The relationship between liver metabolic enzymes and the risk of dementia, as well as whether genetic factors can explain these potential associations, remains unclear. Based on data from 347,605 dementia-free British adults in the UK Biobank, we categorized participants into normal and abnormal liver metabolic enzymes groups according to serum liver metabolic enzyme levels and assessed the longitudinal risk of incident dementia and changes in brain structure across these groups. Subsequently, we employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the influence of genetic factors and further investigated the potential role of confounding factors such as lifestyle. The results showed that abnormal liver metabolic enzymes were associated with a higher risk of dementia. However, MR analysis did not reveal a statistically significant association between liver metabolic enzymes and dementia, indicating that genetic factors may not primarily drive the association. Additionally, abnormal liver metabolic enzymes were associated with reduced gray matter (GM) volume, indicating that changes in GM volume may be a potential mechanism through which abnormal liver metabolic enzymes influences dementia risk. In summary, this study indicates that individuals with abnormal liver metabolic enzymes have a higher risk of dementia, and genetic susceptibility does not explain the observed higher risk of dementia among participants with abnormal liver metabolic enzymes.

The rapid advancement of photorealistic generators has reached a critical juncture where the discrepancy between authentic and manipulated images is increasingly indistinguishable. Thus, benchmarking and advancing techniques detecting digital manipulation become an urgent issue. Although there have been a number of publicly available face forgery datasets, the forgery faces are mostly generated using GAN-based synthesis technology, which does not involve the most recent technologies like diffusion. The diversity and quality of images generated by diffusion models have been significantly improved and thus a much more challenging face forgery dataset shall be used to evaluate SOTA forgery detection literature. In this paper, we propose a large-scale, diverse, and fine-grained high-fidelity dataset, namely GenFace, to facilitate the advancement of deepfake detection, which contains a large number of forgery faces generated by advanced generators such as the diffusion-based model and more detailed labels about the manipulation approaches and adopted generators. In addition to evaluating SOTA approaches on our benchmark, we design an innovative Cross Appearance-Edge Learning (CAEL) detector to capture multi-grained appearance and edge global representations, and detect discriminative and general forgery traces. Moreover, we devise an Appearance-Edge Cross-Attention (AECA) module to explore the various integrations across two domains. Extensive experiment results and visualizations show that our detection model outperforms the state of the arts on different settings like cross-generator, cross-forgery, and cross-dataset evaluations. Generalized Face Forgery Detection via Adaptive Learning for Pre-trained Vision Transformer

With the rapid progress of generative models, the current challenge in face forgery detection is how to effectively detect realistic manipulated faces from different unseen domains. Though previous studies show that pre-trained Vision Transformer (ViT) based models can achieve some promising results after fully fine-tuning on the Deepfake dataset, their generalization performances are still unsatisfactory. One possible reason is that fully fine-tuned ViT-based models may disrupt the pre-trained features [1], [2] and overfit to some data-specific patterns [3]. To alleviate this issue, we present a Forgery-aware Adaptive Vision Transformer (FA-ViT) under the adaptive learning paradigm, where the parameters in the pre-trained ViT are kept fixed while the designed adaptive modules are optimized to capture forgery features. Specifically, a global adaptive module is designed to model long-range interactions among input tokens, which takes advantage of self-attention mechanism to mine global forgery clues. To further explore essential local forgery clues, a local adaptive module is proposed to expose local inconsistencies by enhancing the local contextual association. In addition, we introduce a fine-grained adaptive learning module that emphasizes the common compact representation of genuine faces through relationship learning in fine-grained pairs, driving these proposed adaptive modules to be aware of fine-grained forgery-aware information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our FA-ViT achieves state-of-the-arts results in the cross-dataset evaluation, and enhances the robustness against unseen perturbations. Particularly, FA-ViT achieves 93.83% and 78.32% AUC scores on Celeb-DF and DFDC datasets in the cross-dataset evaluation. The visual quality of an image is confounded by a number of intertwined factors including its semantic content, distortion characteristics and appearance properties such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, and colourfulness. Distilling high level knowledge about all these quality bearing attributes is crucial for developing objective Image Quality Assessment (IQA). While existing solutions have modeled some of these aspects, a comprehensive solution that involves all these important quality related attributes has not yet been developed. In this paper, we present a new blind IQA (BIQA) model termed Self-supervision and Vision-Language supervision Image QUality Evaluator (SLIQUE) that features a joint vision-language and visual contrastive representation learning framework for acquiring high level knowledge about the images semantic contents, distortion characteristics and appearance properties for IQA. For training SLIQUE, we have developed a systematic approach to constructing a first of its kind large image database annotated with all three categories of quality relevant texts. The Text Annotated Distortion, Appearance and Content (TADAC1) database has over 1.6 million images annotated with textual descriptions of their semantic contents, distortion characteristics and appearance properties. The method for constructing TADAC and the database itself will be particularly useful for exploiting vision-language modeling for advanced IQA applications. Extensive experimental results show that SLIQUE has superior performances over state of the art, demonstrating the soundness of its design principle and the effectiveness of its implementation. Robust optimization for quantum reinforcement learning control using partial observations

