Biophysical impact of forest age changes on land surface temperature in China

Forest age structures have been substantially affected by natural disturbances and anthropogenic activities worldwide. Their changes can significantly influence local and nonlocal climate through both the biogeochemical and biophysical processes. However, numerous studies have focused on the biogeochemical effect of forest age changes whereas the biophysical effect has received far less attention. Here we investigated how forest age changes influence land surface temperature (LST) by comparing older forests and adjacent younger forests pixels and unraveled underlying biophysical mechanisms using satellite observations over China during 2003–2012. Our study showed that older forests had a substantial annual cooling benefit than adjacent medium-aged and young forests. Attribution analysis indicated that the cooling effect of latent heat flux counteracted the albedo-induced warming effect, leading to the net cooling effect of older evergreen needle-leaved forest or evergreen broadleaved forest. Furthermore, the cooling effect of sensible heat flux is greater than the albedo-driven warming effect, contributing to the net cooling effect of older deciduous broadleaved forest. Our work is a step forward to underscore the potential of preserving mature forests as a local climate adaptation strategy and provides important parameterization foundation for earth system models without incorporation of forest age modules. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This research explored the degree of learning self-efficacy of machine learning experience (MLSE) and artificial intelligence learning anxiety (AILA) of elementary and junior high school teachers. The participants were in-service teachers in the technology domain. This research applied the AI2 Robot City, which is a computational thinking board game, to in-service teacher education. The learning content was image classification for AI application. Elementary and junior high school teachers operated the MIT App Inventor(MAI) and Personal Image Classifier(PIC) platform, and trained the model for practicing AI to implement supervised machine learning on the PIC platform. The learners then inserted the model they had trained into the block-based programming environment of MAI. They completed the smart phone app and used the app to recognize the board game cards so as to control the movement of the smart cars on the table map to meet the requirements of the task in the AI2 Robot City board game. In order to understand affective factors such as the self-efficacy and learning anxiety of the elementary and middle school teachers participating in the AI teacher training workshop, the MLSE and AILA scales were administered before and after the classes. A total of 28 samples were collected. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the MLSE of the elementary and junior high school teachers. However, the average AILA degree of the junior high school teachers was significantly higher than that of the elementary school teachers. It was found that AILA was significantly negatively correlated with MLSE. The elementary and junior high school teachers were confident that they could study AI-related courses. However, the AILA of the junior high school teachers was higher than that of the elementary school teachers. The purposes of the study were to examine the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviors,organizational commitments and organizational learning *** distributed 200 questionnaires to 12 companies;the final response rate was 52.5% (105/200).The study used SEM to test three hypotheses about organizational citizenship behaviors,organizational commitments and organizational learning *** results of the research were that organizational citizenship behaviors and organizational commitments could influence organizational learning effects positively,and organizational citizenship behaviors can be influenced positively by organizational commitments.

The main aim of this paper is to realize that if the people are engaged in different occupations,and they have different views for employee promotion and organizational citizenship behavior （OCB） or *** the authors want to scrutinize the correlation between employee promotion and ***,authors investigate 95 *** adopt cluster analysis to realize the clusters of subjects,and employ Pearson Product-Moment correlation coefficient to examine the correlation between employee promotion and *** cluster analysis,there are three clusters in this *** these clusters generate according to two dimensions,which are job satisfaction and ***,the clusters are middle job satisfaction and high loyalty （cluster 1）,low job satisfaction and middle loyalty （cluster 2）,and high job satisfaction and low loyalty （cluster 3）.The results show that the opinions of cluster 1 differs from cluster 2 for promotion and OCB,the opinions of cluster 2 differs from cluster 3 for promotion,The opinions of cluster 1 differs from cluster 3 for OCB,and there is no significant correlation between emplyee promotion and OCB.

