NfvInsight:A Framework for Automatically Deploying and Benchmarking VNF Chains

With the advent of virtualization techniques and software-defined networking(SDN),network function virtualization(NFV)shifts network functions(NFs)from hardware implementations to software appliances,between which exists a performance *** to narrow the gap is an essential issue of current NFV ***,the cumbersomeness of deployment,the water pipe effect of virtual network function(VNF)chains,and the complexity of the system software stack together make it tough to figure out the cause of low performance in the NFV *** pinpoint the NFV system performance,we propose NfvInsight,a framework for automatic deployment and benchmarking VNF *** framework tackles the challenges in NFV performance *** framework components include chain graph generation,automatic deployment,and fine granularity *** design and implementation of each component have their *** the best of our knowledge,we make the first attempt to collect rules forming a knowledge base for generating reasonable chain *** deploys the generated chain graphs automatically,which frees the network operators from executing at least 391 lines of bash commands for a single *** diagnose the performance bottleneck,NfvInsight collects metrics from multiple layers of the software ***,we collect the network stack latency distribution ingeniously,introducing only less than 2.2%*** showcase the convenience and usability of NfvInsight in finding bottlenecks for both VNF chains and the underlying *** our framework,we find several design flaws of the network stack,which are unsuitable for packet forwarding inside one single server under the NFV *** optimization for these flaws gains at most 3x performance improvement.

Liver tumor segmentation remains a challenging task. Previous methods often relied on simple feature fusion (e.g., concatenation or summation), leading to suboptimal results. This paper proposes a segmentation method based on AGCHNet with multi-scale feature fusion. Built on the U-Net framework, we replace standard convolutions with Fused-MBConv, improving multi-scale feature extraction and representation. The SE_ASPP module at the bottleneck enhances salient feature learning, while the AGCH attention mechanism in skip connections mitigates semantic conflicts and suppresses irrelevant information. Our method, evaluated with five-fold cross-validation on the LiTs dataset, achieved 96.6% Dice, 7.3 mm HD, and 1.0 mm ASD for liver segmentation. For tumor segmentation, it reached 80.9% Dice, 14.3 mm HD, and 2.3 mm ASD, outperforming mainstream methods. © 2024 The Authors.

Calligraphy expresses people's inner mood and reflects their self-cultivation. Style and emotion plays a key role in calligraphy artistry. Consequently, we applied intelligent technology to analyze the emotion and artistic style recognition of Chinese calligraphy artworks. A dataset of 5,000 calligraphy images was established, including art works over seventy renowned Chinese calligraphists. We compared several deep-learning methods to build the best model. The results show that the optimal model achieves an accuracy of 0.9319 with MobileNet in calligraphy emotion recognition, while it achieves the best accuracy of 0.972 in calligraphy font style recognition, and the highest classification accuracy of 0.943 in calligraphy artist's style recognition respectively using ResNet50. Finally, an intelligent Chinese calligraphy emotion and style exploration application are developed based on the optimal model. © 2023 IEEE.

A Painting Style System using an Improved CNN Algorithm

The rapid development of deep learning technology allows ordinary people to create artwork that imitates the style of paintings by famous masters through an algorithm. To create such works with artistic style, this research proposes an artificial neural network algorithm based on an improved convolutional neural network (CNN). First, a fast style-rendering model based on the improved CNN is constructed, and then, a server front end is built with the Bootstrap framework. The server-side back end of the system is built by combining a Python algorithm and a web framework, and finally, a complete model of the front-end and back-end network of the style rendering system is constructed. The model proposed in this paper is compared with two other models to verify its performance. The results show that information entropy of the model constructed is the highest at 5.58, which is higher than information entropy of the other two models. The average gradient value and the peak signal-to-noise ratio under the constructed model are 22.54 and 27.81, respectively, which are also higher than the other two models. Mutual information and the structural similarity index between rendered images and sample images under all three models were compared. Mutual information and structural similarity index of the model constructed by this research are 1.19 and 0.56, respectively, with much larger data sizes than the two comparison models. © 2022 Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. Tower solar thermal power generation is a new type of low-carbon and environmentally friendly clean energy technology. In this paper, a single-objective optimization model is established with the maximum annual average thermal output per unit mirror area of the heliostat field as the objective function. By optimizing the heliostat width, heliostat height and heliostat coordinate, the annual average output thermal power can be maximized while meeting the rated power. The heliostat field is distributed in a circular shape. As the seasons change, the light intensity received by the heliostat field is uneven, so the optical efficiency of the heliostats is also different. We simplify the heliostat field into S area (area with higher optical efficiency) and W area (area with lower optical efficiency) based on the optical efficiency distribution of heliostats. At different locations, According to the heliostat width, heliostat height and heliostat coordinate generated by random functions, substituting these parameters into the efficiency model in this paper, and the random search algorithm is used to traverse the maximum annual output thermal power and the corresponding heliostat parameters. In the shadow occlusion loss model, we have grid to set up the heliostat and use the coordinate conversion to solve the shadow occlusion loss efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