The current quantum reinforcement learning control models often assume that the quantum states are known a priori for control optimization. However, full observation of the quantum state is experimentally infeasible due to the exponential scaling of the number of required quantum measurements on the number of qubits. In this paper, we investigate a robust reinforcement learning method using partial observations to overcome this difficulty. This control scheme is compatible with near-term quantum devices, where the noise is prevalent and predetermining the dynamics of the quantum state is practically impossible. We show that this simplified control scheme can achieve similar or even better performance when compared to the conventional methods relying on full observation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme on examples of quantum state control and the quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA). It has been shown that high-fidelity state control can be achieved even if the noise amplitude is at the same level as the control amplitude. Besides, an acceptable level of optimization accuracy can be achieved for a QAOA with a noisy control Hamiltonian. This robust control optimization model can be trained to compensate for the uncertainties in practical quantum computing.

A study on orderings based on fuzzy quasi-order relations

This paper further studies orderings based on fuzzy quasi-order relations using fuzzy graph. Firstly, a fuzzy relation on a finite set is represented equivalently by a fuzzy graph. Using the graph, some new results on fuzzy relations are derived. In ranking those alternatives, we usually obtain a quasi-order relation, which often has inconsistencies, so it cannot be used for orderings directly. We need to remake it into a reasonable partial order relation for orderings. This paper studies these inconsistencies, and divides them into two types: framework inconsistencies and degree inconsistencies. For the former, a reasonable and feasible method is presented to eliminate them. To eliminate the latter, the concept of complete partial order relation is presented, which is more suitable than partial order relation to rank the alternatives. A method to obtain a reasonable complete partial order relation for a quasi-order relation is given also. An example is given as well to illustrate these discussions. Domain generalization for document authentication against practical recapturing attacks

Recapturing attack can be employed as a simple but effective anti-forensic tool for digital document images. Inspired by the document inspection process that compares a questioned document against a reference sample, we proposed a document recapture detection scheme by employing Siamese network to compare and extract distinct features in a recapture document image. The proposed algorithm takes advantages of both metric learning and image forensic techniques. Instead of adopting Euclidean distance-based loss function, we integrate the forensic similarity function with a triplet loss and a normalized softmax loss. After training with the proposed triplet selection strategy, the resulting feature embedding clusters the genuine samples near the reference while pushes the recaptured samples apart. In the experiment, we consider practical domain generalization problems, such as the variations in printing/imaging devices, substrates, recapturing channels, and document types. To evaluate the robustness of different approaches, we benchmark some popular off-the-shelf machine learning-based approaches, a state-of-the-art document image detection scheme, and the proposed schemes with different network backbones under various experimental protocols. Experimental results show that the proposed schemes with different network backbones have consistently outperformed the state-of-the-art approaches under different experimental settings. Specifically, under the most challenging scenario in our experiment, i.e., evaluation across different types of documents that produced by different devices, we have achieved less than 5.00% APCER (Attack Presentation Classification Error Rate) and 5.56% BPCER (Bona Fide Presentation Classification Error Rate) by the proposed network with ResNeXt101 backbone at 5% BPCER decision *** Codes 94A08 Copyright © 2021, The Authors. With the development of blockchain technology, the cryptocurrency based on blockchain technology is becoming more and more popular. This gave birth to a huge cryptocurrency transaction network has received widespread attention. Link prediction learning structure of network is helpful to understand the mechanism of network, so it is also widely studied in cryptocurrency network. However, the dynamics of cryptocurrency transaction networks have been neglected in the past researches. We use graph regularized method to link past transaction records with future transactions. Based on this, we propose a single latent factor-dependent, non-negative, multiplicative and graph regularized-incorporated update (SLF-NMGRU) algorithm and further propose graph regularized nonnegative latent factor analysis (GrNLFA) model. Finally, experiments on a real cryptocurrency transaction network show that the proposed method improves both the accuracy and the computational efficiency. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a Diversity Control Regularization Scheme (DCRS) to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML.

Deep learning-based forgery attack on document images

With the ongoing popularization of online services, the digital document images have been used in various applications. Meanwhile, there have emerged some deep learning-based text editing algorithms which alter the textual information of an image in an end-to-end fashion. In this work, we present a low-cost document forgery algorithm by the existing deep learning-based technologies to edit practical document images. To achieve this goal, the limitations of existing text editing algorithms towards complicated characters and complex background are addressed by a set of network design strategies. First, the unnecessary confusion in the supervision data is avoided by disentangling the textual and background information in the source images. Second, to capture the structure of some complicated components, the text skeleton is provided as auxiliary information and the continuity in texture is considered explicitly in the loss function. Third, the forgery traces induced by the text editing operation are mitigated by some post-processing operations which consider the distortions from the print-and-scan channel. Quantitative comparisons of the proposed method and the exiting approach have shown the advantages of our design by reducing the about 2/3 reconstruction error measured in MSE, improving reconstruction quality measured in PSNR and in SSIM by 4 dB and 0.21, respectively. Qualitative experiments have confirmed that the reconstruction results of the proposed method are visually better than the existing approach in both complicated characters and complex texture. More importantly, we have demonstrated the performance of the proposed document forgery algorithm under a practical scenario where an attacker is able to alter the textual information in an identity document using only one sample in the target domain.
