The Multi-Label Classification (MLC) problem has aroused wide concern in these years since the multi-labeled data appears in many applications, such as page categorization, tag recommendation, mining of semantic web data, social network analysis, and so forth. In this paper, we propose a novel MLC solution based on the random walk model, called MLRW. MLRW maps the multi-labeled instances to graphs, on which the random walk is applied. When an unlabeled data is fed, MLRW transforms the original multi-label problem to some single-label subproblems. Experimental results on several real-world data sets demonstrate that MLRW is a better solution to the MLC problems than many other existing multi-label classification methods. © 2011 ACM.

Communication networks are now facing more and more potential large scale region threats such as natural disaster and physical attack. Under such region failure scenarios, numerous network elements within a geographically correlated region may be simultaneously destroyed, resulting a dramatical compromise or even breakdown of overall network connectivity. In this paper, we study the network survivability against a random region failure, which is modeled as a circular cut residing on the network. For a network adopting the cost effective multiple path routing mechanism, we examine how the network throughput performance degrades with region failure under the region-disjoint and node-disjoint routing constraints. The corresponding traffic throughput optimization problem and linear programming formulation are also addressed. We further discuss the problem of upgrading network with the minimal cost when the link capacity is not sufficient to protect the network against region failure. © 2011 IEEE.

In data mining, visual representation can help in enhancing the ability of analyzing and understanding the techniques, patterns and their integration. Recently, there are varieties of visualizers have been proposed in marketplace and knowledge discovery communities. However, the detail visualization processes for constructing any incremental tree data structure from its original dataset are rarely presented. Essentially, graphic illustrations of the complex processes are easier to be understood as compared to the complex computer pseudocode. Therefore, this paper explains the visualization process of constructing our incremental Disorder Support Trie Itemset (DOSTrieIT) data structure from the flat-file dataset. DOSTrieIT can be used later as a compressed source of information for building Frequent Pattern Tree (FP-Tree). To ensure understandability, an appropriate dataset and its processes are graphically presented and details explained.

Content-aware music adaption, i.e. music resizing, in temporal constraints starts drawing attention from multimedia communities because of the need of real-world scenarios, e.g. animation production and radio advertisement production. The goal of music resizing is to change the length of a music track to a user preferred length using a series of basic operations, e.g. compression, prolonging, cropping and repeating. The only existing music resizing approach so far, called LyDAR, suffers from some limitations. For example, it cannot support prolonging a music track and cannot compress music pieces with very small stretch rates. In this paper, we propose MUSIZ, a generic framework for MUsic reSIZing. Observing the diversity of quality degradation for different segments, we propose the concept of stretch-resistance to measure the degree of quality degradation after a segment is stretched. MUSIZ stretches high stretch-resistance segments intensively and relieves low stretch-resistance segments to reduce the negative impact on the stretched music piece. For short length resizing requests, we develop a contiguity-preservative cropping algorithm to remove segments before stretching, while smoothing the abrupt change at the joint between two segments. Comprehensive experimental results show that MUSIZ is superior to the existing approaches. © 2011 ACM.

We present a fast collision detection method for deformable surfaces with parallel spatial hashing on GPU architecture. The efficient update and access of the uniform grid are exploited to accelerate the performance in our method. To deal with the inflexible memory system, which makes the building of stream data a challenging task on GPU, we propose to subdivide the whole workload into irregular segments and design an efficient evaluation algorithm, which employs parallel scan and stream compaction, to build the stream data in parallel. The load balancing is a key aspect that needs to be considered in the SIMD parallelism. We break the heavy and irregular collision computation down into lightweight part and heavyweight part, ensuring the later perfectly run in load balancing manner with each concurrent thread processes just a single collision. In practice, our approach can perform collision detection in tens of milliseconds on a PC with NVIDIAGTX 260 graphics card on benchmarks composed of millions of triangles. The results highlight our speedups over prior CPU-based and GPU-based algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

The paper presents a new approach to computing the abstract state and a maximum weight heuristic method for finding the shortest counter-example in verification of imperative programs. The strategy is incorporated in a verification system based on the counterexample-guided abstraction refinement method. The proposed method slashes both the size of the abstract state space and the number of invokes of a decision procedure. A number of benchmarks are employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach.

The numerous recent contribution of web application testing approaches reflect the rising awareness and concern for assuring web application's functionality and performance. The functionality of a web application cannot be compromised, especially if dealing with critical web-based applications such as online banking system, ticketing system and file hosting services. This paper aims to systematically investigate state-of-the-art functional testing approaches for web applications. Focus will be given on testing techniques that address the functional aspect of a web application. In this paper we firstly perform exhaustive literature reviews on state-of-the-art approaches in functional testing of web application. Next, a comparative evaluation framework that consists of several related criteria is developed, and subsequently applied to the selected prominent approaches. Finally, we present a critical discussion on the results of the comparative evaluation. Based on our observations, the evaluation results may indicate the current and future direction in web application functional testing and the viability of these approaches. Through the results, we will be able to determine the direction of functional web application testing and which area within the functional requirement aspect of web applications that has not duly being addressed.

In digital watermarking performance evaluation at least three major metrics: imperceptibility, robustness and capacity have been widely used by researchers to analyze the performance of watermarking schemes;however, they constantly conflict with each other. In this paper we propose an effective method to evaluate the trade-off balanced degree among these measures using three threshold conditions. These thresholds comprise of three factors: imperceptibility effect 'before attack and after watermarking', perceptibility effect 'after attack', and robustness 'after attack'. As a result of this study, the performance trade-off of a watermarking scheme can be stated based on degrees. Moreover, we proposed Reset Removal Attack as a severe geometric attack. Finally, the experimental investigation of the proposed technique using the bit-plane watermarking algorithms under several intensities of Reset Removal Attack revealed that the 3rd bit-plane algorithm behaved a better compromise among robustness, image quality, and capacity. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

This paper presents an efficient method to reconstruct an implicit surface from a point cloud based on adaptive clustering. First, a novel approach, based on a hierarchical clustering tree with variation and normal constraints, is proposed for normal estimation of the point cloud. It simplifies the point cloud and reduces the amount of direction propagation paths in normal orientation. Second, an implicit surface is computed from the clustering tree by a feature preserving method, using adaptive plane fitting that considers the local feature and sharp areas of the point cloud. Finally, the results demonstrate the efficiency of our method for open, closed and unorganized models, and show that the resulting surfaces preserve the sharp features. © 2011 IEEE.

A model is proposed for selecting the optimal result of contractor selection under multi criteria environment. Fuzzy comparing judgment is used to tackling the vagueness and uncertainty in choosing significant preferences by decision maker regarding to the subjective opinion. Finally, the model was tested in tender evaluation processes for awarding the most beneficial contractor to perform the construction project. © 2011 IEEE.
