Real-time vital signs (breathing and heartbeat) monitoring is essential for patient care and sleep disease prevention. Current solutions are mostly based on wearable sensors or cameras, the former affects the quality of sleep, while the latter is not conducive to privacy protection, and the cost of these methods is usually expensive. In this paper, we propose Wital, a real-time vital signs monitoring system based on the low-cost and widespread COTS WiFi device. Most of the existing WiFi-based vital signs monitoring solutions utilize the line of sight (LOS) WiFi signals to achieve powerful performance. However, in our daily environments, NLOS sensing is more common. In this article, we first model the relationship between the energy ratio of LOS/NLOS signals and the ability to monitor vital signs based on the Ricean-K theory and theoretically prove that blocking LOS signals in NLOS sensing is more beneficial. We have also established a real-time vital signs monitoring system to verify our method, and the experimental results prove the effectiveness of our method. © 2021 IEEE.

Classical simulation of quantum computation plays a critical role in numerical studies of quantum algorithms and the validation of quantum devices. Here, we introduce SW_Qsim, a tensor-network-based quantum simulator, which is designed with a two-level parallel structure for efficient implementation on the many-core New Sunway Supercomputer. We propose a minimize-memory contraction path algorithm for rectangular quantum grids to reduce the memory overhead, and provide the memory-limited simulation capacity of SW26010pro. Moreover, tensor operations are carefully optimized on the SW processor to achieve high performance. We design a fault tolerance mechanism to improve the extreme-scale parallel stability. We benchmark SW_Qsim's simulation of RQCs up to 400-qubits, achieving near-linear strong and weak scaling with up to 28.75 million cores, far beyond the previous state of the art. Our work sheds light on the development of efficient quantum algorithms for use in the physical, chemical, and engineering science fields.

Beyond Empathy: Integrating Diagnostic and Therapeutic Reasoning with Large Language Models for Mental Health Counseling

Large language models (LLMs) hold significant potential for mental health support, capable of generating empathetic responses and simulating therapeutic conversations. However, existing LLM-based approaches often lack the clinical grounding necessary for real-world psychological counseling, particularly in explicit diagnostic reasoning aligned with standards like the DSM/ICD and incorporating diverse therapeutic modalities beyond basic empathy or single strategies. To address these critical limitations, we propose PsyLLM, the first large language model designed to systematically integrate both diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning for mental health counseling. To develop the PsyLLM, we propose a novel automated data synthesis pipeline. This pipeline processes real-world mental health posts, generates multi-turn dialogue structures, and leverages LLMs guided by international diagnostic standards (e.g., DSM/ICD) and multiple therapeutic frameworks (e.g., CBT, ACT, psychodynamic) to simulate detailed clinical reasoning processes. Rigorous multi-dimensional filtering ensures the generation of high-quality, clinically aligned dialogue data. In addition, we introduce a new benchmark and evaluation protocol, assessing counseling quality across four key dimensions: comprehensiveness, professionalism, authenticity, and safety. The weakly compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is known to suffer from the pressure oscillation, which would undermine the simulation stability and accuracy. To address this issue, we propose a generalized density dissipation scheme suitable for both single-phase and multiphase flow simulations. Our approach consists of two components. Firstly, we replace the basic density dissipation with the density increment dissipation to enable numerical dissipation crossing the interfaces of different fluids in multiphase flow. Secondly, based on the dissipation volume conservation, we utilize dissipation volume correction factor (VCF) to stabilize the simulations for multiphase flows with large density ratio. We demonstrate the accuracy, stability, and robustness of our method through four three-dimensional benchmarks, i.e., the sloshing under external excitations, the single and double bubbles rising, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, and Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. Additionally, our study reveals the relationship between SPH with the density dissipation and the approximate Riemann solver. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The atomic kinetic Monte Carlo method plays an important role in multi-scale physical simulations because it bridges the micro and macro worlds. However, its accuracy is limited by empirical potentials. We therefore propose herein a triple-encoding algorithm and vacancy-cache mechanism to efficiently integrate ab initio neural network potentials (NNPs) with AKMC and implement them in our TensorKMC codes. We port our program to SW26010-pro and innovate a fast feature operator and a big fusion operator for the NNPs for fully utilizing the powerful heterogeneous computing units of the new-generation Sunway supercomputer. We further optimize memory usage. With these improvements, TensorKMC can simulate up to 54 trillions of atoms and achieve excellent strong and weak scaling performance up to 27,456,000 cores.

