Stroke and heart attack, which could be led by a kind of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease named asatherosclerosis, would seriously cause human morbidity and mortality. And the carotid artery of intima-media thickness (IMT) is a key indicator to the disease. With the development of computer assisted diagnosis (CAD) technology, Ultrasound imaging, being real-time, economic, reliable, safe, and now seems to become a standard in vascular assessment methodology especially for the measurement of IMT. This review is an attempt to discuss the clinical relevance of measurements in clinical practice at first, and then followed by the challenges that one has to face when approaching the segmentation of ultrasound images. Secondly, the paper is presentation of common used methods for the IMT segmentation and measurement. An overview of summary and future perspectives is given in conclusion finally.

This paper presents an occlusion robust image representation method and apply it to face recognition. Inspired from the recent work [15], we propose a Gabor phase difference representation for occlusion robust face recognition. Based on the good ability of Gabor filters to capture image structure and the robustness to image occlusion shown in this paper, Gabor phase features are expected to be discriminative and robust for face representation in occlusion case. Besides, we adopt spectral regression based discriminant analysis with the extracted Gabor phase features to find the most discriminant subspace to classify different faces. In this way, an occlusion robust face image discriminant subspace is derived. Extensive experiments with various occlusion cases show the efficacy of the proposed method.

A hybrid method is used to evaluate atherosclerosis through a mathematical morphology approach and GVF-Snake method. Common carotid artery (CCA) segmentation requires outlining the intima and adventitia contours on the transverse view of B-mode ultrasound (US) images. The lumen and adventitia contours are segmented using a morphology and GVF-Snake methods, respectively. Upon analyzing ten separate patient data sets demonstrate that a comparison between the proposed method and the traditional approach (manual contouring) on 110 transverse images of the CCA showed a mean absolute distance (MAD) of 0.67±0.17mm for lumen and 0.64 ± 0.19mm for adventitia. Their Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) values are 92.7%±2.3% and 90.3%±3.5% for lumen and adventitia segmentation, respectively. These values are in good agreement with clinical standards.

In clinical practice, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a powerful technique for the visualization of blood vessels in X-ray image sequences. Different with traditional DSA image registration processes, in our proposed image registration method, the control points are selected from the vessel centerlines using multiscale Gabor filters, and mutual information (MI) is then taken as the similarity criterion to find the correspondences. Experimental results demonstrate our algorithm efficiently yields satisfying registration result for DSA images.

We present the design and fabrication of metamaterials, and investigated the normalized power transmission properties of four metamaterials at different frequency in terahertz regime. Combining the mutual information theory and the sequential hypothesis testing(SHT)method,a selfadapting radio frequency(RF)stealth signal design method is proposed. The channel information is gained through the radar echo and feeds back to the radar system,and then the radar system adaptively designs the transmission waveform. So the close-loop system is formed. The correlations between these transmission waveforms are decreased because of the adaptive change of these transmission waveforms,and the number of illuminations is reduced for adopting the SHT,which lowers the transmission power of the radar system. The radar system using the new method possesses the RF stealth performance. Aiming at the application of radar automatic target recognition(RATR),experimental simulations show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

TOWARDS CODABLE WATERMARKING FOR INJECTING MULTI-BITS information TO LLMS

As large language models (LLMs) generate texts with increasing fluency and realism, there is a growing need to identify the source of texts to prevent the abuse of LLMs. Text watermarking techniques have proven reliable in distinguishing whether a text is generated by LLMs by injecting hidden patterns. However, we argue that existing LLM watermarking methods are encoding-inefficient and cannot flexibly meet the diverse information encoding needs (such as encoding model version, generation time, user id, etc.). In this work, we conduct the first systematic study on the topic of Codable Text Watermarking for LLMs (CTWL) that allows text watermarks to carry multi-bit customizable information. First of all, we study the taxonomy of LLM watermarking technologies and give a mathematical formulation for CTWL. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive evaluation system for CTWL: (1) watermarking success rate, (2) robustness against various corruptions, (3) coding rate of payload information, (4) encoding and decoding efficiency, (5) impacts on the quality of the generated text. To meet the requirements of these non-Pareto-improving metrics, we follow the most prominent vocabulary partition-based watermarking direction, and devise an advanced CTWL method named Balance-Marking. The core idea of our method is to use a proxy language model to split the vocabulary into probability-balanced parts, thereby effectively maintaining the quality of the watermarked text. Extensive experimental results show that our method outperforms the baseline under comprehensive evaluation. The analysis of the carotid artery wall is of paramount importance in clinical practice. Especially, the intima-media thickness is a risk index for some of the most severe acute cerebrovascular pathologies, hence, an accurate segmentation of the different layers of the carotid artery is needed. IMT is usually manually measured on longitudinal B-mode ultrasound images. In the past ten years, many computer-based techniques for intima-media thickness measurement have been proposed to overcome the limits of manual segmentation, but almost all of them require a certain degree of user interaction. In this paper we proposed a novel approach for the completely user-independent segmentation of the common carotid artery wall. Our algorithm is designed for the extraction of the intima and media layers of the distal carotid wall in ultrasound images. It is based on integrated approach consisting of common carotid artery region identification, contour initialization with threshold segmentation, intima-lumen segmentation with Snake, and media-adventitia segmentation with GVF-Snake that enables the automated tracing of the carotid walls. The acoustic impedance's difference is employed to locate common carotid artery region. Finally, the characterization of the algorithm in terms of segmentation error was evaluated with a set of 40 common carotid artery ultrasound images and compared to the segmentation traced by a trained operator. Experiments showed that a mean error lower than 1.3 pixel both on the intima and media layers was obtained, which is comparable to that obtained by means of operator dependent techniques.

License plate recognition (LPR) remains a challenging task in face of some difficulties such as image deformation and multi-line character distribution. Text rectification that is crucial to eliminate the effects of image deformation has attracted increasing attentions in scene text recognition. However, current text rectification methods are not designed specifically for LPR, which did not take the features of plate deformation into account. Considering the fact that a license plate (LP) can only generate perspective distortion in the image due to its rigid feature, in this paper we propose a novel perspective rectification network (PRN) to automatically estimate the perspective transformation and rectify the distorted LP accordingly. For recognition, we propose a location-aware 2D attention based recognition network that is capable of recognizing both single-line and double-line plates with perspective deformation. The rectification network and recognition network are connected for end-to-end training. Experiments on common datasets show that the proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In heterogeneous scenes with latent non-deterministic states, template features determine the performance of the Siamese network-based trackers, however, background noise is easily introduced in the search area matching process, which causes the trackers lack sufficient discrimination. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an object tracking algorithm based on the cyclic memory module. Firstly, the extracted primary features are mapped to the cyclic spatial memory network, the spatial memory unit is used to store the interference components. On this basis, the cyclic structure is used to filter out the interference components and refine the template features. Then a channel correlation network is introduced into the proposed method, which can mine semantic complementary information and capture global contextual relevance by modeling the positive and the negative correlation between the channels. The experimental results on tracking benchmarks such as OTB50, OTB100, UAV123, VOT2018, GOT10k, and LaSOT have shown that the proposed method outperforms recent representative algorithms in tracking accuracy in challenging scenarios. © 2023 Elsevier GmbH