In response to the challenge of comprehensively security assessment and analysis in existing mobile networks from both upper-layer services and network transmission levels, A SDN-based security assessment model for transmission and service security in mobile networks (SAMTS) is proposed. This model introduces security assessment algorithms, in which static configuration information and dynamic abnormal information are considered comprehensively to judge the trend and the risk degree of attack when evaluating the security of network nodes. Meanwhile, the node importance of service orientation and transmission is integrated for security evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation and comparison experiments, demonstrating its higher evaluation accuracy compared with similar algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

In order to solve the problem of high cost and low efficiency in manual welding of power socket welding components, a soldering robot arm system was developed. The gripper, 5-DOF manipulator, clamp, support, and control system were designed. The coordinate system of the robot arm was constructed, and the working space of the robot arm was analyzed by using the MATLAB robot toolbox. It was concluded that the x0 coordinate range of the welding working area was [175mm, 215mm], the y0 coordinate range was [55mm, -55mm], and the z0 coordinate was 90mm. At the same time, the motion trajectory of the robot arm was determined. Using Raspberry PI as a controller, the control system is developed by programming Python language. The prototype is made, and a welding test is carried out. The test shows that the system has completed the welding operation, and the welding effect is good. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The swift advancement of distributed computing has enhanced the support for big data and massive-scale models. Yet, delivering superior services to manage large and intricate network flows in data center networks remains a formidable challenge. In this paper, we present ReQ-tank, an intricate flow scheduling approach based on a multi-level feedback queue (MLFQ) devised to achieve flow prioritization and efficient flow scheduling. ReQ-tank employs a two-tier scheduling strategy: On the flow scheduling layer, priority queues are segmented into two categories, and the flows within high-priority queues follow a strict priority scheduling, while those in low-priority queues adhere to differential weighted Round-robin scheduling;On the packet scheduling layer, ReQ-tank modifies the priority of initially high-priority re-transmitted packets to facilitate fine-grained data packet scheduling. We carry out simulation experiments on web search workloads and data mining workloads. Experimental results demonstrate that ReQ-tank can curtail packet wait time in the network, significantly truncate the flow completion time (FCT) of delay-sensitive flows and counteract the issue of flow starvation in traditional strict priority queues. Consequently, ReQ-tank is deemed more suitable for complex distributed network applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, large-scale vision and language models has significantly improved the performances of cross-modal retrieval tasks. However, large-scale models require a substantial amount of computing resources, so the execution of these models on devices with limited resources is challenging. Thus, it is paramount to reduce the model size and minimize computing costs of a model without sacrificing its performance. In this paper, we improved TERAN by dividing cross-modal retrieval into two stages: image-text coarse-grained matching and image-text fine-grained matching. Specifically, we present a novel approach called Two-Stage Cross-Modal Retrieval network(TSCMR). To reduce model size after model training, our approach utilized a new knowledge distillation method for Transformer-based models. Experiments have shown that our approach maintains a performance comparable to TERAN on the MS-COCO 1K test set, while being 2x smaller and 3.1x faster on inference. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
