Integrated management for network virtualization infrastructure

This paper introduces research and development results of extended functions on our network virtualization infrastructure which achieve advanced network virtualization. Our results achieved to meet five requirements which are resource abstraction, resource isolation, resource elasticity, deep programmability and authentication. In addition, we proposed evolvable architecture and extended network virtualization for edge network and terminals. We also deployed our system on JGN-X testbed.

Homecare is a kind of property life service of the life and commercial support services for property management. How to supply an adaptive homecare service to community residents becomes an interest research topic of the building management and maintenance industry, particularly for enhancing community management quality. Besides, information and Internet techniques have changed human lifestyle. Varous mobile devices let user to enforce some service in the ubiqutious environment. Therefore, this work presents an intelligent e-services composition platform that community residents can get composite homecare e-services in the ubiquitous environment. An use case of baby care demonstrates the proposed platform that uses advanced techniques to create the resident profile. The resident profile records basic personal attributes and requirements. According to the resident profiles collected in the knowledge base, the resident fetches relevant e-services to compose the reasonable composite baby care e-services. Finally, the adaptive baby care information from the reasonable composite baby care e-services is recommended to residents to enjoy their lives in the ubiquitous environment. Hopefully, supplying the adaptive baby care information can help residents to have good life quality. © 2014 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Data mining has been widely applied for business data analysis, but it only reveals a common pattern based on large amounts of data. In current years, chance discovery as an extension of data mining is built to detect rare but important chances for human decision making. KeyGraph is an algorithm as well as a tool for discovering rare and important events that are regarded as candidates of chances in chance discovery. However, KeyGraph is originally invented as a keyword extraction algorithm, so scenario graph generated from KeyGraph is machine oriented, which causes a bottleneck of human cognition. Traditional data mining methods also have the similar problem. In this paper, we propose a useroriented algorithm called IdeaGraph which can generate a rich scenario graph for humans’ comprehension, interpretation, and innovation. IdeaGraph not only works on discovering more rare and significant business chances, but also focuses on uncovering latent relationship among them. An experiment indicates the advantages and effects of IdeaGraph by comparing with KeyGraph. IdeaGraph has been integrated in a creativity support system named iChance for collective intelligence. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

It is always attractive and challenging to explore the intricate behavior data and uncover people's motivations, preference and habits, which can greatly benefit many tasks including link prediction, item recommendation, etc. Traditional work usually studies people's behaviors without time information in a static or discrete manner, assuming the underlying factors stay invariant in a long period. However, we believe people's behaviors are dynamic, and the contributing factors including the social influence and personal preference for behaviors are varying continuously over time. Such continuous dynamics convey important knowledge about people's behavior patterns;ignoring them would lead to inaccurate models. In this work, we address the continuous dynamic modeling of temporal behaviors. To model the fully continuous temporal dynamics of behaviors and the underlying factors, we propose the DP-Space, a dynamic preference probability space, which can capture their smooth variation in various shapes over time with flexible basis functions. Upon that we propose a generative dynamic behavior model, ConTyor, which considers the temporal item-adoption behaviors as joint effect of dynamic social influence and varying personal preference over continuous time. We also develop effective inference methods for ConTyor and present its applications. We conduct a comprehensive experimental study using real-world datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of our model and the temporal modeling. Results verify that ConTyor outperforms existing state-of-the-art static and temporal models in behavior predictions. Moreover, in our detailed study on temporal modeling, we show that temporal modeling is superior to static approaches and modeling over continuous time is further better than that over discrete time. We also demonstrate that the ancient behavior data can still become important and beneficial if modeled well. © 2014 VLDB Endowment 21508097/14/11.

In this paper, we introduce a decision support system (DSS) platform (City Schema) that is designed to connect a tangible interface within a 3D modeling environment (City Form) with a simulation engine for analyzing the data of the urban, transportation, energy and water systems of the city (City Analytics) to support collaborative city planning. This DSS connects two completely independent systems into one integrated system. The first system is a physical 3D model of a city with a tangible user interface that supports interactive and collaborative activities and provides users with direct manipulation interaction and intuitive interfaces. The second system is an urban modeling design tool which is a simulation engine that has several simulation modules such as operational energy, mobility, daylight, transportation and others. The DSS we present here can be used to describe a real world problem and identify possible solutions to the modeled problem through the computation of many scenarios/alternatives so that users of the DSS can evaluate, compare and select a potential solution. Our City Schema DSS consists of: database management component, simulation modules management component, and an interactive user interface with dynamic visualization and decision scenario simulations. Human factors for supporting multi-user co-located collaboration to assist decision makers in making better decisions are examined. Design implications of different interaction modalities for decision support systems and their impact on providing intuitive and engaging user experiences are discussed. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The development in the processing capabilities of electronic devices directed the research of efficient image denoising technique towards the more complex methods which utilizes the complex transforms, functional analysis and statistics. Even though with the sophistication of the recently developed techniques, most algorithms fails to achieve desirable level of performance. Most algorithm fails because the practical model does not matches the algorithm assumptions taken at the time of development. This paper presents an efficient approach for the image denoising based on curvelet transform and the Bayesian Network. The proposed technique utilizes the statistical dependencies in the curvelet domain to train the Bayesian Network which is then used for predicting the noise probability. The curvelet transform provides better approximation especially in directional discontinuities which makes it preferable for processing the pixels around the edges. The experimental results show that the proposed technique outperforms wavelet based methods visually and mathematically (in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR)).

Order-preserving sub matrices (OPSM's) have been shown useful in capturing concurrent patterns in data when the relative magnitudes of data items are more important than their correct values. For example, in analyzing gene expression profiles obtained from micro-array experiments, the comparative magnitudes are important both since they represent the change of gene activities across the experiments, and since there is naturally a high level of noise in data that makes the exact values non trustable. To manage with data noise, repeated experiments are often conducted to collect multiple measurements. This paper includes Eigen value decomposition combined for solving data mining from order preserving sub-matrices from repeated dataset. Experimental results shows this method gives far better results in terms of time and candidate pattern ratio.

This paper proposes a geometric iteration algorithm for computing point projection and inversion on surfaces based on local biarc approximation. The iteration begins with initial estimation of the projection of the prescribed test point. For each iteration, we construct a 3D biarc on the original surface to locally approximate the original surface starting from the current projection point. Then we compute the projection point for the next iteration, as well as the parameter corresponding to it, by projecting the test point onto this biarc. The iterative process terminates when the projection point satisfies the required precision. Examples demonstrate that our algorithm converges faster and is less dependent on the choice of the initial value compared to the traditional geometric iteration algorithms based on single-point approximation. © The Eurographics Association 2014.

This study proposed that the origami curriculum can be one of the important educational activities for Grade 1-9 because origami is not only a form of arts, but also possesses the learning functions that involve hand-brain-eye co-ordination and can upgrade learners' non-classical logic deduction skills. This study uses Huzita's Axioms and Huzita-Hatori Axioms (HHA) to implement the web of Origami Simulator (WOOS). WOOS is produced by a computer algebra system (CAS) and it allows users to arbitrarily rotate or zoom origami forms, calculate the length of line segments, calculate area, and measure angles. Moreover, the steps taken can be recorded so that learners can observe the entire process after the activity. WOOS's ultimate objective is to be implemented in the origami or algebra teaching activities of junior and elementary schools. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
