Plot-based Graphic API recommendation (Plot2API) is an unstudied but meaningful issue, which has several important applications in the context of software engineering and data visualization, such as the plotting guidance of the beginner, graphic API correlation analysis, and code conversion for plotting. Plot2API is a very challenging task, since each plot is often associated with multiple APIs and the appearances of the graphics drawn by the same API can be extremely varied due to the different settings of the parameters. Additionally, the samples of different APIs also suffer from extremely *** the lack of technologies in Plot2API, we present a novel deep multi-task learning approach named Semantic Parsing Guided Neural Network (SPGNN) which translates the Plot2API issue as a multi-label image classification and an image semantic parsing tasks for the solution. In SPGNN, the recently advanced Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) named EfficientNet is employed as the backbone network for API recommendation. Meanwhile, a semantic parsing module is complemented to exploit the semantic relevant visual information in feature learning and eliminate the appearance-relevant visual information which may confuse the visual-information-based API recommendation. Moreover, the recent data augmentation technique named random erasing is also applied for alleviating the imbalance of API *** collect plots with the graphic APIs used to drawn them from Stack Overflow, and release three new Plot2API datasets corresponding to the graphic APIs of R and Python programming languages for evaluating the effectiveness of Plot2API techniques. Extensive experimental results not only demonstrate the superiority of our method over the recent deep learning baselines but also show the practicability of our method in the recommendation of graphic APIs.

A latent factor analysis (LFA) model can efficiently address a high-dimensional and sparse (HiDS) matrix with a stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm. However, an SGD-based LFA model's performance depends heavily on its hyper-parameters. The popular method is based on grid-search, which fails because of expensive computation and time-consuming. Aiming at implementing a hyper-parameter-free LFA model, this study proposes an adaptive moment estimation-incorporated particle swarm optimization (Adam-PSO) algorithm that efficiently addresses the premature issues in a PSO algorithm. With achieved the hyper-parameter adaptation in an SGD-based LFA model, an Adam-PSO-based LFA (APL) model possessing hyper-parameter-free training is further implemented. Empirical studies on four HiDS matrices indicate that compared with state-of-the-art models with hyper-parameter adaptation settings, an APL model achieves the most efficient hyper-parameter-free training and highly competitive prediction accuracy for missing data of an HiDS matrix. Hence, it fits the need of real applications with high scalability and efficiency.

Contrastive Learning for Robust Android Malware Familial Classification

Due to its open-source nature, Android operating system has been the main target of attackers to exploit. Malware creators always perform different code obfuscations on their apps to hide malicious activities. Features extracted from these obfuscated samples through program analysis contain many useless and disguised features, which leads to many false negatives. To address the issue, in this paper, we demonstrate that obfuscation-resilient malware family analysis can be achieved through contrastive learning. The key insight behind our analysis is that contrastive learning can be used to reduce the difference introduced by obfuscation while amplifying the difference between malware and other types of malware. Based on the proposed analysis, we design a system that can achieve robust and interpretable classification of Android malware. To achieve robust classification, we perform contrastive learning on malware samples to learn an encoder that can automatically extract robust features from malware samples. To achieve interpretable classification, we transform the function call graph of a sample into an image by centrality analysis. Then the corresponding heatmaps can be obtained by visualization techniques. These heatmaps can help users understand why the malware is classified as this family. We implement IFDroid and perform extensive evaluations on two datasets. Experimental results show that IFDroid is superior to state-of-the-art Android malware familial classification systems. Moreover, IFDroid is capable of maintaining a 98.4% F1 on classifying 69,421 obfuscated malware samples. © 2021, CC0.

Universal deep network for steganalysis of color image based on channel representation

