Wind gust has the characteristics of sudden and brief increase in wind speed. Moreover, if the penetration of wind power is high, its inherent characteristics may impacts on power system stability. In order to analyze the impacts of wind gust and wind penetration on wind turbine generator further the system stability, three signals to stand for wind gust types are adopted in this paper, i.e. lope signal, 1-consine discrete signal and step signal. This paper analyzes quantitatively the uncertainties of wind generated power arising from wind speed using different wind models. Then, two-area four-machine system is modified in MATLAB, where the double-fed induction wind generators are used to simulate different wind power penetration. It is shown that different types of wind models and variations wind speed have different impacts on the generated wind power of wind farm. Moreover, it can be inferred when the penetration of wind power is high, the generated wind power outputs affect power system stability largely.

Strap-down inertial navigation systems are widely applicable in both military and civil industries. The outputs of gyroscope and accelerometer are polluted by noises. Different form the conventional technologies, the weighting filter presented in this work is superior to both the complementary filter and Kalman filter. Furthermore, to eliminate the negative effects brought by the variation of noise statistical characteristics, a fuzzy-logic based regulator is introduced to adjust the weight coefficient adaptively. Finally, experiments are conducted to validate the efficiency of the filter.

For constrained piecewise linear (PWL) systems, the possible existing model uncertainty will bring the difficulties to the design approaches of model predictive control (MPC) based on mixed integer programming (MIP). This paper combines the robust method and hybrid method to design the MPC for PWL systems with structured uncertainty. For the proposed approach, as the system model is known at current time, a free control move is optimized to be the current control input. Meanwhile, the MPC controller uses a sequence of feedback control laws as the future control actions, where each feedback control law in the sequence corresponds to each partitions and the arbitrary switching technique is adopted to tackle all the possible switching. Furthermore, to reduce the online computational burden of MPC, the segmented design procedure is suggested by utilizing the characteristics of the proposed approach. Then, an offline design algorithm is proposed, and the reserved degree of freedom can be online used to optimize the control input with lower computational burden.

The proposed advance model-free adaptive control algorithm is able to regain the control performance when some undesirable situations occur in linear motion system. A case study is employed in the development which involves the control of a linear motor setup using two control algorithms: a nominal control algorithm based on PID tuned for high performance, and the robust accommodating control based on advanced model free adaptive control (AMFAC). Compared with PID control, AMFAC is more robust to disturbances such as vibrations for fast time-varying systems. Simulation results based on the model of a real linear motion system setup are provided to show the effectiveness of the approach.

A new cable-driven soft endoscopic system is designed for cardiac ablation in a minimally invasive manner in this paper. The system is totally made of soft materials and has no rigid structures inside. In order to perform operation in the limited pericardium, a modified behavior-based control method inspired from animals is applied in this system. Experiments are performed to demonstrate the concept of prototype and manipulation approaches are feasible. As showed in these experimental results, the cable-driven soft endoscopic system has a strong potential in cardiac surgery.
