In this work, a combined numerical and experimental investigation of the surface charge density and zeta potential behavior is investigated for borosilicate immersed in KCl and NaCl electrolytes and for imogolite immersed in KCl, CaCl2, and MgCl2 electrolytes. Simulations and experiments of the electrokinetic flows with electrolyte solutions were performed to accurately determine the electric double layer (EDL), the zeta potential, and the surface charge density at various electrolyte concentrations and pH. The zeta potential was experimentally determined and numerically predicted by solving the coupled governing equations of mass, species, momentum, and electrical field iteratively. The zeta potential for borosilicate develops strong nonlinear behavior with the ion concentration following a power-law. Likewise, the surface charge density obeys a nonlinear behavior, decreasing as the concentration increases. Moreover, for imogolite, both the zeta potential and the surface charge density behave nonlinearly with the pH. The EDL for borosilicate and imogolite becomes thinner as the electrolyte concentration and pH increase;this behavior is caused by increased surface charge density, resulting in the higher attraction of the free charges. The reported nonlinear behavior describes more accurately the interaction of the nanoparticle surface charge with the electrolytes and its effect on the electrolyte transport properties. © 2023, The Authors. In this paper, a gridless DOA estimation method with coexistence of non-circular and circular signals is proposed by employing an enhanced sparse nested array, whose virtual array has no holes. The virtual signals derived from both sum and difference co-arrays are constructed based on atomic norm minimization. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

Biological visual system has many intrinsic functional superiorities, such as small size, high sensitivity and no heat-sink cooling, which are hard to be completely replicated by electromechanical systems. The bio-syncretic design of sensing device with living materials may provide some functional superiorities to those conventional sensing devices, and will have great potential benefits in both biomedical and engineering applications. In this study, we developed a novel bio-syncretic light-gated field-effect transistor (FET), in which optogenetically engineered cells were used as the gate substitute for conventional gate electrode, and the exposure of the cells to light irradiation results in the variation of the transistor's channel current. The bio-syncretic transistor was fabricated by virtue of graphene film and optogenetically engineered cells, and its basic photo-responsive performance was then tested and characterized. This reference-less bio-syncretic transistor has a wide range of potential applications in photodetection and biosensing with good biocompatibility and stability.

Economic dispatch is one of the fundamental problems in the power system research. The existing algorithms are either discrete iterative algorithms or continuous-time dynamical algorithms. By virtue of the hybrid techniques, a hybrid consensus-based algorithm is proposed in this paper, which consists of a finite-time continuous-time algorithm and a discrete-time interacted scheme. Moreover, inspired by the cluster synchronization and the benefit of the projection operator, a supervised strategy is carried out to ensure that each generator unit will work within its power generation constraint. For a better understanding of the supervised hybrid distributed algorithm, the detailed pseudo-code is presented. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithm. © 2017

In this paper, we present a novel fault detection and identification (FDI) scheme for a class of nonlinear systems with model uncertainty. At the heart of this approach is an on-line approximator, referred to as fault tracking approximator (FTA). Differently from the other approximators, the FTA uses iterative algorithms to detect and identify nonlinear system faults, even in the presence of model uncertainty, which is motivated by predictive control theory and iterative learning control theory. The FTA can simultaneously detect and identify the shape and magnitude of the faults. The rigorous stability analysis and fault tracking properties of the FTA are also proved. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A novel model and behavior analysis for a swarm of multi-agent systems with finite velocity

Inspired by the fact that in most existing swarm models of multi-agent systems the velocity of an agent can be infinite, which is not in accordance with the real applications, we propose a novel swarm model of multi-agent systems where the velocity of an agent is finite. The Lyapunov function method and LaSalle＇s invariance principle are employed to show that by using the proposed model all of the agents eventually enter into a bounded region around the swarm center and finally tend to a stationary state. Numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Infrared remote sensing image has poor contrast and lower SNR so that real-time and robustness are not superior in image registration. In order to solve it, a novel registration based on Multi-scale feature extraction is proposed in this paper. This algorithm is designed in two aspects. Firstly, Gaussian convolution template size adjusts adaptively with the increasing of scale factors. Then the Multi-space is reconstructed. Secondly, feature points bidirectional matching based on the City-block distance is introduced into image registration. So the real-time performance and robustness are enhanced further. Finally, the experimental results showed that by this improved algorithm the infrared remote sensing images are registered more quickly and accurately than by traditional SIFT algorithm. © 2014 IEEE.

Trimer superfluid induced by photoassocation on the state-dependent optical lattice

We use the mean-field method, the quantum Monte Carlo method and the density-matrix-renormalization-group method to study the trimer superfluid phase and the quantum phase diagram of the Bose-Hubbard model in a one-dimensional optical lattice, with an explicit trimer-tunneling term. Theoretically, we derive the explicit trimer hopping terms, such as ai3†aj3, by the Schrieffer-Wolf transformation. In practice, the trimer superfluid described by these terms is driven by photoassociation. The phase transition between the trimer superfluid phase and other phases are also studied. Without the on-site interaction, the phase transition between the trimer superfluid phase and the Mott insulator phase is continuous. Turning on the on-site interaction, the phase transitions are first order with Mott insulators of atoms filling 1 and 2. With nonzero atom tunneling, the phase transition is first order from the atom superfluid to the trimer superfluid. In the trimer superfluid phase, the winding numbers can be divided by three without any remainder. The power-law decay exponent is 1/2 for the nondiagonal correlation ai†3aj3, i.e., the same as the exponent of the correlation ai†aj in hardcore bosons. The density-dependent atom-tunneling term ni2ai†aj and pair-tunneling term niai†2aj2 are also studied. With these terms, the phase transition from the empty phase to atom superfluid is first order and different from the cases without the density-dependent terms. The effects of finite three-body interactions and finite temperatures are also studied. Our results will be helpful in realizing the trimer superfluid by a cold-atom experiment.

This paper is concerned with the identification problems of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with randomly missing output data. Since one local linearized model cannot capture the global dynamics of the nonlinear industrial process, the multiple-model LPV model in which the global model is constructed by smoothly weighted combination of multiple local models is considered here. The problem of missing output variables data is commonly encountered in practice. In order to handle the multiple-model identification problems of LPV systems with incomplete data, the local model is taken to have a finite impulse response (FIR) model structure and the generalized expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is adopted to estimate the unknown parameters of the global LPV model. To avoid the problems of ill-conditioned matrices and high sensitivity of parameters to noise, the prior information on the coefficients of each local FIR model is employed to construct the prior probability of unknown parameters. Then the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of the global model parameters are derived via the generalized EM algorithm. The numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
