the facial expression in unconstrained images, which comprises only the very basic data processing components: cascaded kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), binary hashing, and block-wise histograms. In the proposed model, KPCA is employed to learn multistage filter banks. It is followed by simple binary hashing and block histograms for indexing and pooling. For comparison and better understanding, We have tested these basic networks extensively on many benchmark visual datasets(such as the JAFFE [13] database, the CMU AMP face expression database, a part of the Extended Cohn-Kanade (CK+) database), The results demonstrate the potential of the KPCANet serving as a simple but highly competitive baseline for facial expression recognition. © 2014 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
