The Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) paradigm is anticipated to be a cornerstone of the upcoming 6G networks. In order to optimize the use of wireless resources, 6G ISAC systems need to harness the communication data payload signals, which are inherently random, for both sensing and communication (S&C) purposes. This tutorial paper provides a comprehensive technical overview of the fundamental theory and signal processing methodologies for ISAC transmission with random communication signals. We begin by introducing the deterministic-random tradeoff (DRT) between S&C from an information-theoretic perspective, emphasizing the need for specialized signal processing techniques tailored to random ISAC signals. Building on this foundation, we review the core signal models and processing pipelines for communication-centric ISAC systems, and analyze the average squared auto-correlation function (ACF) of random ISAC signals, which serves as a fundamental performance metric for multi-target ranging tasks. Drawing insights from these theoretical results, we outline the design principles for the three key components of communication-centric ISAC systems: modulation schemes, constellation design, and pulse shaping filters. The goal is to either enhance sensing performance without compromising communication efficiency or to establish a scalable tradeoff between the two. We then extend our analysis from a single-antenna ISAC system to its multi-antenna counterpart, discussing recent advancements in multiinput multi-output (MIMO) precoding techniques specifically designed for random ISAC signals. Federated Digital Twin Construction via Distributed Sensing: A Game-Theoretic Online Optimization with Overlapping Coalitions

In this paper, we propose a novel federated framework for constructing the digital twin (DT) model, referring to a living and self-evolving visualization model empowered by artificial intelligence, enabled by distributed sensing under edge-cloud collaboration. In this framework, the DT model to be built at the cloud is regarded as a global one being split into and integrating from multiple functional components, i.e., partial-DTs, created at various edge servers (ESs) using feature data collected by associated sensors. Considering time-varying DT evolutions and heterogeneities among partial-DTs, we formulate an online problem that jointly and dynamically optimizes partial-DT assignments from the cloud to ESs, ES-sensor associations for partial-DT creation, and as well as computation and communication resource allocations for global-DT integration. The problem aims to maximize the constructed DT’s model quality while minimizing all induced costs, including energy consumption and configuration costs, in long runs. To this end, we first transform the original problem into an equivalent hierarchical game with an upper-layer two-sided matching game and a lower-layer overlapping coalition formation game. After analyzing these games in detail, we apply the Gale-Shapley algorithm and particularly develop a switch rules-based overlapping coalition formation algorithm to obtain short-term equilibria of upper-layer and lower-layer subgames, respectively. Then, we design a deep reinforcement learning-based solution, called DMO, to extend the result into a long-term equilibrium of the hierarchical game, thereby producing the solution to the original problem. Simulations show the effectiveness of the introduced framework, and demonstrate the superiority of the proposed solution over counterparts. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Optimal Bilinear Equalizer for Cell-Free Massive MIMO Systems over Correlated Rician Channels

In this paper, we explore the low-complexity optimal bilinear equalizer (OBE) combining scheme design for cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output networks with spatially correlated Rician fading channels. We provide a spectral efficiency (SE) performance analysis framework for both the centralized and distributed processing schemes with bilinear equalizer (BE)-structure combining schemes applied. The BE-structured combining is a set of schemes that are constructed by the multiplications of channel statistics-based BE matrices and instantaneous channel estimates. Notably, we derive closed-form achievable SE expressions for centralized and distributed BE-structured combining schemes. We propose one centralized and two distributed OBE schemes: Centralized OBE (C-OBE), Distributed OBE based on Global channel statistics (DG-OBE), and Distributed OBE based on Local channel statistics (DL-OBE), which maximize their respective SE expressions. OBE matrices in these schemes are tailored based on varying levels of channel statistics. Notably, we obtain new and insightful closed-form results for the C-OBE, DG-OBE, and DL-OBE combining schemes. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed OBE schemes can achieve excellent SE, even in scenarios with severe pilot contamination. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

GLaPE: Gold Label-agnostic Prompt Evaluation and Optimization for Large Language Model

