A validated rp-HPLC method for simultaneous determination of olopatadine hydrochloride and its related substances in eye drop

Olopatadine Hydrochloride, a H1-receptor antagonist, widely used for Allergic Conjunctivitis. A HPLC method was created and validated for the quantification of olopatadine hydrochloride and its related substances in eye formulation in accordance with ICH standards. The separation of olopatadine hydrochloride was done by using a 4.6-mm 15-cm;5 mu m packing USP L7 column with a mobile phase made up of a mixer of phosphate buffer, pH 3.0: Acetonitrile (72:28) ratio at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and injection volume 30 mu L. A photodiode array detector was used at a wavelength of 299 nm. The validation parameters including specificity, LOD/LOQ, linearity, accuracy, precision, robustness, and solution stability, were verified for performance of the method. The linearity ranges were 0.02-0.40, 0.0004-0.008 and 0.0001-0.002 mg/mL for olopatadine hydrochloride, olopatadine-related compound B and olopatadine carbaldehyde, respectively. The % recovery was within the 80-120%. When the column temperature and flow rate were changed, the system suitability resolution was still within the acceptable range. The solutions were stable after 24 hr at both room temperature and 5 degrees C temperature. For the analysis of olopatadine hydrochloride and its impurity in pharmaceutical finished eye dosage form, the confirmed HPLC method can be a workable analytical approach.

Mediating role of nurse job enjoyment and participation in medical affairs on quality of patient care in Saudi hospitals

PurposeThe study aims to investigate the nurse job enjoyment and their participation in medical affairs to enchance the quality of patient care in Saudi hospitals. In addition, this study also investigates the management team's role in patient care quality through the mediating effects of nurse job enjoyment and participation in medical ***/methodology/approachThe present study used a self-administered survey questionnaire to collect data from registered nurses in Saudi hospitals. In this study, 600 survey questionnaires were distributed online (Google Forms) and received 266 valid responses (44.33% response rate). In addition, SmartPLS-4.0 was applied to validate the research constructs and test the hypotheses via partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe study's findings indicate that the job enjoyment of the nurses and participation in medical affairs have positive and significant effects on the quality of patient care. In addition, the research findings also suggest that the management team of the hospitals has a significant indirect influence on the quality of patient care through the medicating effects of nurse job enjoyment and participation in medical *** implicationsThe findings of this study also offer various practical implications. This study showed the direct impact of the management team on job enjoyment, medical affairs and patient care quality. Optimizing NGBoost with dynamic sequential model-based optimization for predicting UHPC compressive strength on heterogeneous datasets

Due to its outstanding performance in both strength and durability, ascertaining the compressive strength of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) holds critical significance. Recent trends reveal a shift towards using various Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques to predict UHPC's compressive strength using multi-study datasets, though not all models effectively handle these diverse and heterogeneous datasets. To address this challenge, this study proposes a Natural Gradient Boosting (NGBoost) method optimized with Dynamic Sequential Model-Based Optimization (DSMBO), leveraging a probabilistic approach to manage heterogeneous datasets. A dataset of 920 instances of compressive strength of UHPC from various studies was compiled and utilized in this research, considering 14 input features. A thorough comparative and sensitivity analysis was undertaken to evaluate NGBoost's performance with different base models and Sequential Model-Based Optimization techniques, culminating in the identification of the best-performing model, which is then benchmarked against a spectrum of ML and DL models. The findings reveal that the proposed model significantly outperforms other models, yielding R2 of 0.9748 and RMSE of 3.77 MPa. More importantly, this paper provides detailed insights into the contribution of each feature to model predictions through SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) values for easy user selection. Additionally, a user-friendly web-based interface was developed to promote the practical use of the proposed model in predicting UHPC's compressive strength.

Electoral Failure of Political Islam: The Case of Jamaat-E-Islami in bangladesh

This article investigates why the Jamaat-e-Islami of bangladesh (JIB), the largest Islamist political party in South Asia, has been failing to achieve electoral success since 1991, despite their strong Islamist ideology. In fact, the party's vote share has decreased from its highest point in 1991 to its lowest in 2008. The article, drafted before the recent dramatic political events in bangladesh, argues that while JIB remains active, the scope for its success in electoral politics in bangladesh remains questionable. The initial analysis proposes that the syncretic culture of bangladesh, endorsed by moderate Sufis and the major political parties, together with JIB's proto-religious objections to bangladesh's independence and their opposition to the state's neoliberal direction, partly explains JIB's lack of success in presenting a narrative that resonates with the voting public. The article also highlights the mistrust of the media, civil society and political elites towards JIB and identifies competition from other Islamist groups in the electoral arena. Recent developments in bangladesh, though, raise questions to what extent any form of 'Islamised' political messages is actually a dominant matter of concern for elections in bangladesh.