Single Oil Palm Tree Detection and Its Potential Expansion in Honduras

Honduras is among the ten largest palm oil producers in the world. Accurately detecting the current plantation status and oil palm distribution is crucial to optimize the planting layout. However, current information on single oil palm trees in Honduras is scarce. Here, we used submeter-resolution RGB satellite images in 2022 to detect the spatial distribution and single oil palm tree in Honduras with the four-direction gradient difference (FGD), single-tree feature extraction, and double-ring detection methods. In the accuracy validation zones, the recall, precision, and F1-score metrics for the spatial distribution of oil palm were 86.50%, 86.57%, and 86.53%, respectively;counting accuracy for single oil palm trees was 86.75%;and localization accuracy was approximately 6 m. We estimated 0.25 million hectares (ha) of oil palm plantation area in Honduras, corresponding to 28.27 million trees and an average density of 113 trees/ha. Furthermore, we categorized planted land into highly or moderately suitable zones for future expansion. Among the 0.25 million ha of potentially available land, the highly and moderately suitable zones represented 10 501 and 242 120 ha, respectively, with the potential to carry approximately 28.55 million oil palms. For future oil palm expansion, priority should be given to highly suitable zones. This study not only characterized the distribution and single oil palm properties in Honduras but also suggested potentially suitable zones for future plantation expansion, thereby providing important methodological references and data support to assess the impact of oil palm planting on the ecological environment and socioeconomic aspects at the country scale. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

A mobile-assisted game to assist young learners in developing the knowledge of the structures of Chinese characters was developed. In playing the "Chinese-PP" game in a 1:1 (one-device-per-student) setting, each of the 31 target students in Primary 3 (9-year-old) was assigned a Chinese character component in her smartphone. A student may use her own and peers’ character components to form a legitimate Chinese character, and invite the peers with matching components to join her group. We analyze relationships between the students with varied learning styles and their game behaviors and learning gains and conclude that all the students achieved high learning gains regardless of their learning and game playing profiles. © ISLS

Young students’ engagement in computer programming has been recognized as a crucial issue in educational settings nowadays. In this study, a block-based programming approach was employed to investigate its impacts on the learning anxiety, playfulness, and enjoyment of young students with different academic levels. A total of 175 10th graders participated in the study. The participants were asked to use block-based programming to control a robot. The experimental results show that the block-based programming, which engages students in programming tasks using a building block-like visual interface, significantly reduced the students’ learning anxiety while also promoting their playfulness and enjoyment in the perspectives of computational thinking. It was also found that the block-based programming benefited the low- and medium-achievement more than the high-achievement students did. Therefore, it was inferred that block-based programming would be useful for those people who have worse learning performance in conventional programming learning so they need further remedial instruction. Moreover, male students had lower learning anxiety and higher playfulness than the female students. The findings could be a good reference for researchers and school teachers who intend to conduct programming activities for young children. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

The purpose of this study was to explore the self-evaluated effects of a web-based portfolio assessment system on various categories of students of motivation. The subjects for this study were the students of two computer classes in a Junior High School. The experimental group used the webbased portfolio assessment system whereas the control group used traditional assessment. The result reveals that the web-based portfolio assessment system was more effective or useful in the most of self-evaluated learning effects for low motivation students. © 2009, Baywood Publishing Co., Inc.

With the growth of digital learning, there has been an increase in research related to learning analytics. Learning analytics can be used to identify potential problems and improve the quality of education by measuring, collecting, analyzing, and reporting data about the learners and their background to understand the learner's learning situation and learning environment. In addition, further analysis of students' learning behaviors can be used to provide adaptive and personalized teaching suggestions. This study aimed to analyze operational data from the coding process on an online learning platform, as well as data obtained from students' self-regulated learning strategy scales and self-regulated learning motivation scales. The objective was to investigate the correlation of these factors with students' academic achievement and to determine whether these factors can be utilized to predict student learning outcomes. The results of the study revealed a significant correlation between programming behavior and student grades. Variances in self-regulated learning strategies and motivation levels exhibit notable differences in academic performance. When incorporating these performance-related values as features in the development of predictors, it proves effective in forecasting students' learning outcomes. However, due to the limited sample size in this study, the predictive model may experience reduced accuracy or overfitting issues when applied to larger datasets. Therefore, for future predictions with larger samples, considerations should be made to adjusting model hyperparameters or modifying the features used to improve the accuracy of the predictions. © 2024 CEUR-WS. The programming course poses a significant challenge for students who are just starting to learn a programming language. Many beginners, upon encountering an "ERROR" message from the system, tend to give up on learning. However, there are also students who persist in overcoming difficulties, exerting continued effort to complete their code, and achieving better learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to cluster students based on their behavior during debugging in a programming course. It sought to explore the impact and differences among students in terms of program success and course grades within different debugging frequency clusters. © 2024 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.
