This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective. Experiments over six multi-modal benchmarks speak to the efficacy of the method. We release the code at https://***/huacong/ReconBoost.

As the number of patent applications increases yearly, the negation relation between patents has become intertwined, which makes it difficult for constructing negation relation in patent examination manually. Therefore, how to automatically construct negation relation between patents has become the hot research. Constructing negation relation is the process of comparing technical features between patents, which depends on the technical features in the patent claims and the technical function-effect. Although there are many researches on patent one-to-one negation, few researches on patent multi-to-one negation. The research on negation relation of multi-to-one patents, has the following challenges: (1) the definition of patent features is ambiguous in comparison of negation relation;(2) the role of patent function-effect is often ignored in judgement of negation relation. To solve the above issues, we propose a technical function-effect based patent multi-to-one negation game model. In the model, we decompose patent technical features into technical utility and technical function-effect. Patent technical utility is mainly realized by using the valence theory in linguistics. After obtaining technical utility, we choose to have the same technical effect, express the technical features of different technical functions, and obtain the patent technical function-effect. Finally, we combine the technical utility and function-effect to construct a technical utility/function-effect game tree to judge the patent negation relation. According to the two-tailed test in the A/B-test, our model outperforms the baseline model in the evaluation measurement. This model can subsequently be used to calculate the portfolio value and the strategic value of the patents. © 2022 IEEE.

Detecting fraud users, who fraudulently promote certain target items, is a challenging issue faced by e-commerce platforms. Generally, many fraud users have different spam behaviors simultaneously, e.g. spam transactions, clicks, reviews and so on. Existing solutions have two main limitations: 1) the correlations among multiple spam behaviors are neglected;2) large-scale computations are intractable when dealing with an enormous user set. To remedy these problems, this work proposes a collaboration based multi-label propagation (CMLP) algorithm. We first introduce a generic version that involves collaboration technique to exploit label correlations. Specifically, it breaks the final prediction into two parts: 1) its own prediction part;2) the prediction of others, i.e. collaborative part. Then, to accelerate it on large-scale e-commerce data, we propose a heterogeneous graph based variant that detects communities on the user-item graph directly. A Causal Adversarial Graph Neural Network for Multi-Center Autism Spectrum Disorder Identification

Due to the heterogeneous distributions of multi-center rs-fMRI data, currently it is still challenging to identify accurately autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patients from these heterogenous data. To deal with the influence of heterogeneous distributions on multi-center ASD diagnosis, a novel causal adversarial graph neural network (CAG) for multi-center ASD prediction is proposed in this work. CAG mainly consists of a graph filtering (GF) module and a learnable causal graph predictor (CGP). Specifically, the brain connection graph is first constructed from rs-fMRI data, after passing a GF module, the filtered graph is further divided by a causal subgraph and causally irrelevant subgraph. The ground-truth environmental labels and ASD labels are predicted from causal subgraph by a clustering method and a classification block, respectively. In addition, from the filtered graph and causally irrelevant subgraph, the environmental labels are predicted, while from the causally irrelevant subgraph the ASD labels are predicted. Assuming that the predicted environmental labels are independent to causal subgraph, while the predicted ASD labels are independent to causally irrelevant subgraph, accordingly, several adversarial losses are implemented by reversing the gradient. Through this adversarial learning strategy, the derived causal graph can predict multi-center ASD. The comparison experiments on both ABIDE-I and ABIDE-II datasets demonstrate that, the ACC and AUC of CAG has been improved by 3.78\% and 7.38\% at least comparing against the existing methods. Moreover, some abnormal functional connectivities in ASD group are identified from the causal subgraph which may provide useful imaging biomarkers for the early diagnosis of ASD. © 2025, The Authors. Heterogeneous information networks (HINs) have become a popular tool to capture complicated user-item relationships in recommendation problems in recent years. As a typical instantiation of HINs, meta-path is introduced in search of higher-level representations of user-item interactions. Though remarkable success has been achieved along this direction, existing meta-path-based recommendation methods face at least one of the following issues: 1) existing methods merely adopt simple meta-path fusion rules, which might be insufficient to exclude inconsistent information of different meta-paths that may hurt model performance;2) the representative power is limited by shallow/stage-wise formulations. To solve these issues, we propose an end-to-end and unified embedding-based recommendation framework with graph-based learning. To address 1), we propose a flexible fusion module to integrate meta-path-based similarities into relative similarities between users and items. To address 2), we take advantage of the powerful representative ability of deep neural networks to learn more complicated and flexible latent embeddings. Finally, empirical studies on real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. © 2021 ACM.