Vehicular fog computing (VFC) as one of the newly emergent computing paradigms has attracted widespread attention recently, which brings the computing and storage resources of cloud computing to the mobile terminal devices – smart vehicles. Despite the advantage of VFC, tasks are more susceptible to failures, owing to the limited computing capabilities of vehicles as well as the unstable wireless communication links during service provisioning. However, current works seldom pay attention to it. In this paper we strive to design failure-tolerant task offloading strategy in VFC, by considering different kinds of failures during task offloading. We also pose strict latency requirement on the response delay for each task in the optimization period. The goal of this paper is to minimize the average response latency for all the offloaded tasks in the optimization period by allocating the offloading requests to the fog vehicles. The optimization problem is formulated as one variant of multiple knapsack problem that is NP-hard. To solve this problem in polynomial time, we put forward a heuristic greedy algorithm to solve it. The extensive simulation is conducted to validate its efficiency and effectiveness and the results show its advantages compared to the baseline approaches.

Weakly compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is known to suffer from numerical pressure noise, which can significantly undermine simulation stability and accuracy. In response, this study introduces a novel density dissipation scheme aimed at suppressing such unphysical noise. The proposed scheme overcomes the limitations of conventional density dissipation schemes, which are ineffective at fluid interfaces in multiphase flow simulations. As a result, the novel scheme is generally applicable to the entire computational domain, encompassing both single-phase flow and multiphase flow. This advancement is achieved through two key components. Firstly, the traditional density dissipation is replaced with a density increment dissipation approach that enables dissipation to cross interfaces separating different fluids. Secondly, based on dissipation volume conservation, we employ a dissipation volume correction factor (VCF) to stabilize simulations characterized by large density ratios. We demonstrate the accuracy, stability, and robustness of our method through four three-dimensional benchmarks: sloshing under external excitations, the rising of single and double bubbles, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, and Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. We built a spatial hybrid system that combines a personal computer (PC) and virtual reality (VR) for visual sensemaking, addressing limitations in both environments. Although VR offers immense potential for interactive data visualization (e.g., large display space and spatial navigation), it can also present challenges such as imprecise interactions and user fatigue. At the same time, a PC offers precise and familiar interactions but has limited display space and interaction modality. Therefore, we iteratively designed a spatial hybrid system (PC+VR) to complement these two environments by enabling seamless switching between PC and VR environments. To evaluate the system's effectiveness and user experience, we compared it to using a single computing environment (i.e., PC-only and VR-only). Our study results (N=18) showed that spatial PC+VR could combine the benefits of both devices to outperform user preference for VR-only without a negative impact on performance from device switching overhead. Finally, we discussed future design implications. © 1995-2012 IEEE.

Raman spectroscopy provides chemical and compositional information that can serve as a structural fingerprint for various materials. Therefore, simulations of Raman spectra, including both quantum perturbation analyses and ground-state calculations, are of significant interest. However, highly accurate full quantum mechanical (QM) simulations of Raman spectra have previously been confined to small systems. For large systems such as biological materials, full QM simulations have an extremely high computational cost and remain challenging. In this work, robust new algorithms and advanced implementations on many-core architectures are employed to enable fast, accurate, and massively parallel full ab initio simulations of the Raman spectra of realistic biological systems containing up to 3006 atoms, with excellent strong and weak scaling. Up to a performance of 468.5 PFLOP / s in double-precision and 813.7 PLOPS/s in mixed-half precision is achieved on the new-generation Sunway high-performance computing system, suggesting the potential for new applications of the QM approach to biological systems.
