The swift advancement of distributed computing has enhanced the support for big data and massive-scale models. Yet, delivering superior services to manage large and intricate network flows in data center networks remains a formidable challenge. In this paper, we present ReQ-tank, an intricate flow scheduling approach based on a multi-level feedback queue (MLFQ) devised to achieve flow prioritization and efficient flow scheduling. ReQ-tank employs a two-tier scheduling strategy: On the flow scheduling layer, priority queues are segmented into two categories, and the flows within high-priority queues follow a strict priority scheduling, while those in low-priority queues adhere to differential weighted Round-robin scheduling; On the packet scheduling layer, ReQ-tank modifies the priority of initially high-priority re-transmitted packets to facilitate fine-grained data packet scheduling. We carry out simulation experiments on web search workloads and data mining workloads. Experimental results demonstrate that ReQ-tank can curtail packet wait time in the network, significantly truncate the flow completion time (FCT) of delay-sensitive flows and counteract the issue of flow starvation in traditional strict priority queues. Consequently, ReQ-tank is deemed more suitable for complex distributed network applications.

The differences in the structure and composition materials of landslide dams often lead to great dissimilarity in dam stability, which often depend on the dynamic accumulation process of landslide dam. In order to investigate the response of dynamic characteristics of landslide to the composition material distribution of landslide dams, the migration and accumulation process of rock slopes with two weathering degrees was simulated by bonded particles and micro-cracks based on discrete element modelling. A new reconstructed distribution identification method was proposed in this paper to quantify the grain size distribution of dam. The results showed that the composition materials of dam, formed by weakly weathered slope, was poorly sorted, with medium particles located in surface layer, coarse particles located in middle and fine particles located in bottom of the valley. The material composition of dam, formed by strongly weathered slope, was well sorted, which spatial distribution showed well reverse segregation structure. It was found that the differences in particle size distribution between two kinds of landslide dams were mainly manifested in fine particles and coarse particles. The kinetic disintegration in weakly weathered slope was weakened, due to the accumulation of force coupling below hard rock at substrate, which occurred because of the fragmentation of particles aside it. As a result, there are more coarse particles and fewer fine particles in grain size distribution of its accumulation dam. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the structure and materials distribution of landslide dams, and assists the prediction of the stability of landslide dams. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The task of long-term action anticipation demands solutions that can effectively model temporal dynamics over extended periods while deeply understanding the inherent semantics of actions. Traditional approaches, which primarily rely on recurrent units or Transformer layers to capture long-term dependencies, often fall short in addressing these challenges. Large Language Models (LLMs), with their robust sequential modeling capabilities and extensive commonsense knowledge, present new opportunities for long-term action anticipation. In this work, we introduce the ActionLLM framework, a novel approach that treats video sequences as successive tokens, leveraging LLMs to anticipate future actions. Our baseline model simplifies the LLM architecture by setting future tokens, incorporating an action tuning module, and reducing the textual decoder layer to a linear layer, enabling straightforward action prediction without the need for complex instructions or redundant descriptions. To further harness the commonsense reasoning of LLMs, we predict action categories for observed frames and use sequential textual clues to guide semantic understanding. In addition, we introduce a Cross-Modality Interaction Block, designed to explore the specificity within each modality and capture interactions between vision and textual modalities, thereby enhancing multimodal tuning. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed ActionLLM framework, encouraging a promising direction to explore LLMs in the context of action anticipation. With the explosive growth of data, hundreds of thousands of servers may be contained in a single data center. Hence, node failures are unavoidable and generally negatively effects the performance of the whole data center. Additionally, data centers with a large number of nodes will cause plenty of energy consumption. Many existing task scheduling techniques can effectively reduce the power consumption in data centers by considering heat recirculation. However, the traditional techniques do not take the situation of node failures into account. This paper proposes an airflow-based failure model for data centers by leveraging heat recirculation. In this model, the spatial distribution and time distribution of failures are considered. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm (GA) and a simulated annealing algorithm (SA) are implemented to evaluate the proposed failure model. Because the positions of node failures have a significant impact on the heat recirculation and the energy consumption of data centers, failures with different positions are analyzed and evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate that the energy consumption of data centers can be significantly reduced by using the GA and SA algorithms for task scheduling based on the proposed failure model. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

More and more of our daily activities depend on smartphones and applications. Thus, an increasing number of studies are interested in whether interactive applications can be used to improve the happiness of individuals. This paper presents an application called Collect Your Happiness that is based on some positive psychology principles. It can not only enhance people's happiness by collecting their daily happy moments but provide small tasks to improve their happiness levels. A cross-cultural measurement between the Chinese and Dutch was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of this intervention by SHS, SWLS, PGWBI, and MAAS. Results show that CYH can help people from both countries improve their happiness. © 2021 IEEE.

We explore the use of a mobile furniture swarm that are intended to assist users with limited mobility in their daily indoor activities. We focus on the multi-robot coordination problem when a dense target pose configuration is required, such as in an apartment setting. In those cases, the convergence of one robot to the target can be significantly affected by neighboring robots with specific shapes. In this letter, we propose a solution, named Velocity Potential Field Modulation (VPFM), to deal with the dense coordination problem of a polytopic swarm in a decentralized manner. We adapt our method to assistive applications, such as room reconfigurations and facilitating indoor movement of wheelchair users. We evaluate the performance of our method in simulations and on real-world mobile furniture hardware, demonstrating its effectiveness and real-time performance. © 2016 IEEE.

With the acceleration of urbanization, the amount of garbage has skyrocketed. This makes the burden of sorting waste by manual means heavier and heavier, resulting in a large amount of waste accumulation. In this context, the classification of household garbage gradually received attention. In order to improve the efficiency of garbage classification, we should deal with the increasingly complicated garbage classification work and make garbage classification intelligent and efficient. In this paper, convolutional neural network intelligent algorithm is used to solve the classification problem of organic and inorganic garbage in daily life. The accuracy can reach 90.34% only with low sequence training. Compared with existing commonly used garbage classification and recognition algorithms, the proposed garbage classification and recognition algorithm has better recognition performance and is more suitable for widespread application.

The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the reentrant waves and I K1, and probe the effect of I K1 on the reentrant waves. Firstly, based on the TNNP06 model, the single pacing cell is derived by depressing I K1. And then, a 400 cells ×400 cells 2D tissue is developed by coupling the pacing cells together. Thirdly, the S1-S2 protocol is applied to inspire the reentrant waves. Next, the processes of the reentrant waves in the tissue corresponding to different I K1 are analysed. In addition, the action potentials of the cells in special locations are recorded and discussed. With the decrease of the I K1, the reentrant waves spin slowly and the period of reentrant waves increases. Meanwhile, the range of the action potential of the cells becomes larger when I K1 becomes smaller. The results suggest that with the decrease of I K1, the reentrant wave is weakened, and the systolic and diastolic functions of the tissue are enhanced at the same time. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