Despite the rapid progress of large language models (LLMs), their task performance remains sensitive to prompt design. Recent studies have explored leveraging the LLM itself as an optimizer to identify optimal prompts that maximize task accuracy. However, when evaluating prompts, such approaches heavily rely on elusive manually annotated gold labels to calculate task accuracy for each candidate prompt, which hinders its generality. To overcome the limitation, this work proposes GLaPE, a gold label-agnostic prompt evaluation method to alleviate dependence on gold labels. GLaPE is composed of two critical aspects: self-consistency evaluation of a single prompt and mutual-consistency refinement across multiple prompts. Experimental results on 8 widely-recognized reasoning tasks demonstrate that GLaPE can produce more effective prompts, achieving performance comparable to those derived from manually annotated gold labels. Analysis shows that GLaPE provides reliable evaluations aligned with accuracy, even in the absence of gold labels. Code is publicly available at https://***/thunderous77/GLaPE. CADEC: A Combinatorial Auction for Dynamic Distributed DNN Inference Scheduling in Edge-Cloud Networks

Deep Neural Network (DNN) Inference, as a key enabler of intelligent applications, is often computation-intensive and latency-sensitive. Combining the advantages of cloud computing (abundant computing resources) and edge computing (fast transmission), edge-cloud collaborative DNN inference is a powerful solution to these problems. However, in edge-cloud networks with heterogeneous resources, how to obtain reasonable decisions on server selection, model partition and resource allocation for efficient distributed DNN inference is a hard challenge. Furthermore, it is non-trivial to design suitable resource prices to maximize the social welfare. These challenges even escalate in dynamic edge-cloud networks where decisions should be generated as soon as each user arrives without future information. Therefore, we design a combinatorial auction for dynamic distributed DNN inference scheduling, named CADEC. CADEC first constructs a bid set for each user based on convex optimization theory for optimal solution searching. Next, prices of resources in the edge-cloud network are adjusted according to changes in supply-demand relationship, and whether to admit the request of each user is decided. Finally, the dynamic distributed inference scheduling decisions are generated through the primal-dual algorithm to maximize the social welfare. Theoretical analysis shows the good competitive ratio and polynomial time complexity of CADEC. Results of simulation experiments present that CADEC improves social welfare by up to 46% compared with state-of-the-art distributed DNN inference schemes. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. COVID-19 is a contagious infection that has severe effects on the global economy and our daily *** diagnosis of COVID-19 is of importance for consultants,patients,and *** this study,we use the deep learning network AlexNet as the backbone,and enhance it with the following two aspects:1)adding batch normalization to help accelerate the training,reducing the internal covariance shift;2)replacing the fully connected layer in AlexNet with three classifiers:SNN,ELM,and ***,we have three novel models from the deep COVID network(DC-Net)framework,which are named DC-Net-S,DC-Net-E,and DC-Net-R,*** comparison,we find the proposed DC-Net-R achieves an average accuracy of 90.91%on a private dataset(available upon email request)comprising of 296 images while the specificity reaches 96.13%,and has the best performance among all three proposed *** addition,we show that our DC-Net-R also performs much better than other existing algorithms in the literature.

This paper is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in fault tolerance methods for cloud computing. Maintaining high availability and reliability of cloud environments requires fault tolerance. This paper explores fault tolerance in the context of cloud computing and discusses recent challenges and innovations in the field. Moreover, it examines the ongoing research efforts to improve fault-tolerance architectures. At the end of the paper, the paper presents system-level metrics that are relevant to fault tolerance.

This paper reviews published research in the field of computer-aided colorization technology. We argue that the colorization task originates from computer graphics, prospers by introducing computer vision, and tends to the fusion of vision and graphics, so we put forward our taxonomy and organize the whole paper chronologically. We extend the existing reconstruction-based colorization evaluation techniques, considering that aesthetic assessment of colored images should be introduced to ensure that colorization satisfies human visual-related requirements and emotions more closely. We perform the colorization aesthetic assessment on seven representative unconditional colorization models and discuss the difference between our assessment and the existing reconstruction-based metrics. Finally, this paper identifies unresolved issues and proposes fruitful areas for future research and development.
