The highlight line model is a powerful tool in assessing the quality of a surface. It increases the flexibility of an interactive design environment. In this paper, a method to generate a highlight line model on an arbitrary triangular mesh is presented. Based on the highlight line model, a technique to remove local shape irregularities of a triangular mesh is then presented. The shape modification is done by solving a minimization problem and performing an iterative procedure. The new technique improves not only the shape quality of the mesh surface, but also the shape of the highlight line model. It provides an intuitive and yet suitable method for locally optimizing the shape of a triangular mesh.

One of the most important web-based services that established the foundations of the web 2.0 is the weblog. weblogs are evolving to be topic based systems that can lead to more revenue for companies. Therefore many companies provide free weblog hosting. weblog popularity is an effective factor to gain more revenue. weblogs have posts and topics that are arranged chronologically with the most recent post first. Some weblogs have so many posts that it makes finding a specific post very difficult. On the other hand irrelevant ordering of the posts makes it worse. weblogs that do not have the posts in a proper order may result in decreasing the popularity of weblogs. Our experiments on Farsi weblogs have shown that many viewers close weblog windows before they are completely loaded in their web browsers. This is due to a large number of posts on the weblogs. Adaptive filtering of the posts on the weblogs can provide the readers with information that interests them. This paper introduces a new approach for filtering and reordering weblog posts based on user's browsing history. Our experimental results show that our filtering approach can improve weblog popularity and increases the number of weblog viewers. This paper presents an improved genetic algorithm for solving conic fitting problem. We first use several parallel small-populations genetic algorithms to obtain initial population, which has better average fitness. The range of mutation operator is also set to be gradually reduced with the growing of generation to guarantee the proportion of outstanding individuals within the population. An experiment shows that our improvements on genetic algorithm can remarkably increase the average fitness of population during evolution and enhance the performance of the algorithm as a whole.

This paper proposes a new method for measuring the complexity of software systems based on complex network theory. We first construct the complex network model for software system. Then, the complexity of a homogeneous system is defined according to the entropy theory. With the experiments on open source software systems, we show that our method can reveal the complexity on different aspects of software systems,such as inheritance and understanding complexity.

Learning Object (LO) is one of the main research topics in the E-Learning community in the recent years, and most researchers pay attention to the issue of Learning Object Reusability. The most obvious motivation is the economic interest of reusing learning material instead of repeatedly authoring it. Reusability requires the LO to be in a fine-grain form because raw media elements are often much easier to reuse than aggregate assemblies. In other words, as the LO size decreases (lower granularity), its potential for reuse increases. Therefore, when designing learning objects, reusability must be considered as a key consideration. This paper shows how we adapted and applied some of the metrics from the software engineering field for the purpose of measuring reusability of learning objects.

Two conflict-driven schemes and a new scan architecture based on them are presented to improve fault coverage of transition fault. They make full use of the advantages of broadside, skewed-load and enhanced scan testing, and eliminate the disadvantages of them, such as low coverage, fast global scan enable signal and hardware overhead. Test power is also a challenge for delay testing, so our method tries to reduce the test power at the same time. By the analysis of the functional dependency between test vectors in broadside testing and the shift dependency between vectors in the skewed-load testing, some scan cells are selected to operate in the enhanced scan and skewed-load scan mode, while others operate in traditional broadside mode. In the architecture, scan cells with common successors are divided into one chain. With the efficient conflict driven selection methods and partition of scan cells, fault coverage can be improved greatly and test power can be reduced, without sacrificing the test time and test data. Experimental results show that the fault coverage of the proposed method can reach the level of enhanced scan design.

Schema matching plays a key role in many different applications, such as schema integration, data integration, data warehousing, data transformation, E-commerce, peer-to-peer data management, ontology matching and integration, semantic web, semantic query processing, etc. Manual matching is expensive and error-prone, so it is therefore important to develop techniques to automate the schema matching process. In this paper, we present a solution for XML schema automated matching problem which produces semantic mappings between corresponding schema elements of given source and target schemas. This solution contributed in solving more comprehensively and efficiently XML schema automated matching problem. Our solution based on combining linguistic similarity, data type compatibility and structural similarity of XML schema elements. After describing our solution, we present experimental results that demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.

In order to use software processes for a spectrum of projects they are described in a generic way. Due to the uniqueness of software development, processes have to be adapted to project specific needs to be effectively applicable in projects. Siemens AG has started research projects aiming to improve this instantiation of processes. A system supporting project managers in instantiation of software processes at Siemens AG is being developed. It aims not only to execute instantiation decision made by humans but to automatically restore correctness of the resulting process.

In 2005, an extensive taxonomy of threats for VoIP was published by a prominent industry group. Strangely, this taxonomy does not identify stegocommunication as a threat, even though many steganographic channels have been identified in VoIP protocols. To avoid such security gaps in the future, we argue that stegocommunication should be added to the traditional list of network threats: interruption, interception, modification, fabrication. The stegocommunication threat arises when the communication channel is purchased, provided, or supervised by anyone other than the communicating parties. We illustrate a stegocommunication threat to a business owner Charles. If Charles purchases a VoIP service for business-related communications by an employee Alice, then he faces the risk that Alice may undetectably communicate a business secret to an outside party Bob. In this insider-threat scenario, Charles can mitigate his security risk by installing a stegodetector.

The purpose of this paper is to identify the threats that exist in Healthcare information systems (HIS). The study has been carried out in three different departments namely, information technology department (ITD), Medical Record department (MRD) and X-Ray department in one of the leading government supported hospital in Malaysia. The hospital was equipped with Total Hospital information system (THIS) environment. The data were collected using in-depth structured interviews. The study identified 22 types of threats according to major threat categories based on ISO/IEC 27002 (ISO 27799:2008). The result shows the most critical threat for the THIS is the power failure. In addition, acts of human error or failure threat also show high frequency of occurrence. The contribution of the paper will be categorization of threats in HIS and can be used to design and implement effective security systems and policies in healthcare setting.