Modeling Temporal Dependencies within the Target for Long-Term Time Series Forecasting

Long-term time series forecasting (LTSF) is a critical task across diverse domains. Despite significant advancements in LTSF research, we identify a performance bottleneck in existing LTSF methods caused by the inadequate modeling of Temporal Dependencies within the Target (TDT). To address this issue, we propose a novel and generic temporal modeling framework, Temporal Dependency Alignment (TDAlign), that equips existing LTSF methods with TDT learning capabilities. TDAlign introduces two key innovations: 1) a loss function that aligns the change values between adjacent time steps in the predictions with those in the target, ensuring consistency with variation patterns, and 2) an adaptive loss balancing strategy that seamlessly integrates the new loss function with existing LTSF methods without introducing additional learnable parameters. As a plug-and-play framework, TDAlign enhances existing methods with minimal computational overhead, featuring only linear time complexity and constant space complexity relative to the prediction length. Extensive experiments on six strong LTSF baselines across seven real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of TDAlign. On average, TDAlign reduces baseline prediction errors by 1.47% to 9.19% and change value errors by 4.57% to 15.78%, highlighting its substantial performance improvements. Multimodal fake news is more deceptive than unimodal content and often has adverse social and economic impacts. However, most existing methods learn modal features from a single perspective, without considering simultaneously learning and sharing knowledge across modalities from different perspectives. Our work presents a novel Multi-View Mutual Learning (MVML) network for multimodal fake news detection, which explores the semantic relationship between words and scenes, as well as words and objects, and investigates the semantic connection that exists between global concepts and local objects from multiple perspectives. We first construct text-scenes and text-objects graphs respectively, and perform intra-graph inference to obtain multi-view features. Then, the multi-view fusion layer based on the cross-view attention mechanism interactively models the cross-view dependencies between the image and text. The extracted features before feeding into the final classifier are further processed via a feed-forward attention module, which adaptively reweights and aggregates the features for redundancy reduction. In addition, to exploit the respective advantages of two multi-view classifiers, we propose a mutual learning mechanism that allows them to perform knowledge distillation and align the learning targets. The proposed MVML is thoroughly assessed on four publicly available benchmark datasets, and the findings demonstrate that it outperforms the existing standard approaches. © 2023, The Authors. 3D anomaly detection has recently become a significant focus in computer vision. Several advanced methods have achieved satisfying anomaly detection performance. However, they typically concentrate on the external structure of 3D samples and struggle to leverage the internal information embedded within samples. Inspired by the basic intuition of why not look inside for more, we introduce a straightforward method named Internal Spatial Modality Perception (ISMP) to explore the feature representation from internal views fully. Specifically, our proposed ISMP consists of a critical perception module, Spatial Insight Engine (SIE), which abstracts complex internal information of point clouds into essential global features. Besides, to better align structural information with point data, we propose an enhanced key point feature extraction module for amplifying spatial structure feature representation. Simultaneously, a novel feature filtering module is incorporated to reduce noise and redundant features for further aligning precise spatial structure. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving object-level and pixel-level AUROC improvements of 4.2% and 13.1%, respectively, on the Real3D-AD benchmarks. Note that the strong generalization ability of SIE has been theoretically proven and is verified in both classification and segmentation tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications is an enabling technology to transmit control signaling or payload data for UAVs through cellular networks. Due to the line-of-sight dominant air-to-ground channels, efficient interference mitigation is crucial to UAV communications, while the conventional fixed-position antenna (FPA) arrays have limited degrees of freedom to suppress the interference between the UAV and its non-associated co-channel base stations (BSs). To address this challenge, we propose in this letter a new approach by utilizing the six-dimensional movable antenna (6DMA) arrays to enhance the interference mitigation for the UAV. Specifically, we propose an efficient block coordinate descent algorithm to iteratively optimize the antenna position vector, array rotation vector, receive beamforming vector, and associated BS of the UAV to maximize its signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. Numerical results show that the proposed 6DMA enhanced cellular-connected UAV communication can significantly outperform that with the traditional FPA arrays and other benchmark schemes in terms of interference mitigation. © 2025 IEEE. Users worldwide widely use cloud storage because of its efficiency, convenience, and high availability. Multi-cloud storage is usually selected to ensure the high availability of data. Unfortunately, when data is migrated and replicated between multi-cloud data centers, it is not easy to guarantee data con-sistency. This paper proposes an efficient, secure, and new data consistency verification scheme using blockchain technology. In order to reduce the computation and communication overhead in the verification process, our scheme uses encrypted tags to build Merkle hash tree to generate unique and lightweight verification proofs and does not use third-party auditors. The final theoretical and experimental analysis shows that our scheme has higher security and a faster verification process in multi-cloud storage.