Exploring the phytochemical contents and therapeutic potential of Ficus nervosa (L) leaves: focusing on the hemostatic and antibacterial activity

The leaves of Ficus nervosa have a long history of use in traditional medicine for the treatment of various illnesses., but scientific validation of its hemostatic and antibacterial properties remains scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the cold methanol extracts of these leaves for their hemostatic and antibacterial properties while conducting preliminary phytochemical screening and acute toxicity testing. As Ficus species being widely studied for their bioactive compounds, there is a significant document in the literature regarding the specific hemostatic and antibacterial effects of leaves extract. This study demonstrating that the extract exhibits an oral LD50 greater than 5000 mg/kg in rats, indicating favorable safety profile. Additionally, over a 14-day period, the extract produced a dose-dependent and significantly (p <= 0.05) reduced bleeding time and blood loss in pre-treated rats, suggesting notable astringent and pro-coagulant properties. Antibacterial studies demonstrated that a 400 mu g dose of all extract fractions effectively inhibited bacterial growth, with inhibition zones ranging from 10 to 21 mm. This dual activity suggests the potential therapeutic use of F. nervosa leaves extracts in infections where bleeding and bacterial control are needed. The study provides preclinical evidence of the therapeutic potential of F. nervosa leaves in managing bleeding and bacterial infections, thus addressing crucial evidence in the field of phytochemistry and therapeutic application. Future research is warranted to isolate the specific bioactive compounds and elucidate their mechanisms of action to further support the development of new treatments and contributing to modern medicinal practices based on this plant leaves.

Navigating change and shaping missions: a study of Notre Dame College's educational aims within the Holy Cross congregation in bangladesh

The Congregation of Holy Cross has been working on evangelisation and education in bangladesh for more than 170 years. This paper examines and discusses the educational aims of highly reputed institution of Holy Cross Congregation, Notre Dame College (NDC). It also examines how NDC negotiated historical changes - internal and external - and how those changes shaped its educational missions. This study is based on the examination of written documents - primary and secondary - and fieldwork involving oral history interviews of Holy Cross personnel, both local and foreign, who are/were involved either in the teaching or administration with NDC. Eighteen participants were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide. Data analysis involves a holistic examination of transcriptions, documents, and field notes. Key points from interviews, along with other data, are categorised thematically and chronologically. The paper argues that NDC had a distinctive aim as part of its elite education. It primarily aimed at developing and empowering the minority Catholic community in bangladesh and developing and preparing clergies to establish a self-supporting and self-governing church in bangladesh. Secondly, it aimed at the diffusion of the Christian spirit and morals to the elite youth of the country. The paper argues that as NDC went through significant changes to the political and educational shifts over the period, so did its educational aims. In addition, the paper argues that with regard to education policies and strategies, HC education at NDC had a different approach from that of education provided by the government. The paper illustrates how NDC has been seen as quite successful in its missions of raising native clergy and establishing a local church.

Muslim college students' attitudes towards religious others: a qualitative exploration¹

Amid global religious conflicts, the role of youth in promoting peace and interfaith harmony is crucial. This research examined the attitudes of bangladeshi Muslim college students towards other religions through an exploratory qualitative study involving sixty participants across six focus groups. The findings revealed a range of both positive and negative attitudes. On the positive side, themes such as respect for other religious beliefs, conversion, friendship and cooperation, religiosity, and brotherly acceptance emerged. Conversely, negative themes included suspicion, biased opinions, prejudice, and indifference. The study concluded with discussions on recommendations, limitations, and future research directions.

PurposeThis study aims to analyse the resilience strategy utilized by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), enabling these businesses to effectively adapt their operations in response to varying conditions by providing them with essential resources. SMEs operate in marketplaces that are both dynamic and frequently tumultuous. These markets provide SMEs with a variety of obstacles, including economic ups and downs, advances in technology, evolving customer tastes and new regulatory requirements. SMEs need to create a strategic strategy to survive and grow in such situations. This strategy ought to help strengthen their resiliency and make it possible for them to make the most of emerging opportunities while simultaneously lowering the dangers. Design/methodology/approachThe questionnaires adopted and adapted from previous research served as the basis for gathering the data. The manufacturing industry was polled through the use of questionnaires. To test the hypothesis, the data were analysed using Smart PLS. Through the use of closed-ended questions directed to the proprietors, managers or senior executives of SMEs, data were collected from each and every institution in the sample. Following the examination of the data by means of descriptive analysis and the presentation of several scenarios using information relating to SMEs, the findings were presented. FindingsThe ambidextrous strategies that are used by SMEs have a propensity to offer a constructive contribution to SMEs. In this study, it was discovered that ambidexterity, which is defined as the capacity to both seek and capitalise on possibilities, has a significant bearing on the organisational effectiveness of SMEs. The results showed that ambidextrous strategies have a propensity to work as mediators in interactions involving proactive resilience tactics and performance. In this study, the rich history and cultural significance of muslin cloth in South Asia, notably in the Bengal region, are explored. Historically emblematic of opulence and skilled craftsmanship, Dhakai muslin was in great demand for its delicacy and artistry, particularly during the Mughal period. The reduction of muslin production in the nineteenth century is ascribed to British colonial policies and industrialization, which undermined traditional weaving processes and resulted in the near extinction of this cultural craft. Contemporary initiatives to rejuvenate muslin have arisen in bangladesh, emphasizing the rediscovery of the elusive Phuti Karpas cotton and ancient weaving methodologies. These initiatives seek to save cultural heritage while providing economic empowerment to local craftspeople. The article also emphasizes the global significance of muslin in the present day, as it is consistent with ethical and sustainable fashion trends. The work presented here facilitates a more comprehensive comprehension of muslin's significance in the textile history of South Asia and its ongoing relevance in contemporary cultural identity by analyzing its historical trajectory, cultural impact, and modern revival endeavors.