Up to now, most existing steganalytic methods are designed for grayscale images, and they are not suitable for color images that are widely used in current social networks. In this paper, we design a universal color image steganalysis network (called UCNet) in spatial and JPEG domains. The proposed method includes preprocessing, convolutional, and classification modules. To preserve the steganographic artifacts in each color channel, in preprocessing module, we firstly separate the input image into three channels according to the corresponding embedding spaces (i.e. RGB for spatial steganography and YCbCr for JPEG steganography), and then extract the image residuals with 62 fixed high-pass filters, finally concatenate all truncated residuals for subsequent analysis rather than adding them together with normal convolution like existing CNN-based steganalyzers. To accelerate the network convergence and effectively reduce the number of parameters, in convolutional module, we carefully design three types of layers with different shortcut connections and group convolution structures to further learn high-level steganalytic features. In classification module, we employ a global average pooling and fully connected layer for classification. We conduct extensive experiments on ALASKA II to demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve state-of-the-art results compared with the modern CNN-based steganalyzers (e.g., SRNet and J-YeNet) in both spatial and JPEG domains, while keeping relatively few memory requirements and training time. Using data from the Gaia data Release 3 (Gaia DR3) and Kepler/K2, we present a catalog of 16 open clusters with ages ranging from 4 to 4000 Myr, which provides detailed information on membership, binary systems, and rotation. We assess the memberships in 5D phase space, and estimate the basic parameters of each cluster. Among the 20,160 members, there are 4,381 stars identified as binary candidates and 49 stars as blue straggler stars. The fraction of binaries vary in each cluster, and the range between 9% to 44%. We obtain the rotation periods of 5,467 members, of which 4,304 are determined in this work. To establish a benchmark for the rotation-age-color relation, we construct color-period diagrams. We find that the rotational features of binaries are similar to that of single stars, while features for binaries are more scattered in the rotation period. Moreover, the morphology of the color-period relationship is already established for Upper Scorpius at the age of 19 Myr, and some stars of varying spectral types (i.e. FG-, K-, and M-type) show different spin-down rates after the age of ∼ 110 Myr. By incorporating the effects of stalled spin-down into our analysis, we develop an empirical rotation-age-color relation, which is valid with ages between 700 - 4000 Myr and colors corresponding to a range of 0.5 BP − GRP)0 Copyright © 2023, The Authors. With the increase in the self-paced learning phenomenon, class imbalance in the learning analytics community has become more prevalent, with lesser students dropping out than students who intend to pursue. Similarly, an imbalance in the behavioral performances of students is also observed. This imbalance problem becomes more complicated for temporal data, where each time sequence represents a particular student, and several sequences formulate the overall engagement of students throughout a course. The conventional methods for generating synthetic data do not account for this association of sequences, where each synthetically generated student is associated with its previous sequence. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have been rapidly adopted in the machine learning discipline for synthetic data generation to reduce the class imbalance. In this study, we propose a deep learning-powered methodology called Educational Temporal Generative Adversarial Networks (Ed-TGANs) methodology comprising the following steps: a) Smart data Processing for Actionable data, b) GANs for Temporal data Generation, and c) Learning Approach. Furthermore, the Open University Learning Analytics dataset was deployed as a case study comprising 69% pass and 31% fail students to validate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology, encompassing discrete and continuous features. The results are compared with GAN-based and non-GAN upsampling approaches to demonstrate the proposed methodology's effectiveness, which shows an increase in accuracy of up to 5.33% compared to classic GANs, resulting in improved understating of student behavior. We believe that the presented methodology can be used as a starting point for various areas for upsampling jobs with temporal longitudinal data. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We developed and validated a deep learning system (termed DeepDR Plus) in a diverse, multiethnic, multi-country dataset to predict personalized risk and time to progression of diabetic retinopathy. We show that DeepDR Plus can be integrated into the clinical workflow to promote individualized intervention strategies for the management of diabetic retinopathy.

As increasingly traditional applications migrate to the cloud, load balancing without sacrificing the performances of cloud-based applications is a highly challenging problem in cloud computing. Existing solutions focusing on online task scheduling have the inefficient issue, due to the highly dynamic nature of cloud workloads and the virtual machines (VMs) with heterogeneous hardware configurations. To address this issue, dependent on the strong perception and decision-making ability of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) in automatic control problems, we propose a deep reinforcement learning based task scheduling method, which can dynamic assign submitted tasks to different VMs. In details, we formulate the task scheduling as a dynamical optimal problem with constraints, and then adopt the deep deterministic policy gradients (DDPG) network to find the optimal task assignment solution with meeting the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) requirements. It makes the optimal scheduling decision only dependent on learning directly from its experience without any prior knowledge. The experimental results using the actual Alibaba cloud workload tracings show that compared with other existing solutions, our proposed task scheduling method can effectively reduce the average response time of tasks with guaranteeing the load balancing among VMs, when facing of dynamical workloads. © 2019 IEEE.

Remote sensing of cyanobacterial blooms in inland waters: present knowledge and future challenges

Timely monitoring, detection and quantification of cyanobacterial blooms are especially important for controlling public health risks and understanding aquatic ecosystem dynamics. Due to the advantages of simultaneous data acquisition over large geographical areas and high temporal coverage, remote sensing strongly facilitates cyanobacterial bloom monitoring in inland waters. We provide a comprehensive review regarding cyanobacterial bloom remote sensing in inland waters including cyanobacterial optical characteristics, operational remote sensing algorithms of chlorophyll, phycocyanin and cyanobacterial bloom areas, and satellite imaging applications. We conclude that there have many significant progresses in the remote sensing algorithm of cyanobacterial pigments over the past 30 years. The band ratio algorithms in the red and near-infrared(NIR) spectral regions have great potential for the remote estimation of chlorophyll a in eutrophic and hypereutrophic inland waters, and the floating algae index(FAI) is the most widely used spectral index for detecting dense cyanobacterial blooms. Landsat, MODIS(Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) and MERIS(MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) are the most widely used products for monitoring the spatial and temporal dynamics of cyanobacteria in inland waters due to the appropriate temporal, spatial and spectral resolutions. Future work should primarily focus on the development of universal algorithms, remote retrievals of cyanobacterial blooms in oligotrophic waters, and the algorithm applicability to mapping phycocyanin at a large spatial-temporal scale. The applications of satellite images will greatly improve our understanding of the driving mechanism of cyanobacterial blooms by combining numerical and ecosystem dynamics models.
